Forum:Request to block GoldMerch user
Hi, recently a user called GoldMerch signed up on this wiki. As most of us know, Goldmerch is a popular members' only merchanting clan in RuneScape that uses the concept of supply and demand to manipulate Grand Exchange prices of a certain item, and sell it when the price is high. However, as users like User:Karlis say, manipulation of the game's systems is against the rules of RuneScape.
Now, however, Goldmerch is taking their advertising to the next level: creating a userpage on the RuneScape Wiki with a link to their personal website and a catchy advertisement. This is in addition to their already illegal auto-talkers in the grand exchange on all popular worlds. If you read the user block policy, it says that inappropriate usernames include "Advertising in any form (aside from websites listed under "External Links"). I think the link to the goldmerch website AND their advertisement on the userpage itself can be called advertising. And inappropriate usernames can be permanently blocked.
Click here to see Goldmerch's userpage. Recently, another user, Merch Clan Scams, edited goldmerch's page by doing this. Though Powers38 undid it soon afterward, what Merch Clan Scams did made sense.
I hope you all understand my reasons to request Goldmerch to be banned. Please cast your votes. Thank you.

Support - Per the reasons said above.05:43, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Very Strongly Support - 1) Per reasons said above. 2) He's not here to help us with our Wiki. He only wants to advertise his stupid merching clan. 3)I don't even trust that clan! I tried it once, he dumped alot earlier, and I almost lost 200k, luckily someone traded me and bought the item. Ban him. He's breaking the rule of Item Scamming. I have no idea why Jagex let him back to scam more people, but I'm not even taking the chance of letting him take in some people from our wiki. Hell, why just our wiki-ers!? He shouldn't be advertising or scamming at all! Ban him! --06:28, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Comment - Just to let you know, Karlis undid it. I gave the guy a heads up on editing userpages. Also, banning wouldn't solve anything. The person just isn't allowed edit. We would also need to delete his userpage so people won't see it.=)-- Powers38 おはようヾ(´･ω･｀) 06:40, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Strong Support - Allowing this kind of advertising to stay is seriously going to harm the changes of this wiki becoming affiliated with Jagex as a safe fansite. -- Mercifull (Talk) 08:48, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Blocked I don't even think that discussion or consensus is needed - the user block policy is very clear, and this user qualifies as a vandal/advertiser. As such, I have permanently blocked this user and deleted the user page in question (though I have left the talk page). If anyone would like to make a serious case against this course of action, feel free to state it here. :-) Leevclarke talk 11:20, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
How about if we don't delete his user page but leave it with one of those "blocked for item scamming and breaking Jagex rules" signs. May serve as a warning to others. And it would remove some links that are now dead.--Degenret01 12:32, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Good point, the page should not be deleted, but should have Template:Banned on it. I have fixed this now. Leevclarke talk 18:03, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
You will get no objection from me for blocking him, good riddance I say.18:18, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
