I would like to have Evilbot, which uses AWB, to autosave to allow faster editing and allow me to finish tasks that may involve many pages in a much more timely manner. I have college and can't be on AWB as much as I wish to be as saving all pages one by one would take up an incredible amount of time for large tasks.

A few tasks that it will perform:

  • Image: to File:
  • Replacing file redirect links with target
  • Removing excess whitespace
  •   to normal space
  • URLs to wikilinks
  • STRIKE and S tag to DEL tag and other deprecated tags
  • Help RS:TODO tasks
  • Requested tasks

AWB will not allow bots to use the RegexTypoFix feature when autosaving so there is no need to worry about typos being corrected wrong.

It will run as much as possible and I would be the only person with access to it but anyone can suggest tasks. If something goes wrong any user can stop it by clicking the "Emergency Shutdown" link on its userpage which will leave a message on the bot's talk which completely stops its editing until I log onto the wiki as it and check the message. If for some reason that doesn't work (I see no reason why it shouldn't work), the "Sysops Only Emergency Shutdown!" link will block Evilbot from editing but only sysops can do that. Support - Exerienced user, proficient with AWB, tasks are tedious but need doing, emergency shutdown just incase. I see no reason not to allow it [Pharos] 09:25, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

"Energy shutdown"? "No team"? Are you on IPhone again? 222 talk 09:55, October 3, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, plz fix, in lecture, Ty - [Pharos] 10:37, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Evil can definitely be trusted to auto-save his AWB as he is a pretty experienced AWB user. Would benefit all of us, especially him. 222 talk 09:55, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Question - Autosaving sounds like a fully automated bot. Is this request just asking for Evilbot to be upgraded to a bot account (instead of just AWB)? --LiquidTalk 13:18, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

That sounds about right. In which case, can he support his own thing? Or would it be like an RfA? HaloTalk 17:17, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I trust you to do this. ʞooɔ 21:15, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Just do it - So long as you monitor all of the edits. The difference between AWB and a bot is that AWB provides an interface with which you can see the edits being made; if there is a problem, then it can be stopped. I see no need to be having this discussion. ajr 21:17, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Well... no, with autosave on I can't see the changes if I have the autosave set to 0 second delay (which I will have it on) and like I said, I can't be on it as much as I wish (at college, not at comp, sleeping). Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 21:24, October 3, 2010 (UTC)
That makes sense then. ajr 21:26, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - You can be trusted with AWB and have used it for long enough that you shouldn't stuff it up. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 05:07, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I'm not opposed to the action, I'm opposed to the principle. I don't like the idea of using autosaved AWB as a way to run automated edits on the wiki. This is essentially a request for a bot flag, except disguised under the veil of AWB. If Evil ran Evilbot for a full bot flag, I'd support. --LiquidTalk 22:15, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

That's what I was going for. A full bot but not as impressive as the others. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:40, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
So that's why I'm going to oppose this. If you want to make it a full bot, run for bot status. Otherwise, I'd prefer that this be kept as regular AWB. I don't want to make exceptions to the "AWB must be semiautomated" principle, lest things get out of hand. --LiquidTalk 23:55, October 4, 2010 (UTC)
Evil, why don't you just run for a full bot flag? It's better to run a few semi-auto tasks on a full bot, than to run a few fully automated tasks on a semi-auto AWB bot. 222 talk 00:08, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
That's what I want this thread to be >.<. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 00:19, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
Actually not, right now it appears you are running for the second option: "run a few fully automated tasks on a semi-auto AWB bot." 222 talk 00:26, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
Do I have to make a whole new thread? Frown Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 00:28, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
Check your talk. 222 talk 00:45, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

New Proposal

Have User:Evilbot become a full-fledged bot. Be given the full bot flag and taken out of the AWB user. It will still use AWB as the software. Everything else of the last proposal still applies; its tasks, access, ways of being able to stop it if need be, etc. Full Slayer Helmet!
