Per some some discussions ([1], [2]) we as a community generally don't really like these new "updates" to wikia (Special:MyHome, user masthead, Latest activity Widget). I propose that we officially gather consensus that we dislike them, so we can officially ask Wikia to officially remove these new updates from our wiki, if possible.

Discussion

Support - Per one of the discussions, I find myself the redirect to Special:MyHome rather pointless considering all the work put into the main page, and the uselssness of Special:MyHome. — Enigma 00:41, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I'm sure with enough JavaScript we could do this on our own >.< Andrew talk 01:05, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Star Wars Fanon redirects users from Special:MyHome to the home page. if( wgPageName == 'Special:MyHome' ) { window.location = wgServer + wgScriptPath + '/wiki/' + wgMainpage; }

Problem solved; support JS to do this st00f =D=D=D=D=D=D=D=D=D Andrew talk 01:14, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
Smaller version: if(wgPageName=="Special:MyHome") window.location=wgServer+"/wiki/"+wgMainpage 99.238.39.223 02:56, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Support - the use of JS Wink Much faster I'm sure, and we don't have to bother Wikia and wait for a reply. (Also, I rather like the new masthead and My Home page, however I do not like how runescape.wikia.com redirects to the My Home page. Is there any way to JS could be customisable to meet these needs? thanks Smile). Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 01:51, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

You can disable the redirect at runescape.wikia.com by going to Special:Preferences, click the Misc tab, and check "Disable my redirect to My Home" --Quarenon  Talk 01:53, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I forgot to mention I HATE the new activity stream over there < OMG!! Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 02:43, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
But why don't you like them? WHY? I like it a lot more, as it is showing up random pages I never knew about, much like Special:Random --

Alright, new proposal - 1. Keep the masthead, but add Catcrewser's scriptamajigger thing to MediaWiki:Common.js, and 2. use the other code from Forum:Wth? to remove the Latest activity widget.

Support 1 and 2 - Per myself. — Enigma 06:06, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

/* Hide some widgets. */ .community_details, .WidgetCommunity, .WidgetLanguages { display: none; }

This is the code. Thanks, Quarenon. — Enigma 06:08, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Can't the activity box be changed back to the old recent changes box? Or at least the link? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 16:34, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Change redirect - I think the most important change that needs to happen is to change the redirect from My Home back to the main page. We want new users (and regulars for that matter) to be seeing the main page first, not the (imo silly) my home page. Any other changes you agree on I'll go with, but this is by far the most important change to me. Cheers, Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 17:05, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Tollerach, as explained by Quarenon, we can already change this with no extra work by going to Special:Preferences, clicking the Misc tab, then making sure the last option is checked, which disables the redirect to My Home. Remember, it only redirects to My Home if you're logged into a Wiki account. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 20:20, November 5, 2009 (UTC)
Yes I know, I've already done that. I would much rather new users be directed to the Main Page by default rather than My Home. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 05:32, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Support 1 and 2 - Sounds good. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 20:20, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

You know, I do sorta like My Home actually, it's cool to see the most edited pages, and it's great as long as runescape.wikia.com redirects to the main page and not My Home. As said before, this can be fixed in Preferences. I love the new masthead, simply put, but I do absolutely hate the new activity feed, so, my decision would have to be Oppose 1, Support 2. I'm sure we'll come up with something for everybody, as we always do. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 21:36, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Or we could have My Home turned off wiki-wide, it is possible. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 21:09, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Support both - The new box is a bit misleading, I thought the more tab would bring me to the Recent Changes, but it took me to Myhome. After all of this work of redoing the main page, I think we should make it so we can redirect to there. ~MuzTalk 21:20, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Oppose 1, Support 2 - Why doesn't anyone like the new features? OMG! --

The old version looks more professional, easier to use (if you know what you're doing), much clearer and plus you have to count the fact we're used to it. — Enigma 23:30, November 5, 2009 (UTC)

Neutral on 1, Support 2 - Most of updates are quite annoying, and I'm simply too lazy to get used to it. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 02:11, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Support 1, Oppose 2 - I would rather see the Latest activity be changed back to the old Recent Changes box. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 18:05, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Discussion Closed - Discussion has pretty much ended for this thread, and those with opinions on this topic have been given ample opportunity to contribute to this discussion. I am interpreting the consensus on this thread to be in support of some sort of modification of the activity log, but with some mixed feelings about a complete elimination of the changes that have been introduced by Wikia. --Robert Horning 17:38, December 18, 2009 (UTC)
