As most of you know, we have a number of inter-language links available at the bottom of many of our pages. Many of these link to the Finnish RuneWiki, one of the largest(?) non-English wikis we link to. Unfortunately, a visit to RuneWiki shows that they have moved to Shoutwiki. If their community has moved on to a different site, I see no reason for us to continue linking our users to a site that may be out of date. Because of this, I would like to remove all links to from the RuneScape Wiki. --Aburnett(Talk) 16:19, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Tuki - Pohjalta kommenttini yllä.* --Aburnett(Talk) 16:19, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Yep. No reason to send people to a derelict site. Real Mad 16:36, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - The huge message will soon be removed, and another community may take over. As long as the articles remain the way there are without any ads to the external Finnish wiki, I see no reason to remove the intlang links. Mark (talk) 17:51, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

If the community has decided to move, it's certainly not in good taste for us to continue to advertise a site that they no longer wish to support. If this wiki ever moves, I would hope that anyone who linked to us would adjust their links accordingly instead of potentially directing traffic away from our new site. In addition, the articles staying the way they are is exactly the problem. Without a community that is working to maintain the articles, we are sending our users to a site that contains inaccurate information, vandalism, etc. If a new community forms sometime down the road, I absolutely agree that we should add the links back, but until then the links need to go away. --Aburnett(Talk) 17:58, February 2, 2011 (UTC)
Agreed. If they want to move, that is their community's choice, and I think that they'd want us to remove the interwiki links to the now-dead Wikia site. I see no reason to side with Wikia and their disgustingly for-profit attitude about these situations. Ajraddatz 19:21, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Supportish - Per Aburn. However, I fear the possibility that a new community will take over, resulting in us having to add all the links back OMG!. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 19:38, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

I'm sure Cook will be salivating over the opportunity to make all those edits if that happens Lol. In all seriousness though, this can all be done by bot which should make this quite easy. --Aburnett(Talk) 19:43, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

I am somewhat concerned that this will essentially undo the many hours of work that cook put into adding those links. And while I do consider the wikia finish runescape wiki to not be the "real" finish runescape wiki, I'm unsure of how I feel about removing the links to what is still a repository of the original community's work. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 20:16, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Bernie put it nicely. We always have the "rollback all" button if we feel like going that far... Or, I'm sure that someone with a degree of knowledge of AWB greater than my own can figure out some clever way to automate the removal tasks. --LiquidTalk 22:45, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

That button will not work if other people edit the page after the edit. In this case, the button is useless. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 23:12, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - Although the community left, all the information is still there and if it was good enough for us to have links before it will be good enough for now. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 22:54, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Support - A community is what makes a wiki great, without one it is dead. Linking to a dead wiki is a way for us to link to possible out of date content, which hurts our own image. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 23:16, February 2, 2011 (UTC)

Support - RuneScape changes fast, it will all be out of date very soon. I don't see no reason to waste people's time. bad_fetustalk 10:51, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

Question - Can't we hide the links with some code, and if they are active again, we remove it? There's no need to remove the links and then place them back again later. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 15:46, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

Then we'll just have to remove the code so it also seems kinda pointless to add code to just have to remove it later. :P svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 21:53, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
The code is a lot easier to add/remove, and as the site will get obsolete quite quickly, we don't want links to there now. If they get active again, we should put the links back. With this code it would be a lot easier to add them back. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 22:20, February 3, 2011 (UTC)
That makes no sense. How is having a bot add and then remove code that hides the links any easier than having a bot remove the links and add them back later? --Aburnett(Talk) 22:36, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - People seem concerned with the link being removed and then needing to be added back, so here's a simple answer: We have one bot do this task (my Evilbot can do it easily) then if this needs to be re-added, we just go to the contribution page of said bot, find the list of edits from this task and undo them. Not too complicated. How about that? Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:54, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

"and undo them" wouldn't that require us to manually undo the edits? JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 02:10, February 10, 2011 (UTC)
Nope. --Aburnett(Talk) 21:11, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I believe we have rough consensus to remove these links. I will begin coding User:BurnettBot to perform this task and begin over the weekend unless there is further discussion. --Aburnett(Talk) 21:11, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Is there a way we could make it so these links (or maybe with a different code) could link to the shoutwiki version? Furthermore, would Wikia allow that? ʞooɔ 21:37, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think so x2. If it is not possible to hide links to the finnish wiki, it is also not possible to modify them(hiding is also modifying). And no, I don't think Wikia would like that... JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 22:16, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I can't believe I didn't think of this:

/* Hide Finnish RuneScape Wiki interwiki links */
li.interwiki-fi, .WikiaArticleInterlang >ul >li > a[href^=""] {

Adding that to MediaWiki:Common.css will hide the links on both Monobook and Wikia skins. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:27, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

I can't believe I did think of it but forgot the quotes around the url Blush
I do think that's the best to do. A bot is just unneeded work for programming it and stuff... JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 22:55, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Request for closure - My idea works with little to no drawbacks, effort, or time and is easily reversible. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 23:18, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - We'll use Evil's idea. --LiquidTalk 23:25, February 11, 2011 (UTC)
