As seen from the topic title, I'm proposing that we remove the UnRuneScape Wiki from our sister sites. If you've seen the UnRuneScape Wiki, while they are certainly very "UnRuneScape-ish", there is a lot of distasteful content.

{{Language}} Examples:

  • If you experience an erection for more than 3 hours, take a photograph and send it to Paul Gower. - Taken from the Main Page
  • Mod Cheese is without a doubt the most friggin' homo slice of cheese that you will ever see - Taken from Mod Cheese
  • spies broke into the Jagex offices and found Mod Cheese, Mod Raven, Mod Hamburger, Mod Penguin and Mod Herring having a gay sex orgy in the basement. Jagex were sued £1,250,000 and extra costs for cleaning the semen and feces. - Taken from Mod Cheese
  • Zezima sucking his cheesy dick - Taken from Mod Cheese
  • Ability to suck your own genitalia. - Taken from Sex
  • Rimmington is basically just a rape town, with POH houses in which God knows what goes on and a weird old rapist who wants you to make some "serum". Jagex, quite obviously, were on horny goat weed upon programming this town into the game. - Taken from Rimmington

There's a lot more of such content on the UnRuneScape Wiki. They even have an article about she-males. It's perfectly fine if they create content, like Banana, which is just filled with false info. But they seem to be going to the extreme. Thus, I propose that we no longer link to them and affiliate with them.

Support - It really is a wiki for vandals. Its like this wiki gone bad, as though its been run over by vandals. That is not what a wiki is, and I personally think it should never have been created. By Whiplash as well! Joe Click Here for Awesomeness06:47, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Strong Support - Never liked it in the first place. Thought it was incredibly offensive and I don't think I ever even smirked at any of the "jokes" there. A poor excuse for a wiki. Waste of bandwidth. --Gold ore.png Mercifull UK serv.svg (Talk) 08:07, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Support - As the author of banana (there was at least one true fact in there, try and find it) and several other of what are probably the more decent articles on there, I agree. I tried to write good stuff (I even made the logo) but it's time to let it burn. Sorry guys! Kwertallent 10:49, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Support - In addition, there is absolutely no warning from the main page that the link contains offensive material. This website attracts a potentially large number of young visitors. That's a big no-no. --Quarenon 11:17, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Support - It does have harsh information on it. Some articles (like you mentioned, banana) are well written to be funny. Harsh language is not funny, it gets old on there after one article. ~MuzTalk 12:46, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Strong Support - Frankly, I don't really know why we even partnered with them in the first place; when I first saw it a year ago, it was nothing but a big spam/offensive behavior fest, and it hasn't gotten any better. Weakish support Contrary to some people above, I like the idea of an UnRuneScape wiki, as it allows contributors to get creative writing subtle humour using elements from RuneScape as a jumping-off point. For example, see this quote from the banana article: "For some reason, the peeps at Jagex Mountain decided you had to use a banana to teleport to Ape Atoll. What this has to do with magic is anyone's guess, but it is more likely to be based on the stereotypical assumption that monkeys like bananas. This use of stereotyping may be why if you use a bottle of alcohol instead of a banana, you get teleported to Scotland." Edgy, but not offensive. Unfortunately the contributions appear to have gone unchecked - are there any style or content guidelines, for example? I think the wiki can be made to work, but as it is, I guess I have to agree that we shouldn't have an official affiliation. Slight support - Per Lee; some of the stuff is really well written and funny ([ this one is awesome]); but a lot of it has gone downhill fast... Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 16:21, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Support its not good for the name of the wiki being connected to that, if we are wanting to get in contact with Jagex like they have to other fansites we need to get this removed  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Timwac (talk).

Comment and Slight Proposal - (Gah, edit conflict) While I am always a part of the UnRuneScape community, I have to say a lot of the crap on there is utterly vulgar, which I hate to see as there are a lot of actually good pages on there that is more of a parody then just random cursing about Zezima or how Jagex sucks, etc. Most of the articles on there should be deleted on wiki as I would like to see more creative and actually funny articles instead of more than half of the content on there. Even though I would hate to see the UnRuneScape Wiki lose its title as a sister site, maybe in the future if I and some of the other good editors manage to help clean up the entire site to fit the needs of the RuneScape Wiki community, we may once again have a confirmed affiliation. Do you guys think that might work later on? Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 16:24, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

I think it should work later on. Once the content in the UnRuneScape Wiki gets cleaned up, it should be okay for it to be a sister site again. C.ChiamTalk 16:29, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I hope that we can get everything settled soon. I'll see what I can as far as updating the style and beginner's guides, updating current policies, and adding future policies to help keep the unwanted article level down as much as we can. I hope this conflict can be solved soon enough. Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 16:40, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
I'll go on a deletion fest right away. I've noticed the decline in quality myself, and I must say I am ashamed of it. We never really had enough good content to raise standards to a reasonable level without deleting half our articles, but I value the association with this wiki, so I'll do everything I can to make it more respectable.--{{SUBST:Signatures/Pig house}} 16:51, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

oppose - so long as we are sure that we can not save the unrunescape wiki from being a spam ground, than I support the proposal. I used to think it was a fun wiki before all the things mentioned above came into play. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 18:55, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

We're not affiliating with them because of the content they have. At the moment, they are cleaning up the content. Once they are done, they can request to affiliate with us again. Thus, we should not be affiliating with them for now. C.ChiamTalk 06:05, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Support - Linking to such content can quite possibly earn a bad reputation... --— Enigma 21:29, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Support - Per all above. If consensus reaches I suggest to the editors of the Unrunescape wiki to implement some policies, do some massive cleaning and get some admins to enforce the policies. If everything gets straight we may be able to hook up again. Zaros tally.PNGBladeQuick chat button.png# 00:42, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

The wiki is implying all those things you pointed out as of now. Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 01:44, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

An easy way out...

I can't support this. Yes, the area has become a hotspot for sexually immature idiots. But that doesn't mean you should cut it off. If anything, we need dedicated editors from here to help us through a bad patch. We've had to take whatever comes as more and more of us have other commitments. There was a golden age when there were good pages, and there is genuinely funny humour buried in there somewhere- in fact, there is quite a lot. If a member of your family has problems, do you cut them and treat them like a pariah? No, you support them through this difficult time. That's what we need. We're sick, not dying- and we need medicine, not putting down. I am convinced we can make it through this bad patch- but only if talented writers come and help us. We try to clear up, but it isn't easy. What we need is support. Don't take the easy way out. Don't waste something that has potential. User:Angel's Fire 16:40, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Sadly, 5 or 6 good pages don't really do much to make up for the rest of the crap. Also, comparing removal from the list of sister sites to those jerkasses who refused to get their son treatment for his highly treatable form of cancer...? Priceless. WWTDD? 16:43, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
That's not an accurate analogy because after all, we aren't one big family. The community within each wiki is technically a family. If the UnRuneScape Wiki can't clean up its offensive content, then we should not be affiliating with it. You can't expect us to affiliate with every "sick" RuneScape-related wiki, can you? C.ChiamTalk 16:48, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Angel, I agree with the fact that we need more contributing editors added to the UnRuneScape team as we have a dire lack of members and we are trying to stay afloat. Most new members create a couple spam articles, then leave forever leaving us to delete or help clean up the article. I think the more good quality members we can get, the better the quality the wiki will get. Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 16:45, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Very eloquent plea there, Angel, though I see why you don't want to be associated with us. But surely some degree of association can only be a good thing? If wikis co-operated with one another, it would benefit all parties involved. It's realy a shame that inter-wiki co-operation is so low, as Caleb's view demonstrated.Pig HouseInane Ramblings
As seen from Forum:Fansite Partnership?, we don't affiliate with other fansites unless their site is actually up and running and able to function on its own. I don't see why it needs other wikis to help it out. The UnRuneScape Wiki should be able to manage itself and function on its own. That's just my view. C.ChiamTalk 17:10, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
Never liked it, never will. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 18:21, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
To say that UnRuneScape is fix-upa-able is a massive lie. The entire wiki is incredibly vulgar and distastful, and I can see it actually attracting Jagex's attention...and NOT in a good way, for sure. Also, THEY USED MY USERNAME WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I refuse to let anyone use my username for such purposes; being compared to a character on those "crappy anime shows about people who can't pay their rent" (which is what the Skillcape Brothers describes be as)is NOT very considerate of me. Granted I made an article on Tarikochi, but that was in what people call "the good days" (AND the picture of "her" was of Chia). Then the sexual-innuendo-loving users showed up, and I abandoned that big pile of garbage.
While the wiki might not be fully fixed, it can get close to it. Currently it is being massively updated as per this discussion. And correction, Chia used your name, not the UnRuneScape Wiki. He said he was using the site to host his story as Vista had a chance of screwing it up on his computer. Since Chia is your friend, I thought you wouldn't mind him using your username is his story, but I guess not.Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 01:44, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I say we not only have no affiliations towards UnRuneScape, but also see if we can't get the whole thing wiped clean by Wikia staff, then have it locked to editors permanently. This, in my mind, is the wikiwide equivelent of deletion, and I feel that it should truly be implemented, if it can be. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 20:59, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
And no, I really don't think permanently removing is going to solve it. We are currently doing a complete overhaul of the wiki and adding some future policies that is going to crack down on this filth and vulgar that makes up most of the wiki. It has potential, and because it does, I don't think removing it will do any good to the few editors that still like it. Rollback crown.svg Spencer (Talk | Edits | Contribs) 01:44, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

In conclusion, we will no longer affiliate with the UnRuneScape Wiki. They may ask to affiliate with us again in the future, once their content gets cleaned up (preferably). If there are any immediate objections, please raise them now. Otherwise, this topic will be closed. C.ChiamTalk 14:04, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
