At first, I was fine with the Evony ads. Just some attractive women to lure people to play the game (which really has nothing at all to do with attractive women.) But this [1], this is too far. It portrays nothing but a close up of a woman's breasts. Many users may find this offensive, and it doesn't belong here. What would someone think, particularly a female, if they came to this site to get a little help with that quest they've been struggling with, and see this? It may even offend them to a point of never coming back. I propose that we contact wikia to remove these ads from our site, because users may find them offensive. Guys, I know what you might be thinking, 'Oh, I like those pictures, I'm opposing.' But how would you feel if the ads contained close ups of your genitals? You'd think it was sick most likley, and would want to remove it.

Update 9/3/09 Please read Stinkowing's post, it has some very very important points!

Extreme Support - Evony actually used to be called Civony, and was exposed as a scam. We had problems with this on a Pokemon site I go to regularly, and one of the members there found the following post on another forum. Read:
"So it seems like every website has ads for this website game, so we (Digital Confectioners) decided to actually look into and research it. And we came up with a whole lot of lols.
The first thing I did was go to their website to actually find out about the game and what it's about.
So I click on their Tour page and all it has for six pages or so is screenshots of the game. The screenshots don't have any extra information, and neither do the pages. So in the tour, you don't learn a single thing about the game.
So in the screenshots, as I look at it I think, hmmm, I have seen these graphics before. Turns out, I'm not the only one and they've actually been lifted from Age of Empires 2. Exactly. Comparing screenshots of the game to ingame content, I found it was either the same, or copy-paste jobs.
So I think, ok, with that aside, perhaps the actual game isn't so bad. I read their forums a little bit, and I uncovered nuggets of gold.
The game uses a 10:1 ratio when it comes to cash. I know you're thinking that they give you $10 ingame currency to $1USD... but it's actually the other way around. That's right, to get $3 ingame currency, it costs you $30USD. Now, the game states that it is free to play... but there are some catches here. Some content of the game cannot be seen or unlocked until you've paid $0.5 in game currency, thus you can't do some stuff unless you give them $5. This charge exists because the item you need to buy upgrades a building. That's right, you have to pay $5 just to upgrade a single building, so you can see more content. Anything they could monetize, they've done. Ingame world chat costs you $0.3 USD. The funniest thing about all this is the payment schemes. The smallest amount you can pay is $5 USD and the largest amount is $3000 USD. What? Seriously? For $3000 USD you can play WoW or some other top notch MMO for years.
So now that you know about the money side of things, one of the deals with joining up to the game is that you get $100 - $50 worth of in game stuff. But when things wind up costing so much, you may only get a couple of things in the end!!!
The women in the ads are also funny. This game has no queens at all, even thou the ads tell you that your Queen is awaiting. The official forum FAQs told me this one. Even the moderators think half the game is stupid.
Lastly, I decided to look up who on earth would make this game. It turns out to a Chinese company in China called UMGE. So I went to their website, and on the far right there is a big button which says "Add Fund! Pay now!". I haven't even registered or signed up to their site / games and they're already trying to get me to pay for stuff. Note how they talk about three games on their site, one of them being Civony. There are another two, but I wasn't able to even access either sites! So I can pay for the other two games that I can't even access to. Lastly, on the footer, it says "ALL CONTENT COPYRIGHT ©2009 REGANMERC.COM". What the hell? Who is So I went to that address and it's just a parked domain name by GoDaddy. So either they stole someone else's site, or someone messed up huge time."
So there you have it. Not only are the ads pornographic, they're a huge drain on money and totally illegal. I support this proposal. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 02:00, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Well. Now that's even more reason to support, then. Lol. — Enigma 02:08, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
Support - This issue has also been raised at Wikia Central Forums, see [[w:Forum:Evony bra adverts]]. There's also some info here about who to contact regarding problematic adverts. --Quarenon  Talk 02:57, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Support - These are not easy to get rid off actually, as they use the same domain spamming technique RWT companies do. I already went through this process with the Reader's Digest and ended up adding about 30 evony URLs to the filter before it stopped. Here is a link where you can find a list of URLs that has to be added to the filter: Look for Benjaminsen's list somewhere in the middle of the thread. I hope it helps. --Vaskor 03:02, September 4, 2009 (UTC)Vaskor

Support - I was wondering when someone would bring this up. Lets' get rid of them.--Joe Click Here for Awesomeness 06:44, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Support - Screw Evony. The ads are offensive and it's time for them to go. The game is also owned by a gold farming company, so I've heard. ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  07:01, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Not doing anything here - This has been said quite a few times. We have no control over the ads. NONE. See a bad ad? [[2]]. That's all. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 21:24, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Well, I think we're trying to decide as a community if we should report it. Butterman62 (talk) 23:09, September 4, 2009 (UTC)
I felt that we had already (no oppose) so I did. ShinyUnown T | C | E 23:14, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - We input a very large amount of information for free and it's the advertisements that keep this site free. With that said, we have had many advertisements in the past that have been requested for removal and as with other discussions there can really be no conclusion to a request; they will keep coming. D4K has suggested the best situation for an ad removal. For additional assistance you may also read the archives on other requests and the response from staff on Sannse's talk page and other requests (1, 2).

Support - I think it is important that Wikia knows that the community is against advertisements of this nature. Why Jagex seems to support having them in the F2P user client interface is beyond me, but I suppose they aren't gold farmers (at the moment) dealing with RS players. I've seen these ads nearly everywhere, including on websites that I am very surprised to see them on, so it isn't as if the RS wiki is being explicitly targeted. I am curious what the other large gaming wikis have to say about this topic as well, which might also help Wikia in terms of knowing that these advertisements are getting offensive and misleading. Too bad the game isn't nearly as good as the ads (if you are into that thing). --Robert Horning 15:27, September 6, 2009 (UTC)

you may be shocked, but I don't think they care. Ads are ads, they don't mean anything or say anything about your character or the people you deal with. Sometimes you get crappy ones, thats just the way it is, and as long as the internet exists, thats the way its always going to be. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 16:30, September 6, 2009 (UTC)
Even if they don't care, we could always use this as a sort of petition to try and get them to remove it. Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!I have 12 friends. 17:01, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
I'm not talking shocked about the advertisements, but finding them on websites that discuss very technical engineering matters and locations that only a genuine rocket scientist would find exciting. While some of those websites are visited by folks who also play MMORPGs, it just seems a little bit off. I've also seen these ads on political commentary websites too. The point I'm making here is that this company seems to be spending a mountain of money to put the word out about this game, something I have not really seen Jagex do with Runescape... to give an example. In spite of that, Runescape will always have a larger market share of paid users playing, or F2P for that matter. I'm talking breadth of advertisement coverage, not merely being shocked at the content alone. --Robert Horning 22:12, September 8, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I left a message at Sannse's talkpage about the adverts and she replied, saying:

Hi, we are removing these every time we see them... they are universally disliked, including by us! The problem is, that each time ask one of our providers to remove an ad, another appears on a different network (or even on the same network, with different details). I'm afraid it's a "wack-a-mole" situation, and one that sites all over the internet are going though at the moment. We have a new ad guy, who is very keen to get these off the site, so we will keep at it! -- sannse<staff /> (talk) 01:04, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Looks like we're not the only ones who dislike it. C.ChiamTalk 01:06, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Closed - Wikia is doing all they can to get rid of the adverts, so there's no need to discuss this anymore. C.ChiamTalk 01:08, September 9, 2009 (UTC)
