Dtm has been a frequenter of chat for a long time. However, his sole act is posting links to unrelated news websites, typically politics or whatever, usually from 'clickbaity' sources. Despite being asked/warned to stop multiple times, this continues. My main problem isn't necessarily the links themselves - its just his general attitude and apparent belief that he is above consequence because he is a 'crat or whatever.

Thus, my proposal is to simply remove Dtm from chat for a significant amount of time, if not permanently.

However, administrators cannot be banned from chat. So there are two options:

  • Dtm stays out of chat of his own accord
  • Dtm has his bureaucrat and administrator usergroups removed and is then banned from chat
  • Dtm is banned from chat without removal of tools, and has tools removed should he remove his own ban (per Ciphrius' comment below)

Some random examples of the past year

Discussion

Support removal of tools and ban - As Dtm has used administrator tools minimally the past year, and we have plenty of active admins around (including a 'crat and several VSTF), I have no issue with removing his tools. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 23:40, December 4, 2015 (UTC)

Support remove tools & ban - The only uses of his tools this past year was to move a file and edit the sidebar two times. He has only made 22 edits in this whole year, 11 months, in which is pretty low for a bureaucrat who can be more active than this. His activity in chat is still only clickbaity links 24/7 7/7 30/30, even after being asked to slow down/stop the clickbait links. I support removal of tools and ban. — Jr Mime (talk) [VSTF] 23:49, December 4, 2015 (UTC)

Suppport 'crat tool removal and chat ban - This is probably going to seem extreme for what he's doing, but it's what he's NOT doing that has me more worried. As in, he doesn't do anything to help the wiki. The 22 edits this year when we're in December says a lot to me about who he's become; which is NOT a productive 'crat. The supports above mine are for removing his bureaucrat abilities, right? Yeah, they are, I was informed.7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 01:27, December 5, 2015 (UTC)

As a note, here's something he said to me when I asked him to stop posting clickbait:

[2015-12-01 23:53:14] <Dtm142> whining about links should be against the rules imo.

[2015-12-01 23:53:25] <Dtm142> all it does is spam the chat and create hostility.

So yeah, it's like he knows what he's doing is annoying. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 02:14, December 5, 2015 (UTC)

Strong support removal of tools, neutral/soft support on chat ban - Bureaucrats are supposed to represent the wiki in a positive way, be mature, and cooperate with other editors. Dtm doesn't fit this criteria, and hasn't for a long time now. While his comments are annoying, I think it's pleasing to see that Dtm tries to keep in touch with the wiki by staying in chat. Although, if his tools were to be removed, I guess there is no point for him to be in chat if he can't help anyone else. Could you find me any instance of Dtm offering help or trying to help anyone in S:C in regarding of RS or the wiki, in which concluded a discussion or something happening? — Jr Mime (talk) [VSTF] 02:10, December 5, 2015 (UTC)
I'm not saying there were any circumstances at all, but the option was there. However, I do remember a user (Cam?) requesting Dtm to place a bot tag on their bot. Comment - It is possible to ban admins from the chat (see chat ban log), but they should be able to undo the ban themselves. I am nae making any statement regarding action against Dtm, nor am I attempting to convince anybody to change their current stance, only clarifying that there is another option (banning from chat with tool removal should he reverse said ban against consensus) available if need be What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 21:55, December 5, 2015 (UTC)

Support removing tools and ban - Bureaucrats are supposed to be responsible/professional representatives of a Wiki, which he has not been. Kent Knifen (talk) 23:37, December 7, 2015 (UTC)

Support removal from S:C - There is nothing wrong with posting non-RuneScape/wiki related links in the chat or having discussions about more controversial real life issues in S:C. The problem here is the manner in which Dtm is choosing to do both of these things in (by regularly linking and commenting about "news" stories that are inflammatory, and sometimes just plain offensive). I agree with what others have said about this making up the vast majority of Dtm's interaction in the chat. He doesn't join in conversations about the wiki, only talks about RuneScape/Jagex to complain and isn't really involved in chat moderation.

He's already been asked to stop this multiple times by different people, so I think an indefinite chat ban is necessary now. Given that Dtm has shown no willingness to voluntarily stop what he's been doing before, I don't think that asking him to voluntarily stay out of the chat now is a good solution.

As for removing Dtm's bureaucrat and administrator rights, lack of use alone doesn't warrant removing them and Dtm has not abused these rights on the wiki itself. However Dtm's behaviour is not up to the standard I would expect in a crat. Despite having several people take issue with his use of the chat, Dtm has ignored or dismissed criticism rather than discuss issues - something that seems to go against the principles of the wiki being a collaborative project, built on compromise and reaching consensus. I'm also concerned that Dtm has been taking advantage of his status as a crat (and the grey area about whether it is possible for admins/crats to be banned from the chat) to carry on doing what he wanted regardless of other people's opinions. It is also concerning that Dtm doesn't appear to be aware of the negative impressions he could be giving newcomers to the chat, given that the onsite chat is one of the places we recommend new editors look for help and that he is designated as one of our "trusted" editors. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelJTalk page 23:11, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

The fact that he's continuing to ignore this thread worries me as well. Apparently he is aware of it, but doesn't want to comment (it's in the logs, but I can't find it exactly, but I know he said it); regardless, a 'crat should be more professional than this. I think you stated how I feel about the chat ban (though I think he needs his crat tools removed regardless of the outcome of this thread). 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 03:58, December 9, 2015 (UTC)

Support removal from chat - Dtm's attitude in the chat is highly negative. He frequently posts stuff like "Dumb fuck of the day" alongside something he thinks is stupid (25 November's DFOTD is particularly gross, referenced on 2 December), as well as posting inappropriate or disturbing links without warning (1 December, bottom of chat logs). He has also shown that he disnae take this thread seriously (calling it a witch hunt: 30 November, 5 December, 6 December). Closed - While ideally this thread would run for longer than eight days, it seems that unfortunately discussion has ceased to be serious, and as such I will close it now. I will also note that per Special:Chat/Logs, Dtm142 is aware of this thread and has expressed disinterest in participating.

The consensus here is that Dtm142 has engaged in behavior inconsistent with what is expected as both a participant in Special:Chat and a bureaucrat/administrator on the wiki. As such, Dtm will be banned from chat, and his bureaucrat and administrator tools will be removed. While it should be noted that Dtm has not abused his tools in any way, should the community decide that he has engaged conduct inconsistent with what is expected from someone in his position, wikians are always able to remove Dtm from his position by consensus (example). That is the case here.

As there was little discussion on the length of Dtm's ban, I will initially set it to six months. Once this expires, should Dtm engage in similar behavior, chat moderators are free to immediately ban Dtm.

I will contact Wikia staff about removing rights. --LiquidTalk 03:34, December 12, 2015 (UTC)
