I'm splitting this off of Forum:Java calculators. I have written an extension for the wiki that will allow us to get high scores data called RSHighscores.

  • Provides a new parser function {{#highscores:}} that will return the raw RuneScape's Highscores Lite string.
  • Unless page cache is disabled by another extension, the data is saved preventing the data from being recollected each page load.
  • Limited to one call per page to prevent abuse, but this can easily be changed with a configuration variable to any number or 0 to allow unlimited calls.
  • This is to be used by StringFunctions, bots, or JavaScript(Calcs).

This is not required to have the calculators, but they would almost be pointless to have without a way to automatically get the user data rather than relying on manual input alone. The implementation of the new calculators should be held off wiki wide if they pass until this proposal passes or fails, due to the impact this feature will have on them.

If this is approved by the community, then I will send the extension for review by Wikia and work to make changes as they require. If they approve it, then it will be installed on the wiki.

  • Strongly Support - The power that this has when tied to stuff like the GEMW data can be amazing.... While I know the training guides would be useful with this information, the money making guides almost demand this sort of information. --Robert Horning 18:33, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - What RuneScape username would it refer to, as there are people who have wiki usernames that are different and people who share the same (like me)? ShinyUnown T | C | E 20:51, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

Whatever you put in there. {{#highscores:catcrewser}} - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 20:56, September 30, 2009 (UTC)
I meant, how could it automatically fetch the username? ShinyUnown T | C | E 21:12, September 30, 2009 (UTC)
It can't fetch the username, you must put it in yourself. The calcs could have an auto-complete feature added to allow it to remember user names so you would not have to enter it each time, but other than that it only would know what the user entered. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 21:16, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

  • Request for action - As it seems consensus for having this extension installed is for it and has had no concerns brought up so far, I request permission to follow through with the required actions and once complete have closure of this thread. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 20:06, October 2, 2009 (UTC)

Closed - approved. Butterman62 (talk) 20:20, October 3, 2009 (UTC)

Full closure - Extension is currently being used and this thread serves no further purpose. I'll close it properly now.
