Greetings. I would like to propose some changes to RuneScape:Quest style guide and as such quest articles. Proposal 1 is completely new, proposal 2 and 3 are already being implemented to quest articles, but I'd like to make them official and having them added to RS:QSG. The reason for proposal 1 is: it's still an article. The reason for proposal 2 is: we have quick guides for that. The reason for proposal 3 is: this is a guide. Two examples of quest guides already using proposal 2 and 3 are Love Story and King of the Dwarves.

Proposal 1

Expand the introduction above the guide. Sure, we don't need endless paragraphs, but more than "Hans's Marriage is an Ultimate Grandmaster quest released on 49 Centember 2467. It is the third quest in the Hans is Sooo Smart quest series and continues where the previous quest, The Evil Chicken, The Noob and The Hansonator, ended." It could tell something about the developer, the area(s) it features in, whether there were any new NPCs released, graphical updates, storyline, et cetera.

Proposal 2

Write quests like a story, not like steps, as we now have quick guides for that. Ex.:


  • Speak to Reldo in the Library of Varrock Palace. He will tell something about Mahjarrat.
  • Now go to King Roald and pickpocket him.
  • Teleport to the Bahamas and find Bob. Talk to him.

Speak to Reldo in the Library of Varrock Palace. He will say that he thinks the Mahjarrat are behind the attacks and reveal some history about them. The Mahjarrat were freed by Icthlarin, the desert god of the dead, from their home realm Freneskae, which is a plane of endless war and destruction. After having served Icthlarin for a few thousand years, the Mahjarrat were taken from him by a god named Zaros. [goes on for a few more lines] You will tell Reldo that you saw a Mahjarrat put a partyhat in King Roald's pocket. Reldo will ask you to steal it from the king and bring it to Bob in the Bahamas. Now go to King Roald. Talking to him will be useless, so he must be pickpocketed. Do so and receive a Bomb very obviously disguised as partyhat. You must now teleport to the Bahamas. Locate Bob and talk to him. Show him your partyhat. He will tell you...


Proposal 3

The guides must be written in the imperative form, but not every line, as it will become redundant and dull.

The player must speak to Reldo. He or she should now ask about Mahjarrat. Reldo will tell them that...

You must now speak to Reldo. You should ask about Mahjarrat. Reldo will tell you...

Speak to Reldo and ask him about Mahjarrat. Reldo will tell you...

Okay, discuss and tell me if I missed anything. If you have any other suggestions for additions to the QSG, tell them so we can discuss those as well.

Support 2 and 3 - We already have RS:LEAD for how to write lead sections. I believe quest articles should already follow that, and information such as development and the storyline should already be mentioned in the intro, assuming they're important enough to be included. Support 2 and 3 - It's incredibly difficult to write a meaningful lead on some quest articles. Granted, I have managed on some quest guides, but it simply isn't possible without sounding repetitive or cheesy on some. That said, good luck enforcing these new rules Lol. Unless you mean to rewrite every quest guide, it's simply not going to happen. I've already knocked out about 9ish so far, but it would take a really long time to update all of the pages to conform to this guide. Suppa chuppa Talk 15:17, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Yep, but it should go well if other help. Problem 1: The best way to do this is while doing the quest. I myself have 309 QP... Problem 2: New quests are being written the bad way, like Salt in the Wound. Let's all work together the second/third day after Branches of Darkmeyer and make it a nice article! Strong support 2 - I don't write quest guides very often, but when I do, I always like 3 anyway. The way I see it, leave 3 for the quick guides. Also, isn't supporting both 2 and 3 self contradictory? Matt (t) 22:18, August 12, 2011 (UTC)

Notice of intent - A change to the style guide would be counterproductive unless we have quick guides for all (or almost all) of the quests. As such, this cannot be closed as successful until those guides are written, or unless someone clearly states his intentions to create them in the near future. "Eventually get around" is not the same as near future.

OK = Average - lacking either good writing, images, explanations of in-game events/dialogues, etc.
