I was reading the Protection Policy and I read this: "Pages may, however, be temporarily or permanently protected for legal reasons (for example, license texts should not be changed)". Now based on that every page on the RuneScape and its contents are copyrighted by Jagex, does this mean that we should place some level of protection on every "Update:" namespace page since they are copied verbatim from the website?? The pages are there for historical and reference purposes anyway, so there is no real need to edit them anyway. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 08:41, November 27, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I striked out the last sentence of the into since people seem to be misinterpreting it. The protection policy seems to imply that it is illegal to alter other peoples copyrighted work and then publish it as being quoted from the horses mouth. I know nothing about the copyright laws in England, but if it is so then it would be possible for Jagex to request to remove or sue Wikia over the materiel. It makes sense for there to be a law preventing people from changing quotes to suit their agenda. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 11:28, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Neutral - It wouldn't affect the Wiki much at all if they were protected, and I don't really see a reason why not... yet, I don't see a reason to do it either.... hmm. I guess I'm neutral. If everyone else somehow insists, by all means, go ahead I guess. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 08:46, November 27, 2009 (UTC)
The think that made me check the protection policy was when an ip vandalised an update page twice and it wasn't noticed for half a month. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 08:51, November 27, 2009 (UTC)
Hang on, that makes it sound like I am suggesting it for the vandalism aspect. I made this because of the legal reason, not vandalism. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 08:55, November 27, 2009 (UTC)
Well in that case, I support it for the vandalism aspect of it not matter what (if you're suggesting it or not), but the legal part doesn't seem like a big deal to me at all, Jagex doesn't own letters/text/words, and that's all we take from their site and put on the Update: pages. Now, if we took a direct image from their site, it would be different, but Jagex does not own the words " WILDERNESS HAS BEEN REMOVED " or any variation or expansion of it. Therefore I'd have to oppose, it's not a big deal anyway Lol. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 09:01, November 27, 2009 (UTC)
I thought that the letters/words/text would be included since "This website [RuneScape] and its contents are copyright © 1999 - 2009 Jagex Ltd". Just because it is typed instead of designed does not mean that it isn't copyrightable. If that were true, then every publishing company in the world would currently be publishing Harry Potter since it can't be copyrighted because it is made up of words. ...ah. Good points, fully agreed. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 03:29, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Slight Oppose - I have been on this wiki for more than a year and I have never seen Update: vandalism. By the way, someone might be putting a link or category in there. Would be a shame if you would have to go to RS:AR just to ask someone to categorise something for you. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 09:37, November 27, 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - Per the arguments at Forum:Semi-protect Update: namespace, particularly the ones about being able to edit them for maintenance reasons. --Quarenon  Talk 04:00, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - My interpretation of protection for legal reasons covers legal text and articles with current legal concerns. The updates aren't actual legal document text, and unless Jagex contacts us with legal concerns, I doubt that we have any legal concerns with these articles. As far as the vandalism goes, I don't see these articles as high risk for vandalism occurring often on these pages. If we were to protect an entire namespace I think we'd need some very compelling reasons. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 05:55, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Closing Serious lack of discussion but no consensus to proceed.--Degenret01 06:01, March 24, 2010 (UTC)
