This page is for theme submissions to create a new look for the new Wikia skin. Please visit this page for examples and more information.

Rules[edit source]

  • The skin must be created with the ThemeDesigner, and may not feature any skin modifications through Wikia.css.
  • Please make sure the new skin is compatible with screen resolutions (min. 1280x720, max. 1920x1080). Please visit this wiki to design your own theme using the ThemeDesigner.
  • If you have a fitting logo, please add it in the picture.
  • The deadline for submission is 15 November 2010, so the submissions are closed. Please note that this includes resubmissions. You may not make changes to your submitted logo after this time.
  • Creating an account before submitting is recommended, but not required.

How to submit[edit source]

  • Create your own skin at using the ThemeDesigner at any wiki. Please visit this wiki to design your own theme using the ThemeDesigner.
  • Upload your screenshot to ImageShack or Photobucket. Please do not upload them to the Wiki.
  • Paste the "Direct link" from ImageShack or Photobucket where it says "Direct link" in the next empty row.
  • Where it says "Description", add a brief summary of your Theme and why you think it should be chosen. If you did not make the theme from scratch, explain the origin and changes you have made
  • Change "Sign here" to "~~~~", which will be converted into a signature and timestamp when you save the page.
  • Save the page.
  • If you wish to suggest a theme without actually creating it, please add it to the bottom of the page. Be sure to add ~~~~ to the end of your post.

Comment - This is something tiny, but if you have the ability to, could we please have a link to Forum:Clan Chat on the Community drop down menu?   Swizz Talk   Events!   13:37, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

We would have to remove a link from there then because of the 7 max in each drop down. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 13:45, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Test period[edit source]

Alright, I've been talking with Cook about the logistics of implementing the new theme, and we both think that we need more time to make sure that everything looks perfect when the theme goes live for everyone. Anyone can currently test out the theme by adding the following lines to the beginning of User:<insert name here>/wikia.css

@import "/index.php?title=User:Aburnett/NewTheme.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css";

@import "/index.php?title=Forum:Propose_a_new_theme/common.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css";

(Gaz is working on some better CSS, but this works for time being)

As you browse the site using the new skin, make note of anything that looks bad, and feel free to make changes to Forum:Propose a new theme/common.css. Only make changes to this CSS file, as the other file will not be modifiable when it is implemented using ThemeDesigner. Also tag images that need to be edited to look good with a colored background. Finally, make suggestions for template color changes where necessary. This will allow us to have the best looking skin possible when we do finally make this happen. Obviously this is going to push out the theme's release, but I am still committed to making the change before the end of January. --Aburnett(Talk) 02:13, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

Just in case you forgot most people can't edit your css, so what should we do if we see something needing changing? your talkpage? Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 02:26, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
Man I am so stupid. I've moved it to Forum:Propose a new theme/common.css. --Aburnett(Talk) 02:41, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
For some reason it's not working for me, I hard refreshed multiple times but still nothing. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 02:57, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
What isn't working? --Aburnett(Talk) 03:00, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, you need to add the 2 lines to the beginning of the CSS file, not the end. --Aburnett(Talk) 03:03, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
K, works now thanks. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 03:05, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Template:Infobox Item, Template:Infobox Monster, Template:Infobox non-player character, Template:Infobox Construction and Template:Infobox Music all need some of their colours changed a bit to suit the new background. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 03:49, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed. Also, we need to change our styling for Template:Navbox. --Aburnett(Talk) 21:01, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
RuneScape:Theme/classes has a documentation of most the classes used to change the colours of the skin. To save work, RuneScape:Theme/heroes.css changes most of the tables, infoboxes and templates which just requires a copy-paste. Mark<helper /> (talk) 12:43, December 29, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - "Blue" links need to have their colour darkened as they are much too light right now. 222 talk 09:22, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

By "Blue" links, do you mean the wikilinks in the article text that have a light brown color? If so, I oppose any change, they have already been accepted as part of the theme and are not difficult to read IMHO. --Aburnett(Talk) 21:01, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
  • QUestion: Is there a way that the new bg-image can be given a fixed position at the top of the screen (so it stays on the screen all the time) without resorting to complex positioning and z-index hacks? 22:28, December 28, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but I oppose that change. --Aburnett(Talk) 22:54, December 28, 2010 (UTC)

Feedback - I really liked the colours and such on this theme. However the background needs to either repeated or made bigger so it takes up the whole page. Also those boxes at the top with the Wiki's content, when you hover over them they blend in with the back ground colour of the page meaning it's kind of camouflaged, perhaps we could change the shade slightly. Finally can we please get rid of the Recent Activity and crap on the right side of the page or atleast make it smaller? It takes up half of the article making it look bad.   Swizz Talk   Events!   13:46, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Also, BRING BACK THE SITE NOTICE.   Swizz Talk   Events!   14:47, December 30, 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately a lot of the changes you want to see made are not possible. Wikia has forced a new skin template which is VERY inflexible. --Gold ore.png Mercifull UK serv.svg (Talk) 18:22, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I have tested the new skin and the colours are good. The only things I would change are:

  1. The colour schemes of templates
  2. The background colour of the Table of Contents (or add a border) so we can distinguish it from the article
  3. The background of the sitenotice in the recent changes area
  4. The background of the category adder at the bottom of pages
  5. Change the colour of the background of text changes (when you are comparing edits)
  6. Darken the header lines

Change[edit source]

The theme has been changed. Please suggest and make changes as necessary. --Aburnett(Talk) 02:13, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Darken the (former) blue links. That's pretty much all. 222 talk 02:20, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

  • Main page gradient things fade to white.
  • Main page rainbow colors look bad against the peach color.
  • White wikitables look bad against the peach color.
  • Sitenotice looks bad against the peach color.
  • Green administrator color (#22CC00) is too light, and looks bad against the peach color.
  • Links could be a little darker.
  • Welcome Notice's blue doesn't go with the peach color.
  • The peach doesn't go with my skin color.

Comment - Thank you in advance for providing detailed directions for how to change our own css pages back to the default Oasis theme. --LiquidTalk 02:32, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Stuff I noticed

  • The unvisited links should be a little darker
  • Visited links should be lighter than the unvisited ones
  • The search box barely shows up against its background. It should be made lighter.
  • Wikitable headers (the cells which show up when ! is used instead of |) are still a light gray color and should be changed to a slightly darker tan than the normal | cells

Note - the gradient thingy is going to be tricky, but I'm working on a fix.

Ok, fixed the gradient, but you may need to go to and bypass your cache while on that page. 03:07, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
Sorry chief, but we changed the background color on ya. Could you change it again? --Aburnett(Talk) 03:12, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
Weird. I cleared my cache and the color stayed exactly the same. 03:20, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose the change - When this was proposed, the theme didn't look too bad in the picture. However, after this is implemented, the color theme just doesn't work out. The colors are all light brown/beige/light peach/whatever you want to call it. A monochromatic wiki skin of this particular color makes it look like a dry desert. And we know how "inviting" the desert is. At least the default Oasis theme had blue side bars against a white background for SOME variation in color. This new theme looks uninviting.

Next is the problem with the links. Any color for links is going to have to be a variation of brown or black, but we're walking a delicate balance here. Too black, and the links are impossible to see in the text. Too brown, and impossible to see against the background. The old blue link in black color scheme works much better than the link scheme here.

For these and other yet-to-be-named reasons, I think we'd be better off if we reverted to the default Oasis theme. --LiquidTalk 02:50, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Absolutely not - It's been live for minutes. Wait a few weeks, then start a thread if you want it gone. --Aburnett(Talk) 02:52, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

I like this much better than the old one. I only have two suggestions, make the background picture scroll with the page (I can't remember what it's called, but when you scroll down the page, the bg picture will go with it.) and maybe for the people who don't like it, a way to pick another skin for them to use.(Actually I think there's already an option like that? o.O) Mimichu 03:16, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

The first thing is done by making the image fixed. And the second cannot be done, as Wikia removed the option to choose your own theme (not skin) with the implementation of Oasis. 222 talk 04:20, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
I believe that he meant people could change their personal wikia.css files if they don't like the fixed background image. I agree with him that the background image should be ixed, though I'm not sure if its possible. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 04:29, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - For those of you who want the background to scroll with you add:

body {
    background: url("") no-repeat fixed center top #CDA172;

To your wikia.css or if everyone would like it this way, add that to the MW page. Ryan PM 04:53, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Anyone know how to change to the old theme? Dragon longsword.png Nicholas4132 Coins 1000.png 06:34, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Nice new theme, but I still use Monobook. Wikia failed when deleted Monaco (and we all know that) :P. This wiki should move to ShoutWiki. --SMX (Talk) 08:52, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - For those who want oasis back, put this into Special:MyPage/wikia.css:

@import "";

If you want to keep the new theme, but want the background to scroll, add this instead:

body {background-attachment:scroll !important;}

Personally, I am loving the new theme. Everything that needs to be changed has been mentioned: gradients, wikitables (infoboxes included), links, etc. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 13:45, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for this code! I prefer the old Oasis theme. (Monaco ftw! But we can't help, can we?) Debayan Talk! Strength through chaos! 16:14, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

The Content boxes are still in the colour of the new theme. Debayan Talk! Strength through chaos! 17:02, January 4, 2011 (UTC)
Liquid and I have been working on it, put this in your css page (replace the old import):
@import "/index.php?title=User:Liquidhelium/wikia.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css";
Note that he does have some more personal fixes there too, which right now is the last three lines. If you don't want these changes, just copy all the content of User:Liquidhelium/wikia.css except the last three lines (starts a[data-name="themedesigner"]). I'll see if I can make a page for solely the oasis css, but its failing to save right now. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 15:36, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

I put the code in my wikia.css page but it's not showing me the oasis theme. Click here--Dragon longsword.png Nicholas4132 Coins 1000.png 14:18, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

I don't know why that's not working for you - did you purge your cache per the instructions at the top of the page? Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 15:36, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Not so sure I like the links being brown... But, if you really must have them brown, they should all be brown. The link to the yew grove near the top of this page is still the default blue. Hofmic Talk 21:41, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I've moved all of the default oasis code that I got onto a separate page. To get the default Oasis look back, simply add the following to your wikia.css page.

@import "/index.php?title=User:Liquidhelium/oasis.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css";

Note that this changes all the CSS aspects that I have come across so far, such as diff page color, edit box color, etc. This does not change the aspects controlled locally on a page, like the color of the Yew Grove section title bars or the main page box colors. I'll add more CSS changes as I come across them, but right now this looks exactly like the original Oasis look. --LiquidTalk 00:16, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

RS:THEME overhauled, now includes links to that code at RuneScape:Theme/Oasis.css. --Aburnett(Talk) 03:15, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
In a short bit, that won't even be needed. It should all be done through the somewhatly forgotten extension of Gadgets in your preferences. Ryan PM 04:47, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
May I just take this opportunity to say that nothing in Gadgets has ever worked for me, ever? It's entirely unreliable, so I prefer to install things manually. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 07:36, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
Interesting that when the gadget for the CSS works, it is the last thing to load minus some Special pages. Sadly, it has yet to work on the Opera browser. Then again it hasn't been properly reloading since the last stable release. Another thing I have found while using the Gadgets is that they destroy the already poor Wikiaphone skin. I should have stated that users could use the gadget instead of the CSS if they wanted to. Ryan PM 17:18, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

Groan... - Can somebody please provide some CSS that reverts all of these changes? Thanks to Wikia's idiotic new way of loading CSS, I can't temporarily disable in Firebug/Chrome Dev Tools it to use the Wikia defaults. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 07:07, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

Derp. Forget I ever said that. I'm a regular user and I approve this message.  TLUL Talk - Contribs 07:16, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

At first the new theme was bugging me, but now that I'm used to it, I quite like it! One small detail though: the add a category thing when editing a page (the thing above summaries, the one that was green before) is more like a dark brown rectangle instead of a button now :P. Sides from that, great theme Quest point cape.pngTalk Newbie856 edit count Nomad guideMusic icon.png 02:00, January 12, 2011 (UTC)

i don't know if this is to do with the theme or an error on wikia's part but on some pages when i press the scroll ball on my mouse (sorry I don't know what its called) it has the option to scroll to the right which will make the middle section of the page scroll away and you are letf with the theme and a plain beige box left were the text should be. also this knew text editor on the wiki is really lagging and my computor isn't lagging on any other part of the wiki. i would hyperlink an image to show what i mean about the scroll thing but I don't have an account on any picture uploading sites :-( -- 18:48, January 17, 2011 (UTC)
