I've started a new proposed policy at RuneScape:Be bold

In some of the other discussion pages, I've noticed an increasing reluctance to either let people do things that can help out this wiki, or to really close discussion when it is painfully obvious that consensus has been achieved. In the spirit of trying to also be positive, I shamelessly copied the concept of being bold from Wikipedia (including a couple of sentences from wikipedia:Wikipedia:Be bold) and I am now seeking input in terms of this "policy" or essay.

From the way that I've written this essay, I was trying to address a relative newcomer to this website as the "target audience", although sometimes those of us who've been around for awhile might use a gentle reminder as well on these ideas. I also don't want to explicitly do a direct copy from Wikipedia, but make this something our own, and reflects the nature of the RS Wiki.

Feel free to fold, mutilate, spindle, hash, mercilessly edit, and massacre this essay as well. Constructive criticism is especially welcome. In short, be bold and edit this essay as well if it seems appropriate. If it seems like the proposed policy has settled down and become something useful to the Runescape community, I'd like to get it formally adopted. This would be something I think could have value in a number of future discussions. --Robert Horning 23:27, September 8, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - please do not make this a policy; simply make it an essay. These are simply opinions and we must not force our opinions on others (in fact, Wikipedia's version isn't a policy either; it's a guideline). Butterman62 (talk) 01:02, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Support essay - per Butterman. I don't really see anything that could be used to make a policy, but it would be a great essay. Andrew talk 01:03, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Support as essay—I very much like the spirit and message of this essay and believe new and longtime wikians can benefit from it. Horsehead Talk 02:11, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Support as essay - Might cause some misunderstanding as a policy. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 02:27, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Support as essay - Great way to remind people (especially newcomers) that all our editors are equal and you shouldn't afraid to do something ;) — Enigma 03:24, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Why don't you Be Bold Butterman and just make it anyways, lol. I like it, so I Support the essay as a means to help users.

Support as essay - Per supports thus far. We need to be more bold and we seem to have gotten away from that. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 03:56, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Support as guideline - Something that we have been missing so for long. I feel it is more a guideline, than an essay.   az talk   04:55, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Support - Great. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 05:29, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Support as essay - per above. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 18:50, September 9, 2009 (UTC)

Strong Support - This is a very true thing, and I've seen a few people not edit out of timidness. Zaros symbol.pngChaos Monk Talk SignCoins 250.png 19:54, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Support - Guideline, essay, whatever. I'm surprised we don't already have it! Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:57, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Support - I think this will encourage new and old users alike.  Tien  20:14, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Support - As a guideline. Will encourage new people to act and old to relax and allow change. An additional cliche line comes to mind for me..." Time to shoot the engineer and get on with production." Strength-icon.png Hammer2092 Time |KOTA Bandos godsword.png 20:26, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Closed - RuneScape:Be bold will be made into an essay.   az talk   15:36, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
