It could be just me, but I think that anyone who uses the summary to write offensive language should be blocked. I have seen some once in a while, but this one is the most recent one. I find it annoying how some IPs/editors (to keep it fair) sometimes add only one line or an extra space and then write in the summary "**** you" and what not. I'm not sure what you guys think, but I think it should result in a one day block since they seem to be abusing the summary and we cannot do anything to remove the offensive language.(Unless we made a mass amount of edits to bump it out of the recent changes. O_o )

Discussion[edit source]

Support - As the starter. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 03:30, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Support - At least a day, but I think that is short. Also, note that it is in the history forever, unless the revision is hidden(Oversight ftw). - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 03:55, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Mm, but we could delete the page then undelete all revisions but the offensive one(s) (a rather roundabout way to do it but still) . That is a bit over-the-top effort, though. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 09:03, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Support - 1st time:Warn. 2nd: Warn again 3rd: Block for a short period. I don't care if you user language anywhere else, but, seriously, I really don't want t see crap language in the RC. 04:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Support - I don't think we even need this discussion. Edit summary vandalism is equivalent to other vandalism and is a violation of the user treatment policy. Butterman62 (talk) 04:24, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Support - History is a part of the article, so swering in there should be treated just as swearing in mainspace. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 04:28, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Why is this necessary? We have already blocked people for this in the past. Andrew talk 04:30, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

I see it once in a while, but I don't really see some people doing it, and if you can find like some IP being blocked for abusing the summary, I guess it really wasn't neccessary. I just didn't think IPs are being blocked for this reason. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 04:34, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - This violation of the UTP is treated as any other violation of the UTP, yew grove threads are not necessary. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 04:38, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Ahh sorry about it then. I thought consensus is needed if we should really have to block IPs for abusing the summary. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 04:39, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Support - Sounds fair. Runecrafting.gif Mo 55 55 Talk|Sign 10:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Request for closure - Offensive content in summaries is already treated similarly to offensive content in the article itself. --Quarenon  Talk 21:50, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, wait. I have something to share.

If you see an edit with an offensive edit summary, you can hide it from recent changes by following these instructions. Butterman62 (talk) 22:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

What instructions? That page only gives instructions on how to rollback. Could you be more specific?   az talk   07:56, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I think he means marking the rollback with the bot flag, which by default gets hidden in recent changes. Only sysops can do this, though [1]. --Quarenon  Talk 08:19, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, that's what I meant. I just tested it and it seems to work. Butterman62 (talk) 01:29, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Support - Per all. Skull.pngDiaruga001Ancient talisman.png
