Well, the Clan Wars battles with the Nveon community are over, and from what I can tell (I didn't make it), it was a complete failure. Apparently the Nveon group left after one match and we ended up doing something else entirely. They expected more people than came (I think they outnumbered us 97 to 15), and they were disappointed that few people came from our side.

I guess just discuss what happened. ʞooɔ 00:08, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - The event was a disgrace, kudos to Nveon for showing no respect what-so-ever and quitting without any warning. So why didn't many people turn up? The main problem was the lack of advertising; thanks to Wikia and Oasis, our most effective tool to promote events - the Sitenotice - was gone; as a result, I was forced to make a last-minute announcement in R S Wikia, which luckily, gathered a reasonable amount of players. Afterwards, we procrastinated for a few minutes before we went into the FFA portal and killed some randoms, then someone challenged a 9-player clan and we won convincingly (by then, many players had left and we were down to around 12). I wasted an entire morning for no reason, could have slept in. 222 talk 00:14, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Comment The lack of adverts for it was a reason few showed, oasis being a fail and all (I was busy at the time, sorry), why don't we add {{MediaWiki:Sitenotice}} to MediaWiki:Recentchangestext so that the site notice is on one of the most visited pages. Comment - From what i can tell a few people forgot about it, when i talked about it in the cc yesterday almost everyone had forgotten about it. I did plan to go but my internet died for the 5th time this weekend so i couldn't come. I think this shows we need a better way to be able to communicate with the everyone on the wiki and maybe we could see if we could get ip's to come to these accounts as well. Agree - I theorise that although the communication thing was the biggest problem (we simply don't have an effective way of letting the massed know what's going on), two other factors were important too: the war held little significance to us as a wiki (Nveon's 3-year anniversary - excellent for them, but to us that is irrelevant. In addition "we" don't consider them one of our main fansite "rivals", unlike say RuneHQ; in fact most wikians had never heard of them before, simply as most of our userbase is not Spanish. So all in all a lot of possible attendants were apathetic), and it was in free-to-play. Now don't think that I don't want free-to-play events, they are an important part of our community and should have events organised for them, but the last umpteen wiki clan wars events have all been free-to-play (the Summer 'fest, vs RHQ; the Autumn 'fest, on a clan wars world; the Fansite Tourney, vs Tip.It and RHQ). When I spoke to a few people who didn't come the main reason was "its f2p". I almost didn't come myself for the same reason. We're over-f2p-ing clan wars.

So yeah. Next clan war I think should be members. While it does exclude some of our community, it will stimulate other parts of the community to get involved - we may just get a larger turnout, or maybe just a higher proportion of high levels thus increasing our chances somewhat.

As an add-on: Nveon ditching us after one match sucked. Anyone else think that we consider that them forfeiting thus we win the other 4 matches by default? =D Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 01:59, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

I believe parts of the fansite tourny were P2P. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 02:02, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
Swiz decided to make the clan wars events f2p for my own sake, but those two weeks were the only two I was unable to attend over the entire tournament. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 12:01, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

As said above, we went up against Nveon's group outnumbered greatly (a screenshot I took seconds after the wall dropped listed 16 against 93). It ended at roughly 5 and 90, after which point there was a down time between times. During the few minutes after the first battle, two large trains, assumed to be other clans, came from the South-West and Nveon apparently challenged one of them, either mistaking who they were challenging for us or not wanting to continue the event. A few minutes later, I believe Gaz recommended we go to Free-For-All if nothing was going to happen, when those who were still there did. After a bit of that, I came back into the lobby and challenged the person leading a stationary train I only knew was not Nveon, and we had a relatively quick war because everyone seemed so disappointed. From a military look on the event it was a failure in that not enough people came, and from a communal view it was a failure because only a fifth of the planned event was completed. Comment - You want the full story? K I'll give it to you. So basically, I woke up early, excited as hell, for my first ever in-game event with the community. So I got to w14 (It was 14 right?) and went to clan wars. I had my full rune with me and ready to kill those Nveons. As soon as I got there I knew something was up. We had, what? 15 people with us? and they had like 50. So we went into the portal and we were literally knocked out of the arena with in the first 20 seconds. Then there was another round. We beat Nveon in that one, but only because there were way less Nveons there. Then, felling happy, we waited for the next round to start. But did the next round start? No. Nveon warred another clan. We were like "So what do we do now?". We decided to go into the free-for-all arena. In the free for all arena, I accidently almost killed Stelercus cause I thought he was a Nveon. And then, we just.... left. My first ever in-game event with the community was a complete disaster. I need to go cry now. Cry Matt (t) 21:16, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

I don't suspect it was lack of communication that really caused the low turnout, though that certainly affected it. I predict rather that it was the simple fact that our community is relatively small. I doubt we would even have 95 active, willing players who could remember and be bothered to go, or even something close to that number. It's a problem we ran into when we fought RuneHQ and it's not really something we can do anything about. If we are really interested in having an evenly matched (numbers-wise, that is) fight, we should make a sign-up sheet for future matches or any other event, and request that the opposing site only provide a number closely comparable to ours. That wouldn't be much fun for them, having to decide whom to exclude, but I don't really see any other way to ensure a numbers-even fight. Aside from out smaller community, I imagine one of the primary reasons we had a small turnout with respect to our potential pool of users is what Gaz mentioned: it was F2P. Though I understand why we do it, I don't find F2P combat interesting at all. Once you hit a certain point in F2P, everyone is pretty much the same. We all have rune armor and no high-tier prayers, special attacks or potions. It's just not fun when quality is eliminated in favor of quantity and I, for my money, won't be going to any more F2P events. (wszx) 04:41, November 16, 2010 (UTC)

Got a proposal

Only approved fansites will be able to have the ability to fight with us, and there must be 3 months of planning ahead of time. English-speaking fansites. --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 15:01, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - This thread is to discuss how the war against Nveon went. Also restricting ourselves to only a few competitors is never a good idea, and 3 months of planning? That's just absurd, That's like buying christmas presents in August, you need to wonder if they will even still want the stuff by the time the event comes around. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 15:04, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Per what the Heathen god worshipper said - [Pharos] iPhone Edit 15:20, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I will break it down to the three points you mentioned. There is no reason to restrict ourselves to approved fansites, as this should be determined on a case-by-case basis. Three months of planning is overkill, as we can plan a Wikifest in one month if everyone cooperates. I tend to agree with the English-speaking part, as it's odd for two groups to have events if they can't even remotely understand each other. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 15:28, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

:D it's only a real wiki event when both sides are cursing and yelling in different languages and you can't even understand the English side due to 1337ification and fail typing skills. Then throw in some mis-communication from the leaders and a few noobs who think theyre in charge. <3 - [Pharos] iPhone Edit 15:41, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
Woah, have you run Wikifests, too? It's like you've read my mind. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 17:28, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Notice - I erased the three months of planning, but the english speaking part remains. Please recast your votes. --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 15:37, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

No. - It can and should still be determined on a case-by-case basis. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 17:29, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
I can't take you seriously Jeff. Start using your head and learn that being pro-English and anti-every-other-language isn't in the best interests of any community. Ryan PM 15:38, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Why shouldn't we be able to fight other fansites if they aren't English. This is absolutely stupid.   Swizz Talk   Events!   17:03, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Case by case ftw. bad_fetustalk 17:55, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - There's no legitimate reason to exclude every Non-English speaking site due to one incident, that's like blocking everyone with "1337" in their name due to one vandalizing the wiki. Also I had the urge to put this: thats_racist.gif Korasi's sword.png Archmage Elune  TalkHS Void knight deflector.png fetus is my son and I love him. 19:04, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

It has nothing to do with race or the people speaking the language, it's the fact that the language is not widely understood by people who use this wiki. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 22:01, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
