Forum:Notice to admins: Easier way of merging page histories
Hello, I'm completely abusing and misusing the YG here, but I need somewhere to announce this and with the sitenotice phasing out, it won't do. This can also exist as a forum for asking questions about the new feature, or other such things.
A few minutes ago, Special:MergeHistory was enabled here. This allows pages to be merged very easily; all you need to do is type in the name of the page going to be merged, and the page it should be merged into. Simple, huh? ajr 21:30, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
Comment - While I am glad that we now have this, I noticed on trac-wikia that it never mentioned files. Since this is probably the second wiki to use this (after Community Test) I don't really know what this will do. At first I thought this tool could be used more by than just sysops and staff, but alas it's not like merging history is needed often (by which the axe pages need to be merged with their hatchet counter part due to that previous April fools day). - This extension is a core element of MediaWiki, which requires enabling per group to use. Also, pages do get merged now and then around here... ajr 21:56, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
Strong oppose - This should have been left as a note on sysops' talk pages. There aren't that many sysops. Egregious misuse of YG. Oh, and I support the new extension since it offers us another method to merge pages. I like flexibility. --LiquidTalk 22:19, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
Comment - Just leave it up. Notifying EVERY admin talkpage is just too difficult and too annoying. Im not sure why anybody would mind this being here. Its not like we have any other noticeboards that are checked commonly enough. - [Pharos] 04:18, November 1, 2010 (UTC)
- We'd only have to leave a message on the active sysop talk pages. 04:21, November 1, 2010 (UTC)
