If you guys haven't seen already, there will be a new wiki navigation coming out on all wikis at some point in the near future. You can test it here. If you're too lazy to read the blog, the main changes are:

 • "On the Wiki" tab that will show a bunch of features like chat and random page. It will be uncustomizable, at least in the current form.
 • An extra level of navigation that allows a total of 280 links.

If you have any comments about the feature itself, leave them on the community blog and not here. I'm making this thread so we can plan out the structure of our new navigation. With the changes we can add a lot more useful pages, so this might take a while.

Any ideas? ʞooɔ 23:31, September 29, 2011 (UTC)

Edit - It turns out that if we use extra asterisks in the navigation we can add more links than the 4-7-10 that it was created for. ʞooɔ 04:32, October 1, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Maybe add the quest quick quides, portals, training guides? User:Exor Solieve 03:41, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

Fergie and I came up with this, which you can see by previewing it either here or here. We've run into a couple problems (like there being 11 TT guides and only 10 slots), but we can fix that with JavaScript or hope that Wikia adds more. ʞooɔ 04:45, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

Looks good, and I do have to agree with Fergie from the blog, that is one hell of a mouse maze. Maybe they'll let us edit MediaWiki:Wikia-navigation-global, maybe not. Would be good to have less of an eyesore be the first greeting from us. Personally, I don't want the possible "280" links maximum that version will hold. Already getting to the point of confusion Monaco had. Wouldn't mind being one of the test wikis for that though. Ryan PM 07:16, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
Revised slightly from yours Cook. Downside of having seven potential horizontal links is the width issue. So we'll have to sacrifice things like Grand Exchange to Trade Index and adding Contact Us below Help. I'll see what we can do momentarily (Firebug might not be reliable enough for this). I like the addition of a recent updates tab. I don't think we handle navigation to new content very well (bar search of course) and so I think this might help. --Henneyj 14:21, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Great, more changes. UGH. But we can use it to our advantage. Can't we add more options than just a view for guides, cities, etc.? User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 11:12, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

I like the idea of a portals section, with links to the main portals in it. ajr 17:23, September 30, 2011 (UTC)

Like I've been saying, we actually need to finish the portal project if we want to use portals. It's nowhere near done and no one works on them. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 20:07, September 30, 2011 (UTC)
Well, it's a cumulative decline; I once randomly stumbled across them, did quite a few edits, then realized how many were incomplete, and how difficult it was to access them (not linked to enough), and how few people actually were editing them, and pretty much gave up. I'd love to see them revitalized, but we'd need a community effort, not just a few people. Hofmic Talk 02:34, October 1, 2011 (UTC)
User:Chicken7#Projects Point 14. It's been there awhile. Some other people and I started, but it's hard without massive support. I think it's important that we put them in the header. They will be finished eventually. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 06:22, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I think the change to the navigation will be an improvement (still not Monaco, though Cry), since we have more room for navigation links, which we can really take advantage of, and it's about time that they actually released new content in the same "theme" of the wiki (colours, that is), rather than like the one-colour-only admin bar. I really dislike the fact that the "on the wiki" header cannot be customized (what on earth is there reasoning for that?). Hofmic Talk 02:34, October 1, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I was thinking that we could put the wiki forums on the nav bar in a last ditch attempt to 'resuscitate' it. I think 90% of our users are oblivious to its existence (I forgot about them completely until yesterday) and this would help. ɳex undique 13:40, October 2, 2011 (UTC)

It's in the current nav bar... sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 16:33, October 2, 2011 (UTC)
Well...I feel pretty stupid...ɳex undique 16:42, October 2, 2011 (UTC)
^-^ *hugs* S'ok. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 17:05, October 2, 2011 (UTC)

It hath arrived

So, does anyone have any complaints with how it currently looks? Does anyone have any suggestions for how it can be improved? --LiquidTalk 02:40, October 9, 2011 (UTC)

Under guides; skills, treasure trails, minigames, etc all have a number of sublinks, but skill training and money making does not... Why not expand on that? Hofmic Talk 05:41, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
It's incomplete. If you have ideas for particular sublinks, do tell. ʞooɔ 06:52, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
We have training and money making guides for every skill, just pick a few at random and put them in, just like the other sections (appear) to be. Hofmic Talk 15:36, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
Is there any way to turn the "Contribute" button back to "Recent Changes"? It's annoying having to click down the list to get to the recent changes page What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 16:25, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
No Ciph. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 23:29, October 9, 2011 (UTC)
You could add the RC to your toolbar. ɳex undique 03:12, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Minus having to change the XML of the importing (or before Wikia patches it) of the once non-editable Wikia-navigation-global message, I think we are fine now. Also, I don't suggest changing it often or again. Wikia probably isn't happy with me changing it to suit our needs. Ryan PM 15:16, October 10, 2011 (UTC)

Ryan you are awesome. For annoying Wikia, and finding a way of bypassing their measures. Smile 222 talk 05:24, October 11, 2011 (UTC)
Too bad it's gone now. What I'm taking from it is that if I break the Terms of Use again, they will exorcise me like they did to WoWWiki's old sysops. Time to make some small JavaScript file for the links now. By the way, I learned of the loophole from Zamorak who in-turn learned of it from some other users, but they didn't know how to get it functioning correctly. Oh well, worst case scenario is taking a tool no one but I ever used during this wiki's existence (Import). Ryan PM 18:47, October 11, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - It seems that fresh ideas aren't our strong point this time of year. --LiquidTalk 01:12, October 19, 2011 (UTC)
