Forum:New standards for shield equipped images
|“||Do something about equipped images of shields, most of them are crap. Consider taking them while the shields are sheathed, or some sort of a side-view. EoC changed how shields are held so the 3/4 view doesn't show them properly.||”|
This is a pretty clear request that we do something about shield images. So time to get opinions. Not doing anything is not an option!
- Replace current shield images with only the shield equipped, sheathed. Example
- Replace current shield images with only the shield equipped, side-on.Example
Please comment as to which you would prefer to be the new standard for shield equipped images.
Addendum: Susan pointed out that sometimes weapons are included in set images, such as [[:File:Zuriel's equipment equipped.png]] and File:Morrigan's armour equipped (male).png. Should we require a change to this also, due to the fact that it's not possible to get a good angle on both the weapon and the armour?
Comment - I would prefer the first option, back-sheathed shields.06:18, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
Comment - Not too supportive about sheathed shields. Not too sure about the "only the shield equipped" part though; you did the Primal kiteshield image which I would prefer if we're changing this. In a nutshell I say no to sheathed images. -- SpineTalk 06:24, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
- I'd prefer the shield only, tbh, no matter which angle is preferred. In that image, as an example, the shield seems to blend too much into the armour. 06:27, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
Support 2 - No sheathed images! Having shields with the set in an image is stupid, because the shield obscures the armour and the angle doesn't even show the shield. Just do side views of the shield and only the shield. Like File:Dragonfire shield equipped.png. 07:31, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
Support 2 - How exactly will we take an image of the shield sheathed? From the back? That's why we have DIIs. Side-ons are much better, and the shield separate is probably preferable so we don't have to worry about cutting anything out. Haidro 08:22, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
Support 2 - Sheathed looks ugly. --20:31, December 30, 2013 (UTC)
Support 2/Comment - I support number 2, and would also like to add that this should also apply to other things like weapons. Just check the Aurora armour page for what I mean. --Jlun2 (talk) 09:54, January 5, 2014 (UTC)
Comment addendum - weapons should never, imo, be included with armour sets, for the same reason that shields shouldn't; the 3/4 angle needed to show any decent amount of the weapon just looks bad.12:13, January 8, 2014 (UTC)
Comment addendum it depends on the armour I guess. [[:File:Virtus armour equipped.png]] looks great with the wand and book, although the same can't be said if we did it for death lotus including mainhand and offhand dart due to the feathering and such being cut off from the image. – Ozank Cx 12:42, January 8, 2014 (UTC)
Closed - Images of shields will now be separate, without any armour equipped. They will be taken with the shield unsheathed (by the player's side) and not sheathed (on the player's back). Regarding weapons, common sense should be used to whether armour can be included or not. As Ozzy pointed out, [[:File:Virtus armour equipped.png]] does look fine with both a weapon and a shield, but the weapon+shield should not be included if any gear is cut off in the image.
