This is just an idea, but take a look at this:

In most articles, the look of a set/weapon/etc being worn is placed on a random place in the article. With the look added to the Bonus infobox, the article should look bit less messy.

I already tried some coding, but it didn't work, I'm sure a more experienced user can fix it. (here)

Any suggestions? Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 12:09, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I've been sorting out image placement in a lot of articles. This is my method:

|{{Infobox Bonuses
|astab=... etc
|[[File:<imagename>|frame (or thumb for larger images)|A players wearing/wielding <item>.]]

I add extra cells if it is a weapon with a special attack, or looks different between genders or whatever.

It could be added to the infobox, and could work well. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 12:25, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I like it. The image could be a little smaller, but it's very trivial. Zaros symbol.pngChaos Monk Talk SignCoins 250.png 23:04, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Mmk, I've had go. I have two versions - one like Hapi's image above, and one like my method. The Abyssal whip's bonuses.

  Overall HS

The images are fully customisable in the normal ways. Problems arise in the second (Hapi's) when you wish to use more than one image, see here for examples. See below. Yes/no/improvements/suggestions/pie? Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 22:26, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

  • Support/comment - I prefer Hapi's method in one larger more organized bonus box. I also think that things like the character just holding the whip as an animation is unnecessary, any image of the whip can be summed up with a single animation/picture, and the special attack animation can be seen on the special attacks page. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 23:22, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Not all special attack animations are on the page; it would cause huge lag on lower end machines. Though I do agree that the holding whip animation is over-the-top (unneeded under the awaiting-consensus media policy, I believe). Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 23:32, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
It still makes sense though, I know because Runescape is a browser game animations may be really cool to some people, but just because it has an animation doesn't mean it gets an image anywhere aside from its default to show what it looks like. Notice how the official kb rarely if ever uses animations. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 00:30, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support - I like the original look. This would work for most items and the few that have more than one image could place that image somewhere else on the page. This would be a big improvement in standardizing the look of all the equipment pages. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 03:25, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support - I prefer Hapi's way. I think it looks better and more classy. With the thumbnail way you can't tell that it is connected, and you sorta lose the effect.--Joe Click Here for Awesomeness 12:38, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support Gaz's method, allows for multiple images. ShinyUnown T | C | E 13:19, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support - I like Gaz's idea of another picture of the special attack, if needed. But otherwise everything looks good. ~MuzTalk 15:23, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Comment - Hmm, my idea was to only add the look of the item in the Infobox, not áll images found in that article... animations can be placed outside the box, perhaps under the Item Infobox. Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 11:03, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
And Gaz's idea is already used in all articles, right...? Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 11:04, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Not sure about anyone else, but I've been moving the images around (using code above as a basis) to most pages I come across where the image is in an odd place (usually positioned beneath the item infobox, which I think looks bad, especially on smaller pages). Generally if the wielding image is in an odd place, so is the special attack animation so I put them together next to the infobox. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support - Both are good, but I like Hapi's a bit more.  Tien  14:15, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support Gaz's - The image in chart height in Hapi's is completely dependable on the height and width of the image. I think there should be a uniform size of the image then in all charts for this to work appropriately, therefore I have to support Gaz's idea. 15:18, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Remember that the images are all customisable in the standard ways, so you can specify a value of image size (e.g. 200px) to get the image to fit the infobox better. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support - I am going to have to go with Hapi, it is much more uniform. However, I would like to see it be optional. Otherwise, I feel it being laggy. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 22:52, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I managed to work out the kinks with multiple images in Hapi's (see here; note the size differences between the images is more down to image parameters I've set rather than the template setting them). The side effect of this is that instead of being relatively sized (I believe the entire infobox would normally be about 20-30% of the article width), it is now absolutely sized (to 180px); if that causes problems let me know (both have been changed in this way).

I also added a few features of it, so that if:

  • image= is not defined or is blank, Category:Needs image placement is added (not yet created, opinions on name?) and no extra cell is created (in Hapi's) - this allows easier finding of items where the template has not been updated.
  • image=no causes no category to be added and no extra cell is created (in Hapi's) - mainly for things with bonuses but not visible when worn like rings and ranged ammunition.
  • image=needed adds Category:Needs image and a message with a link to Special:Upload (much like other infoboxes).
  • image= anything else it is formatted as standard wikitext (the idea being to put an image there, but you could put whatever). Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:20, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Comment - That's perfect! Fairly easy to use, I look forward to update all Bonus Infoboxes in... all articles Wink Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 16:43, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Support - This is a great idea! Very helpful if I need to see bonuses of different items in one place. Skull.pngDiaruga001Ancient talisman.png

Support - What a lovely idea! Some one should have thought of this before. I like Hapi's design better.--S•h•o•b•y•4 (TalkEditsContribsRuneScape Stories Wiki) 03:57, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I created [[:Category:Needs image placement|the category]], since no one seems opposed to it.

Kinda hard to close it, what with there being no clear consensus on which style to use... here's a few variations on Hapi's style:

Personally I prefer my version mainly as in Hapi's I think the image frame looks ugly with the table border, and the manual caption is only suitable for one image. So I guess the main questions are:

  • Which do you think looks better? (Hard to make a decision on this alone)
  • And, is it better to have one image by the infobox or a few (if applicable, e.g. male/female differences, spec attack(s), etc)?

Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:34, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I prefer Hapi's with manually made caption, and just 1 image in the box, not specs etc. Miasmic Blitz icon.png Hapi007 Talk! Sign! . 10:13, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Manually made caption - This one looks much cleaner to me, the other one has too many unnecessary borders that just look messy. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 19:05, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Manually made caption - Per all above. Much cleaner. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 22:09, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Manually made caption - Definitely, cleaner, and as Tollerach said, too many borders, it's just a clutter of lines. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 03:06, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Manually made caption - Looks better. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 07:55, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
