With the ability of the Orb of Oculus to take images of an NPC/scenery object/item "close up", I was wondering if the Wiki would benefit from replacing older NPC images with those taken with the Orb itself. As an example of what I'm proposing so that everyone can see the possible advantages of such an idea, I've placed the current Wiki image of the Hairdresser below along with an image of the Hairdresser that I took with the Orb of Oculus...

As you can see, there is an increase of picture quality and detail in the picture taken using the Orb of Oculus when compared to the current image used by the Wiki. The only problems I can think of with using the Orb of Oculus for NPC images would be the time spent learning how to operate it (which, with the simple controls, isn't very long) and the fact that some NPCs would be harder to take an image of than others (Kalphite Queen or King Black Dragon, anyone?). What do y'all think about this idea? [1] N7 Elite (Ready to talk now?) 00:37, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Maybe make a Wikiguild for this task? I think these will benefit the wiki a lot. scoot4.pngscooties 00:41, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support Scoot's idea - create a wikiguild? --Iiii I I I 00:43, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Actually compare the two images. The only difference is that the orb one is bigger and has a larger filesize. Furthermore, we shouldn't mass-upload images unless an update to the detail has been made. The orb does not increase actual detail, it just allows zoom. LETDBucket detail.pngrwojy 00:44, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Err... zooming in allows more detail, doesn't it? I know if you zoom in the graphics don't refine themselves, but if we take a screenshot from far out, the picture doesn't record those tiny little details. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 05:05, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Slight support - While it may be hard to take a detailed screenshot using the Orb of Oculus, there's also a zoom feature on Mozilla Firefox (I don't know about IE, never used it in a year) which pressing will zoom in the game. Don't go over 600% or the game will crash. (Posting an image comparison later) Fishing.png NnK Oliver (600613) talk 00:45, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Ctrl-+ or Ctrl--. There is also a submenu under the "View menu". Chicken7 >talk 04:04, February 4, 2010 (UTC)
I've tried that before asking the question, all it does it zoom in on the RuneScape toolbar. The game applet doesn't change at all. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 04:06, February 4, 2010 (UTC)

I don't understand how you guys are doing this... when I press ctrl++ it does nothing but zoom in on the RuneScape toolbar, as I said above.. >_< I'd really like to know what the problem is.. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 03:46, February 6, 2010 (UTC)

Support- Jd Partytime has created beautiful images that were much better than their predecessors through angling and distance such as Rat.PNG and Duck.PNG. Just look at the difference! Best Shield EVERAnnaLove scarves! 01:21, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

WOW! Those images are absolutely amazing! Those images could be very good candidates for featured images (especially the duck). Even more reason why we should use the Orb of Oculus. Look at the difference on the rat and duck, and tell me the Orb doesn't improve the quality. (I modified the links in the preceding comment to show where they point, hope that's okay). Support - The Hairdresser is not a great display of how the image quality can be increased through using the orb, but the images shown by Yanghan are great. I support the idea of a wikiguild. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 01:33, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Soon, I am going to get to work on getting location screenshots too, as now we can get screenies without players, but also high in the air, close up, etc. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 05:05, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I usually use this wiki as a reference for things ingame that I'm too lazy to check out. My concern is that your idea is gonna need a lot of editors because there are thousands of articles on this wiki. Green marionette.png Airblade86 Talk HS 05:09, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

I think we should use the O³ for anything where it's a better image. I think the... um... thing in the observatory with the planets (I'm tired, okay?) would probably be interesting to look at in higher detail. Imagine getting a shot of the Kalphite Queen attacking another player, from that player's point of view. If we use the Ozone (O3... it makes sense when you're tired), we will be getting featured image-class images left and right (and above and below, too). Support - Better to use the better images from the orb that are just better. The OOO is going to help our image quality go up quite a bit I think. Air rune.png Tollerach hates SoF Fire rune.png 08:46, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Previously, these pictures would take ages to do (as NPC's move far too fast much of the time to get a decent sized picture) and would require much more patience to obtain. However, I took :File:Soul Wars Red cape.png|this without the Orb in 1900x1280 (1400?) to obtain the larger cape images, I feel those are the biggest a cape should be pictured and any larger would just skew the details of the image. Weak Support - I do not think that all of the pictures in the Wiki need to be retaken with the Orb. I see the only benefit is that it has increased detail. Currently most of the current pictures have plenty of detail to see everything that you want, and so retaking them with the Orb is, in my eyes, pointless. I do, however, think that new pictures should be taken with the Orb if other means of taking pictures produce a low quality picture. In addition, the current pictures with poor quality should be replaces with better quality ones, wether it is without the Orb or not. --Knight5hadow 11:52, February 6, 2010 (UTC)

Support The image quality for sme images is vastly improved. The Orb is a brand new tool in RS, and has lots of uses that are just beginning to be explored. Not every image will benefit from being "orbbed" (?) but a good chunk of them will. Remember that these decisions can't be made in a vacuum, either. Other fansites sell advertising based on the quality of their content as well, and images often form an essential part of skill guides, quest guides, and other articles. (And admit it to yourself, even you are impressed by the "OMG!" factor.) 8-) TheLastWordSword 14:47, February 6, 2010 (UTC)
