Talk page discussion

I think columns for input and output coins should be added the table on Money making guide in order to see which methods are most feasible for readers according to their current available wealth.

For example, a method like cleaning grimy harralander looks like it be lucrative at 26m per hour. But after seeing it requires 84m in initial investment for just an hour, it's not very effective for someone who only has a fraction of that, and is sort of misleading in that respect.

With input and output columns, readers can see at a glance that this method is most effective with a large initial investment, and can find methods that suit them more easily.

This could also be possible without an output column, using only an input column.

Comment - I do like the idea of accurately representing money making guides as they are for newer players/players that don't have full requirements whether that is for people with less gp or otherwise. Would the best method for this be an inclusion of an input variable or possibly adding a calculated value regarding percentage profit off of initial investment? Either or I feel like something could be done. Hazelmere's signet ring.pngRobbotRSOrlando Smith's hat.png 22:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Something like "Initial investment" alongside a consumable input per hour may actually also be a better idea. For something like killing Araxxi, the 2.6m input in consumables doesn't really accurately reflect the minimum initial investment of 194m in weapons and gear. Comment - I understand and like the general idea, just not sure on a good way to implement it that makes sense, is clear and easy to use. It would also work best with filters, which is something I think the page could really use. minimum initial investment of 194m in weapons and gear this is true (with more or less cost) for any pvm money making guide and I think between the name of the mmg, suggested skill level and category (eg combat/high) that should be clear enough. Comment - In regards to "possibly misleading" figures. Maybe their should either be a a more visible warning stating that some figures are based on these hourly figures at maximum efficiency. Also, perhaps it's worth investigating if a per action profitability is a better representation. Following your harralander example, it would roughly 210gp profit per action, and then on the actual mmg page it can have the maximums based on efficiency? -Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 23:12, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

This request for closure is complete A user has requested closure for Money making guides: Add input and output columns. Request complete. The reason given was: No further discussion for the last 10 days. There is not consensus to make any drastic changes to the way that MMG guides are handled. Perhaps additional columns that include start up costs could be implemented per RS:BB.

Closed - there is agreement that it can be problematic for users if a guide requires a large amount of start up cash which isn't obvious until they navigate into the guide. However there is not consensus that the proposed addition should be implemented and it is not clear how some cases, such as gear in PVM guides, would be handled. If a good solution could be identified this change is something that could be implemented without having to go through a formal discussion.
