I want to add a sub-section about file names for maps to RS:IMG to formalise what I have been going with for map names lately:

  • [[File:<Thing> location.png]] for maps showing something's location (marked with a blue square).
    • [[File:<Place name> entrance(s) location(s).png]] for the location of dungeon entrances etc.
  • [[File:<Place name> map.png]] for all other maps (e.g. unmarked maps, File:Varrock map.png, and dungeon maps, File:God Wars Dungeon map.png).

Support naming, but User:Lmnt was working on a template that would make standardizing File:_ location.png redundant. [[Template:CoordinateMap]] overlays a CSS square at a user-defined coordinate on top of the world map, which removes the need for creating/maintaining individual location images (if he ever comes back to finish it). --Iiii I I I 23:19, December 16, 2016 (UTC)

Support - I'm surprised this wasn't a formal thing already Star Talk ayy lmao ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 09:34, December 17, 2016 (UTC)

Question - Would the maps for mines and mining sites need to be adjusted? Or being already named for what they are do they already meet your standards? (I mean that in the most positive way possible) Degenret01 (talk) 13:25, December 17, 2016 (UTC)

Looking at the file names on mines and mining sites I do think they could do with standardising - ideally they would match up with how the mine's page name is formatted spacing/capitalisation/spelling wise as well as using either location/map consistently. The second part is more to do with how the images themselves are not consistent - some use the location type format and others look more just like a plain map. I think it would be helpful to have them marked up like dungeon maps with symbols for where the rocks are. With Mining rework upcoming I'm not planning on doing that now though, and I wouldn't bother with renaming the files without fixing the files. Waiting until after the update makes much sense. Hopefully I will be able to assist with that as I did when that table was first made. It was quite a horrible mess before we managed to come up with that. Degenret01 (talk) 16:36, December 17, 2016 (UTC)
I would be lying if I said it was easy to make maps this way, but if you want to help that would be great :) If you're interested List of dungeons could do with some updating - I think pretty much all things in has an individual page with a map but the actual list isn't complete. Closed - There's no opposition to the naming I proposed so I'll go ahead and add these standards to RS:IMG#Image name. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelJTalk page 20:03, January 3, 2017 (UTC)
