Hi all. Today, we gained access to quite a few new attributes regarding monsters. I've changed Template:Infobox Monster to reflect the new info we've obtained and as I did, I felt the template was getting too large. I spent a short time working on a rough prototype for a new, compact infobox. Hopefully you agree with this deserving a more compressed look and can provide feedback on how to improve what I've started. I am not a master of aesthetics or wikitable coding, but the way I have it set up in the linked diff is a good estimate of how I'd like it to look within my abilities with tables.

Yes, I realize this could seem more appropriate on its talk page, but admit it: it'd get little discussion. Also, we've discussed stuff of this nature here before.

Discussion

I am proud of myself. Could be better, but nonetheless I support some sort of change to its looks. MolMan 18:17, February 18, 2013 (UTC)

Question - How come the boxes under Combat Stats are separated off-centered? Like the line is on the left side. Can you put it in the middle? <.< sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 20:07, February 18, 2013 (UTC)

Because I suck at wikitables. MolMan 20:08, February 18, 2013 (UTC)
Well that's okay. But it should be in the middle. *Nods* sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 20:10, February 18, 2013 (UTC)
Okay I think I found the problem, and with that update my prototype: here. It's slightly odder than the other prototype, but I think the ability to freely collapse that info might be prove useful in reducing clutter. Not sure and I can't really argue for it. It makes the box expand and shrink, but that's easily fixed by someone who knows what they're doing. I also wanted to throw out there the idea of keeping the same colors as before for the nested table, but I personally prefer the colors of the original prototype I provided and the format of the one linked earlier in this text wall. MolMan 20:35, February 18, 2013 (UTC)
The Attack box is bigger than the rest on its row. ._. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 01:39, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
Idk, it's a metaphor. Let's go with that. MolMan 01:42, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

Ummm, Ranged is actually 2.8% bigger when you measure it. Defence and Magic are the same size. MolMan 01:48, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
So why are they different?? You're proposing a new change to the infobox, and I'm providing feedback for this change, so please fix it up or find someone who can. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 01:50, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
ERMAGERBLE! The nitpicky technicalities. I'd appreciate getting feedback on the general look and organisation of it first before delving into the infinitesimally minute details. MolMan 01:55, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
Oh it looks mkay. ^-^ sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 01:56, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - Has anyone thought about what this will look like on a page? Expanded it cuts into almost half the page width, and we weren't blessed with a whole lot to begin with. The stats definitely need to be collapsed by default, no question about it. cqm 00:28, 19 Feb 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

Or we start looking into redesigning infoboxes into infobars (that stretch the full width of the page but take up less vertical space) cqm 00:32, 19 Feb 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
Believe it or not, that expanded table is smaller than what we have now. MolMan 01:06, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
I've made a version that takes 100% width, and splits the combat stats, immunities and other into seperate boxes, if you only need the stats, it won't expand all the stuff. The problem with a 100% width version is that you might have to scroll down to start reading. (100% width version) There also seems to be a problem when expanding a table it affects it's width. I'd rather not resort to that just yet, especially since Cåm was slightly misguided in his width issues. He should learn to use Oasis, it's the skin of our constituents. MolMan 01:36, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
Gyaw that's huge. Do note that IPs see half of what users who have the side rail blocked see. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 01:39, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
I've been checking it on private mode, would indeed be better to stay with the side version, but I would consider splitting the collapsible table in 3 seperate ones. Dragon pickaxe.png Thojohn22 Talk HS Dragon pickaxe.png 01:44, February 19, 2013 (UTC)
I squirrelfully find that uglier, more out of place, and more disorganized. MolMan 02:05, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - The Bestiary is missing lots of monsters, so a lot of pages will have missing stats. Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 10:19, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

Missing stats? Oh no, our obsolesce will remain stagnant. </satire> My assumption is that Jagex has not completed the bestiary (I understand it only works for Chrome as of now?). Either way, we have the stats for some, so we should use 'em. Even if we didn't I still have thought the infobox was generally too list-esque and disorganized; this was the straw that broke the pony's back. MolMan 19:38, February 19, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - Here's an idea of how our readers will see it using my preferred prototype. MolMan 01:03, February 20, 2013 (UTC)

That looks good to me, nice job Dragon pickaxe.png Thojohn22 Talk HS Dragon pickaxe.png 09:51, February 20, 2013 (UTC)

Support - I think it looks good. It's probably good to make things a bit organised, and this helps. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 21:29, February 22, 2013 (UTC)

Never mind, made a mistake with the templates. Ignore dis. Blaze_fire.png12.png 17:26, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

Support - It really is too long atm. Perhaps we could delete the slayer level + xp parameters, as these can easily be stated in the article's introduction? User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 17:20, March 11, 2013 (UTC)

Support - It looks great, although we should probably move 'Weakness' to the always-toggled-on box, giving that space to 'Attack style'. Alchez 11:53, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

I don't see why. They also don't really need the space. They're given the same amount of space in my favorite prototype as they are now and it's a perfectly fine amount. MolMan 22:00, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
