So, I'm trying to develop some kind of relationship for us and I apologize for going ahead with the asking before seeking community approval but I mentioned on Jagex's twitter that we are hosting an event on RuneScape and they responded! Maybe this can be a start of something good? Lets make this wikifest awesome!!!

Cool - I think this might be the start for a potential relationship if J-Mods attend the event.I think we really need to all make an effort to be there to represent our community to it's best potential.

Yes, it could be nice, but can we handle the extra attendees? The most recent WikiFests were poor in organization, handling, and in their follow through. This could very well make it a messily messy mess if everyone and their brother who saw the Twit/Tweet/whatever decided to come. Dragon medium helm! Which is why this wikifest must work. The schedule is the schedule, and no one changes that. The fest mods are the fest mods and no one changes that. That is how it must work and that is how it must only work. 01:28, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
We would need more organization. I remember last time when I was reading the summary...Err...Chia led some people to Draynor and started spamming. >.> I just hope this works. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 01:30, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Wikifests should be fun for all wikians and a recruitment drive for new wikians(without actually trying to recruit). Lets hope something happens with this. =D - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 01:33, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

This sounds great! I am pretty sure jagex is interested in developing a relation with this site already, now is a chance to develop that relation if the community should choose to do so. RandoxTalk 01:36, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Did I tell you or did I tell you? If I haven't told you, I'll tell you again: The twitter account could be very valuable for a Jagex-us relationship! Fweeheehee. 01:57, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and we really need to find out who owns @RSWiki. Could someone ask who owns it on the sitenotice or something? 02:09, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I just noticed in the @rswiki background it appears a user named Shamushand is logged in, so I've asked the [[User:ShamusHand|ShamusHand]] here if they are the same person that owns @rswiki. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 03:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
Ooooo, good catch. 03:12, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I think it's great that Jagex responded and announced it but I'm worried about the organization.. Andrew talk 04:22, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - So are we proposing to allow Jagex to advertise the Wikifest? If yes, I vote Oppose. It's called a Wikifest for a reason. I don't mind Jagex mods coming (by all means let them) but I really don't want them to start advertising it on Twitter. ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  06:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

They said they will announce it one hour before the wikifest commence, just to clear things up. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 06:08, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - First of all why...the normal wikifest is to gather wikians together and have fun, NOT to be a popularity contest so why invite them. To be honest it doesn't really do anything plus twitter has very few users compared to facebook. If the wikifest's start to involve more people we don't know (people who have not made an acc on wiki) then very high chances most of us wouldn't come. Kabish. There's nothing to Oppose, this isn't a proposal, the deed is done... --— Enigma 10:24, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment Jmods advertise a lot of events on their Twitter. It doesnt mean that Jmods will be attending or thousands of randoms will be there. If anyhting this is the start of building a relationship and should be supported. --Gold ore.png Mercifull UK serv.svg (Talk) 09:39, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Support per Mercifull. ShinyUnown T | C | E 11:08, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

What is it with people opposing/supporting? Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 14:33, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikifest is going to suck more than usual now, with all of the people who don't know our rules. Good thing I don't attend them anyway, because seeing 200+ people who we don't know and are just there expecting a drop party isn't my idea of an improvement. Plus, we can't even recruit new editors without our accounts getting banned for advertisement. 14:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
People are likely to see "RuneScape Wiki" and look it up themselves without us directly mentioning it. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 15:43, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - There is no support/opposing. It is just a topic to tell us that Jagex will announce our wikifest. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 15:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - Sounds... good, I suppose. :P I don't really attend the wikifests either (and I'm unable to come to this one anyway), but knowing that Jagex mods haven't ignored the wiki is always nice. And as an additional comment, I don't like how Jagex is using social networking sites like Twitter to give hints about upcoming updates. Nothing to do with the wikifest; I'm just saying.  Tien  16:24, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I think someone tried to clarify this wont be posted until an hour before the fest. That means you looking at maybe 100 extra people, and I think thats a pretty generous estimate. How many people are going to see the twiter in the 1 hour time frame and be able to (or want to) go? Probably not many, so don't worry about it too much. RandoxTalk 22:42, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Should we ask them not to announce the 'Fest at all?

I vote Support. Even if it is around an hour before the Wikifest, there will still be a large amount of non wikians who do not know or care about our rules randomly turning up. Who knows, maybe someone with an autotalker will show up to spam and crash the party? If Jagex is announcing it on Twitter, I'm sure the Wikifest will be one of the worst yet. ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  06:19, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - I wish there was a way to express both facepalm and a pistol shot to the foot in one word. Cap and goggles.pngTEbuddy 06:31, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Support - I would really want to enjoy a fest without random people. Runecrafting.gif Mo 55 55 Talk|Sign 09:51, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - If anything it will help us grow. We have a few p mods that can mute autotalkers and spammers. Even if very slim, a J Mod could possibly attend which is something we don't want to lose. Almost any step closer to a relationship with Jagex is better. If we can stay organized the wikifest should be fine(yes, I know we never are, but we can hope for this time) and we have the ranked in clan chat able to kick. With or without the announcement I think this will be the biggest yet. - TehKittyCatTalk Wikian-Book 10:19, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - Wikifests are always out of control. FredeTalk 10:24, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Thats a fault of the wikifest organisers and management rather than because of any Jagex involvement. --Gold ore.png Mercifull UK serv.svg (Talk) 10:34, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Sigh - Next time, please tell us first, Bonzi. -_- ~ Fire Surge icon.png Sentry Telos Talk  06:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Organizational Move to Exclude Consensus on Decisions

Okay, we need to clarify some things and post them on the main page A.S.A.P. so there is no confusion on how this event is to be running.

  • Who is hiding in the hide and seek?
  • What each event details. - Like, what are we doing for the raid (what is that exactly), What the race in Varrock includes, Who is hiding where and when...Come on guys! What's on this page is horrible. Nothing is described and no one will know what they are doing. I really didn't want to get involved into the planning of this fest as I did the last one and am going to do the next one, but I can if you guys want.

We really need to make this work, especially if Jagex is advocating it. I move to quickly detail the races and choose users to hide in hide and seek and to make any and all necessary changes to make this work effectively and smoothly. I want to know these details by the end of tonight and if you guys will let me and I will tweak this so it can work as effective as possible at this present time. Do I have permission to make these changes or additions as needed to make this work?

This is going to include changing times on a few events. The time allotted for a meet and greet is not sufficient and the time allotted for the costume competition is not enough, 20 minutes....? For 100+ users to be judged. I can make this work but I will totally need to rework the schedule as well. I won't change the start times but I'm going to try and re-organize this so it is semi-possible. I didn't look at the lack of organization into this fest before I asked so now that I have I want it to work well. 13:38, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Placing this on site notice might garner more attention and help :) Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 13:43, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually, as I am still at work I won't be able to see this thread until later tonight, but I will look at the consensus on this part and make the changes need be by the end of today. If you want to put this little blurb in the site notice you can Powers. 13:52, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Bonzi, your head of it so you should do something also, me and the rest of the fest mods will help you. Lets get starting... Runecrafting.gif Mo 55 55 Talk|Sign 13:57, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't head of it though, that is the area I am concerned with. My name was just placed there which is the point of this discussion here, me asking for permission to change some things. 16:44, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
@Bonzi: I'm not one to speak for the entire community, but please make any changes that are necessary for the Wikifest to be as good as it can be. Sometimes you have to ignore all the red tape to get things done. I think that the discussion would drag on if you continue waiting for people to speak up when the time could be better spent. C.ChiamTalk 02:40, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Alright, I have made the changes I feel necessary to make this work. Thanks guys and I look forward to seeing you there!
