Following Wikipedia's manual of style of italicising titles (i.e. Movie titles, Books, etc.), I think we should italicise quests, miniquests, books in RuneScape. Films, video games, musicals, TV series, and other titles found in the Trivia section should follow this style.   az talk   09:39, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

According to Wikipedia's MoS,

Italics should be used for:

  • Scientific names for genera or species
  • Titles of the following:
    • Art exhibitions
    • Books
    • Comic strips and webcomics
    • Computer and video games
    • Court cases
    • Films
    • Long or epic poems
    • Multi-episode television serials
    • Musical albums
    • Musicals
    • Named trains and locomotives
    • Orchestral works
    • Paintings, sculptures and other works of visual art
    • Periodicals (newspapers, journals, and magazines)
    • Plays
    • Ships
    • Ship class
    • Television series

Abbreviations of the above should also be italicized. If the title is also a link, you should usually place the italic markup outside the brackets.

Oppose - Right now italics function to show the difference between member and non-member content in several places. I think this is an important use for italics that is specific to our wiki. I think our users would be better served if italics is used for members content as opposed to having a this more formal style that is proposed. Comment - I've seen several occurances where "(m)" is used to indicate member content. This might be a better way to differentiate member and non-member content.   az talk   08:11, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Comment on the comment - I agree with Az there, having member's content italicised is hardly intuitive - If I was a new wiki user/reader I wouldn't automatically know that that is what the italics mean. I think (m) [or even (m) as a compromise] is a better way of distinguishing between the content types. Dechaineux Talk 09:41, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Support - Unless there is another use for the italics (barring the members/non-members content) I don't think this proposal can hurt. It still might, however, be necessary or helpful to specify that a quest is in fact a quest in cases such as (for eg.) Black Knights' Fortress which can refer to both a place and a quest. I know that this is in part what the proposal is designed to do - but spelling it out directly will eliminate any confusion. Dechaineux Talk 09:41, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - this is just much ado about nothing. Its not exactly that important, when to use italics. And anyway, as Dtm would say, this is a wiki, not wikipedia.Joe Click Here for Awesomeness15:16, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Comment- This ain't wikipedia, but, heck, we even have [[%s|the same random redirect to the mainpage]] as wikipedia! 02:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Support- It seems grammatically correct in way, that I can't explain, but, say, if I was speaking about a Quest, I'd more than likely make it sound as if it was italicised in text. 02:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Oppose - Italics should be reserved for things with, for example, proper titles, and the only thing that qualifies as a proper title would be RuneScape. (This is based on MLA/APA formatting regulations). Using it as proposed means the wiki would start to look ugly and fast. Italicized words are typically more difficult to read. If everything seemed to need italics, the wiki would just become harder to read. Do you see what I mean? -Byte_Master bytesig2.png bytesig3.png 03:19, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Comment - I'm only proposing the italics for quests, miniquests and books. How often do you see that in a text?   az talk   06:06, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Somewhat Support - I think that quests and miniquests should be in italics but not for books Player moderator crown.png Poppop24 Skillcape emote icon.png
