'''Oppose''' - A header just makes the page longer without adding anything, the Combat Stats link already does the job of separating the text from the infobox. While having on the table of contents would be nice, said template is always on the top of the page most of the time anyway. {{User:TheKunst/Signature}} 14:58, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Forums: Yew Grove > Infobox Bonuses header

After looking through several equipable item pages it appears to me that the intro sections look a little untidy due to the Infobox Bonuses template not sitting under a header.

I propose that we add a header above all usages of the infobox to tidy the pages up. We use headers for other templates on various pages so why not this one?

Here is a before and after view of the proposed change.

Discussion[edit source]

Support/Comments - As for untidiness I have no real opinion, but I do like the idea of better integrating the Table of Contents (as well as forcing it to the top of the page), and proper header use accomplishes this. However, I have two comments to keep in mind for implementation.

  1. The Combat Stats hyperlink is now redundant with the header, but removal results in the loss of a (valuable?) hyperlink.
  2. The header can't part of the template, and has to be done individually on each page. This is because not every page will include the infobox at Header Level 2, and some pages may use multiple infoboxes resulting in duplicate headers (and a broken ToC)

I agree it looks messy, but our current setup makes it a little bit faster for readers to find the information they're looking for. Putting Infobox Bonuses in its own section means that it will be pushed further down the page and potentially off-screen (old, new) on the small percentage of articles that have a table of contents automatically added. Support - we do this on rsc wiki and it is very nice Star Talk ayy lmao ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) 23:15, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Support - change looks fine. Smithing.pngAescopalus talkCrafting.png 02:39, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Oppose - it doesn't look any more tidy with the new template, maybe just look more 'right' because infobox should be right at the top. The little to none aesthetic value along with 0 function added to the pages does not justify all the work needed to change it, although if there was a much easier way to change all the pages then it might be. Still this would be a much lower priority change and time spend to figure out how to do it efficiently might be better spent on other projects. Velhart2 (talk) 23:59, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

I suspect the total amount of work needed to do it would be on the order of 10 minutes to write a find-and-replace bot. Whether we decide for or against the headers, being consistent about the headers seems like an unambiguously good thing, and since we're already about 50/50 on having it or not, it would be the same small amount of (automated) work to set it either way. ʞooɔ 17:35, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
I disagree that "consistency" in infoboxes having headers is what we want here. And as 1 + 3i said, adding a header can push it off-screen which is undesirable as mentioned before. If you want to be "consistent", I wouldn't mind having a more general rule of not having headers for infoboxes at the top of the page and having them for the rest. bad_fetustalk 18:02, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
I think you've misunderstood. I was appealing for either consistently having, or consistently not having headers. I am not taking a position on the proposal, as the rest of my comment makes clear. ʞooɔ 04:13, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Do you mean consistently having headers for this infobox specifically and not similar infoboxes in general then? I thought you meant the latter. I agree if you mean the former, though I'd have thought that's obvious. bad_fetustalk 20:58, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Oppose - Per my response to Cook above. bad_fetustalk 18:02, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Support - Does make the pages look cleaner and helps separate prose from non-prose. As for the redundancy pointed out by Theta... I can't think of a better place to link to Combat stats at this time. -Legaia2Pla · ʟ · 23:34, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Comment - Keep in mind that doing this makes it collapse into it's own section on mobile. This may or may not be desirable. - Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 10:06, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
