Forum:Improving our information on future content
I am proposing we get rid of some of our pages which have historically been used to write about future content:
As you can see these pages are not really being used; most of the information on them is at least a couple of years old. They are not suited to how Jagex are now releasing information about future updates: Jagex are much more open about new content and there are few vague hints and unintended leaks that have to be interpreted on these pages. My suggestion is that we move any notable historical information from these pages to trivia/history sections of relevant articles and then delete the pages.
In future I’d like to see information about upcoming content being added to upcoming updates when the update is not significant enough to have its own page/not enough information to create an article yet, with this page also being used as a place to list all planned future content. When we have more information about an update and/or knowledge of what the content will be called then the information can be moved to a dedicated article. I think this would make it much easier for readers to find information about future content on the wiki, as well as making it easier for editors to maintain the pages.
I made this thread to get opinions on whether we should delete these pages or not and see what information (if any) people think is worth keeping from them. I would also like to know if there are any other ideas on how to improve how we write about future updates on the wiki. Thanks,18:54, March 30, 2016 (UTC)
Support - But only because you said "thanks" at the end.10:20, March 31, 2016 (UTC)
Blob - Unannounced phenomena can still occur (e.g. Burgh de Rott abductions are arguably suitable for the page), and Leaks and update hints, while mostly historical, have value and are conceivably interesting to read (also have fun moving all twitter hints to trivia). I'd be okay with getting rid of the in-game update hints subpage, as it's poorly maintained and looks sort of bad. Upcoming updates definitely needs more attention, but I wouldn't delete these pages we have now.16:36, March 31, 2016 (UTC)
Support - Archive Update Hints or link it to the Behind the Scenes? Sort of one of the generic/meta game concepts? Move Leaked info to the various pages as a piece of Trivia? --Deltaslug (talk) 20:53, March 31, 2016 (UTC)
Support - Most info on the "leaked" page isn't actually leaked, anyway. It's announced. Trivia on various pages is probably not appropriate, either. Maybe a consolidated page called "Future updates," if anything. People are still going to try to put it somewhere on the wiki. Remove items as they are released or canceled. --Saftzie (talk) 23:58, March 31, 2016 (UTC)
Support - Support mostly, besides the unannounced phenomena page. I feel like that's a slightly different case, and could either be kept, or have the content moved elsewhere? No suggestions for improving how to write about upcoming updates, you've done a good job of updating it08:39, April 1, 2016 (UTC)
Support - One problem I see however, is that chances are only 1 person will add updates to Upcoming updates, and when said person leaves or goes inactive, that page goes dead as well. --Jlun2 (talk) 12:33, April 6, 2016 (UTC)
- Is there a way to track the amount of traffic to Upcoming updates? While it is a relevant news page, your concern is also valid. if If the number of people visiting it is low ... then the question is moot, and add it to the list to remove anyways. In addition, content like: quests, items, events have pages created anyways. AND you have the RS news pages linked on the RS Wikia front page. --Deltaslug (talk) 21:31, April 6, 2016 (UTC)
