Forum:IRC manager for User:Gaz Lloyd
Gareth has had the manager flags in the IRC channel for a while now to handle automatic kicks when the other managers were away. I propose that we officially rubber-stamp this, and officially authorize him to have the +f and +s flags in the IRC, which essentially let him modify access lists (like hand out ops and what not).
Also, as he's one of the most active people, I'd also like to propose that should the current founder go inactive and wish to hand off her +F flag to someone else, we designate Gareth as the person to which it should go. --LiquidTalk 22:28, July 22, 2012 (UTC)
Support the first since I made the decision to do it months ago anyways. >_> For the second though, I think that should be determined at the time since circumstances in gaz's life could change before then. Christine (talk) 22:31, July 22, 2012 (UTC)
Support the first - I agree with Christine that Gaz may
be in changed circumstances have become a power-hungry maniac by the time we decide to give him founder flags, and as such we should wait until the founder retires and prods us into action. 222 talk 07:00, July 23, 2012 (UTC)
Support first - We'll see about the latter. It is not necessary for now.09:46, July 23, 2012 (UTC)
Support first - He's trusted with just about everything possible, so can't see why he isn't also a manager, but as others have said, wait until the time we need another founder before deciding who it will be.07:05, July 24, 2012 (UTC)
Support both. Gaz is as stable and dependable as anyone could ask. Since I'm told we can have multiple founders, I have no problem trusting him with being one. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 22:35, July 24, 2012 (UTC)
Comment - I don't see the point of not giving gaz founder rights because he may go inactive in the distant future. The channel can have multiple people with the founder right. Not like we will get stuck with Gaz as the only founder if we did that. bad_fetustalk 22:46, July 24, 2012 (UTC)
Support both - Something may happen to Christine to render her incapacitated tomorrow. Whilst we will likely have the luxury of time for her to make a decision to pass on her flags, if we trust him now, is there really an issue with him having them in the same time frame? cqm 18:49,25/7/2012 (UTC) (UTC)
Support - While I won't make my comment as potentially sinister as Cåm's ("something may [...] render [Christine] incapacitated tomorrow"), I shall say that Gaz has been a consistently reachable and active op on the IRC channel, and one with a good judgement, so he should get the role of manager. While that may be a moot point, he is also active in the Yew Grove, which indicates that he would quickly become aware of any consensus to create new IRC ops, and/or be the closing admin for such threads; he would also quickly become aware of any consensus to remove IRC ops after abuse, and have enough judgement to de-op an op on an emergency if s/he is going rogue or gets hacked.
