Recent IRC behavior (skip to 12:00) (Pastebin condensed version)

I'm not proposing any ban, block, or new policy. I want some kind of discussion on this (and other) behavior that is against IRC rules and is unacceptable in my opinion, and hopefully people will clean up what they say in the IRC. Players can come into the IRC and could find themselves this in type of stuff which reflects badly on the wiki. Full Slayer Helmet! Discussion

Comment - Discuss. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 22:11, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - How in God's name did that go from racism to sexual maneuvers to drugs? That is COMPLETELY unacceptable and I would NEVER stand for crap like that while I'm in the channel. That is sad. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 22:19, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I agree, some more on-topicness would be nice... Ajraddatz 22:37, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I agree, especially since I somewhat contributed to it. -- Furry (talk) 22:47, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - If someone is saying something that is offensive to you, you should simply ask them to stop. (And of course they should respect that.) Different people have different definitions of what is acceptable and what isn't. I do not believe that setting strict rules that substantially limit the range of "allowed" topics for the sake of people who have the narrowest of opinions on what is acceptable would be good for the channel as a whole. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 22:49, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Hard-Coded Comment - If you are in the channel and someone is saying something inappropriate, ask them to stop. Having a list of "approved topics" so to speak, would cause the channel to not become a place where Wiki users can communicate with each other for fun, but a place as dead as #wikia. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 23:01, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - There's no proposal to have 'accepted topics'. It's just a discussion to reflect on behavior in the IRC. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 23:11, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Right, and as I said in IRC: "I think it'd be a waste of my time to put on my op hat and force a subject change when people are talking about something forbidden but clearly everyone involved is okay with it. I also think it'd be a draconian abuse of authority." --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 23:21, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - The whole reason it took me so long to get involved with this community is for reasons like what happened in those links. It's a complete turn-off for new people, hence why there are none. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 23:13, February 21, 2011 (UTC)

Do you mean no new people on the wiki or IRC?   Swizz Talk   Events!   10:25, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - I come in the IRC to enjoy myself and have fun with other editors. If I happen to do this by being offensive or immature, I'd expect the offended person to step up and politely tell me to stop, just as they'd expect me to end the discussion. I realise that I may act immature in the IRC and if people really think this is unacceptable, I am willing to act normal. What we don't want is the IRC to back to what it was last year, empty with the rare visitor every so often. And limiting potential discussions will achieve just that. I try my hardest to make the IRC a fun place to be in and to welcome every new user. Sometimes I may go over the line, but when told I do stop. I see no need for any blocks or any new rules perhaps just a simple reminder to people like me and Iiii I I I to mature up sometimes. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone.   Swizz Talk   Events!   10:25, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Next time, instead of bitching here, try asking people to stop. It works way better. bad_fetustalk 16:39, February 22, 2011 (UTC)

Request for closure - This is somehow turning into a proposal. So we'll just stay the same with not following the rules until someone gets pissed. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 00:18, February 23, 2011 (UTC)
