On 10 September 2012, as proven in this official forum sticky posted by Mod Emilee, called "Human Base Model Changes", Jagex drastically changed the facial and bodily features of human NPC's and in-game player avatars in the live game. This update doesn't have an official place in the RuneScape news, but the forum thread I linked to earlier gives plenty of information.

The reason I posted this is because this update will make hundreds of Wiki images obsolete. So my question to leave to the RSW community is, what do we do about the hundreds of images now rendered obsolete by this update? I have a few suggestions, but you may think of your own.

Note, when I include two brackets on either side of a phrase of text, that means it should link to something.

Suggestion #1: Make a template that says, "Because of the "[[Human Base Model Changes]]" update, this image is rendered obsolete. If you have an up-to-date version of this image, please replace upload a new version of this image [[here]]."

Suggestion #2: Do nothing, this isn't a really big deal.

Suggestion #3: Don't do anything at this time. Although this update is already released into the live game, the facial and bodily features of characters will probably change when the Evolution of Combat is released, and/or shortly thereafter. Replacing the images would be too much of a hassle for the Wiki at this time.

(People who agree with this suggestion should wonder if people want to update the images for the sole purpose of this update, that they can if they want to, or that nobody should update the images for the sole purpose of this update until a later time, so Wiki readers aren't confused.)

Please, post what suggestion you agree with, or make your own suggestion. Please make your posts constructive so that administrators know what to do and not do.

Comment - It is true that the Evolution of Combat is nearing. However, no one knows for certain when it will be, so no one knows how much time we hold off with the new-model pictures. I'm leaning towards having people replace images gradually when they feel like it, starting from now, but not placing {{Obfile}} on all images with "fists" for fingers.

Comment - I think it wouldn't hurt to place a template on them that says something to the extent of option one. The template could be changed to the EoC update whenever it comes out so that a large number of the images would already be tagged, and people wanting to update them now can find some. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 01:21, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Support #3 - As they'd be changing things, even if we did do a spamfest of new equipped images, they'd become obsolete again after another change. Looking at the example pictures in that forum, of course, things will be getting updated as jagex feels out the design they wish to use as a solid template. While I do propose we continue taking new pictures of things that may be older or have bad/no images in the first place, for things that are at this moment in time up to date, should be kept at a stalemate. At this moment up to date, as in "anything that isn't minor like fingers"? What's major? Another "Armour Update" like the one that affected bronze to rune, all dragonhide, etc.?  a proofreader ▸  01:28, September 23, 2012 (UTC)
Could be possible. Plus we know when EoC does come out wieldable items will have different poses from what is in the game now. That, at least to me, warrents something major. User:Exor Solieve 01:34, September 23, 2012 (UTC)
I support re-oculusing things that are more of a heavy armour variety, such as full dragon plate armour. Then the hands would be the most important update of that image. But for things where the body without armour itself or the face will be changing, such as for a hat, I think we ought to keep those as is. Support #3 - Poses will change as well, so there's going to be a lot of changes. Best to do nothing at this time unless absolutely necessary. -- Recent uploads SpineTalkGuest book 04:04, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Support 2ish - I think we shouldn't waste time uploading images of the new model for NPCs/worn equipment. Most are incredibly ugly anyway (File:Shantay.png being en example, but my reason was that he is idle and bigger). It's exactly like the facial features update; If you upload a new image, it's okay, but don't go around uploading new versions solely for the new model. If the new image is of worse quality, revert. In addition, there will be fine tuning anyway. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 13:14, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - Wait until the tweaks shown in Mod Emilee's thread are released into the live game before making a template and stuff. If we start replacing images now then they'll become obsolete in a few weeks anyway. Also worth noting is that currently a large amount of NPCs don't actually use the new model, such as male Elves, Pirates, and the residents of Lumbridge. No need to go overboard with updates to equipped images, as they're meant to show of the equipment, not the player. Comment - Battleben, the tweaks are already released into the live game, but I get everybody's point, they're probably going to change over the next few months. And I think equipment images do need to be updated (it's just a matter of when), because changes over the next few months will change wielding stances. I think we'll be able to come to a consensus soon.Defence-icon.png99 i fail Attack-icon.png 14:17, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Actually, the Evolution of Combat models are released into live at the moment. Mod Emilee's thread shows some tweaks made to this model due to negative response to the community. These improved models are currently awaiting release into the game. All the Evolution of Combat update itself will change (regarding human models) is wielding stances of equipment. Support #3 - let's wait until the models have been changed completely and finally. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 14:20, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

Closed - We'll sit tight and see whether the model changes again after EoC is fully released. 222 talk 00:39, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
