At RS:THEME, we can only have a (major) change in the look of our site on holidays which are only in-game events too. But as a wiki, we could be much better than that and do more. This could be as simple as a small logo change or a full change in the site theme for a small holiday. I don't think this should apply to all holidays though, but some more recognized ones, such as:

  • Valentine's Day
  • St. Patrick's Day
  • 4th of July (Just a possibility, since this is a US holiday)
  • or Major updates (like the Citadel update, when runescape changed their website too)

The only difference with these though, would be that they wouldn't be applied that long, (maybe a day or two?) since they aren't as "big". Also, everything that was proposed in Forum:Wordmark holiday changes doesn't change. It could be something that other fansites don't do that makes us stand out even more!

Support - As nominator. Hair 23:41, March 16, 2012 (UTC)

Where to draw the line? - The question for me is what do we not consider significant? What one person considers significant may not be significant to others, such as St Andrew's Day. I consider that significant but I doubt any not from Scotland would What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 23:48, March 16, 2012 (UTC)

I have to agree with Ciph. I'm all for putting the Stars and Stripes everywhere for July 4, but I doubt our international readers will appreciate it as much as I will. --LiquidTalk 23:51, March 16, 2012 (UTC)
And for the record, I have never heard of a St. Andrew's Day. --LiquidTalk 23:51, March 16, 2012 (UTC)
St. Andrew's Day is the Patron saint of Scotland's day. Essentially a Scottish St. Patrick's Day. cqm talk 01:17, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
St Andrew's Day falls on 30 November btw What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 17:01, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
St David's Day pls Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 17:29, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
I would say St George's Day pls but we all know that no-one cares about that one. Gratz on the slam welshie :P --Henneyj 00:59, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
The only holidays named after saints that I can think of are Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day. --LiquidTalk 02:25, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
Liquid, Christmas celebrates the birthday of the saint, Jesus Christ. Lol And by the way, we need an Australia Day theme!! Chicken7 >talk 08:50, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - Unless we can agree on a list of major holidays to change the theme for. I'm outright opposing any national holidays, be it Australia Day, Independence Day, etc. 222 talk 00:28, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - Perhaps we could do something for breast cancer awareness day? It seems to have a large support on the RSOF when it comes around. Other than that I'd suggest getting a calendar and listing every holiday on there and voting on them individually. cqm talk 01:17, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Keep it Runescape Holidays - I honestly think the few holidays we will do it for is enough. Considering the work required and the time spent that is enough. I also think it's best kept to holidays that the Runescape community as a whole can associate with and care about, which will be much easier for holidays also seen ingame. --Henneyj 01:34, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Nah - Let's just stick to what Jagex celebrates in-game; Easter, Thanksgiving, Hallowe'en and Christmas. The only thing we could do extra is New Year or, what Jagex used to do on their 2008-2010 website, big updates, as you said. This month, it'd have been the armour update probably. If next month comes the long awaited Some Like It Cold, then we could do that. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 06:51, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - A valentines day theme would be terrible in my opinion. And holidays that are only appropriate for certain countries would be quite irritating to some international readers. Just stick to the major holidays which have an major event in-game. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:57, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - I don't care for changing with major updates, as that makes a mess of trying to scrape up a theme after the update has already occured and then trying to judge when to "go back to normal". Valentines day is just depressing for the (likely many) single RuneScape players. Fourth of July? No way in hell unless you want a Canada Day too (oh, and every other country while we're at it). Safer and easier to just stick with the official major RuneScape holidays. Hofmic Talk 07:45, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

What? - I've honestly never heard of St. Patrick's Day (maybe because I'm Dutch), and 4th of July is too american. For the updates idea, it would be so unpredictable when to do it, it would probably be impractical. For valentine's day, I don't see how that is related to runescape at all. So, I oppose doing this. I once came to school as early as 7:30 to nail my self-drawn hats, boots, pots o' gold, le-le-leprechauns, etc. to the walls, much to the surprise of the teachers. XD User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 18:35, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
Are you kidding me? The only times I showed up at high school at 7:30 am was when I was late. --LiquidTalk 01:16, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
It wasn't high school. And, every single school starts at 8:30 in this country. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 15:37, March 23, 2012 (UTC)
Lol, you've never heard of St. Patrick's Day? I'm disappointed in you. So here, for your reading pleasure. To quote: "Today, St. Patrick's Day is probably the most widely celebrated saint's day in the world." -- Cycloneblaze (user - talk - contribs) 17:35, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - Pretty much been summed up above What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 17:01, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

Complete Support - I've been wanting the wiki to change for holidays for ages, however I say ONLY DURING RUNESCAPE HOLIDAYS. So, this includes Halloween, Christmas, and Easter, and any other major events that Runescape has. Zamorak godsword detail.png techguy1001Talk 00:54, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

How is that a support then? That's what we already do, the proposal is about extending past the "RuneScape holidays". Hofmic Talk 01:11, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

Conditional support - I think we could change our theme for major game updates, such as a big new quest or new area (Chosen Commander, Branches of Darkmeyer, Clan Citadels (also I think that'd be really fun to do for quests/areas *signs up*)). However, though we are a wiki, we are a wiki dedicated to RuneScape. Therefore, I think we should stick to certain holidays that RuneScape recognizes/celebrates. Looking at 14 February, it doesn't look like they celebrate Valentine's Day at all apart from random clan events. St. Patrick's Day, Independence Day, and etc are all regional. We'd become the Holidays Wiki if we started supporting the smaller or regional ones. Also, we didn't choose our last logo until after the holiday was over or near-over iirc. If we start doing more holidays, that will just become one of those things on wiki where no one wants to deal with it anymore. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 02:20, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

I agree with Fergs. *points at what happened to the wikifests* --LiquidTalk 02:25, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - Seeing no one wants a full site change, maybe it would be better if we just did a logo change on the certain holidays for a day? Hair 22:04, March 22, 2012 (UTC)

This does nothing to resolve the above issues What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 14:23, March 23, 2012 (UTC)
Well, it seems some are saying that making a full site change would be to much, for small holidays. So it does solve some issues. Hair 14:27, March 23, 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't solve the issue of what small holidays are acceptable, which seems to be the biggest crux presented What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 15:05, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose - we're never going to get consensus over which holidays are important enough for a change, and if we only go for national days (i.e. St George's, St Andrew's, St Patrick's or St David's Day, 4th of July etc) or then any nationality not represented would quite rightly feel left out. Although if this does pass, I propose that Armistice Day (November 11) is one of the "holidays" represented with a logo change. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 17:39, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Partial Support - I like the idea of changing the theme for holidays, but I think there are just to many when you look at all the different countries. Changing the theme for major updates sounds like a great idea, I give it my full support. The only thing is, we might run into trouble with making a theme quickly and applying it asap. I do not know how long it takes to make a theme for the wiki, but this might be an problem. Thanks. Full slayer helmet.png Axela40 Slayer-icon.png 18:51, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - Country specific holidays(Independence Day, Boxing Day) shouldn't be on the list. Days like Christmas, Halloween, Easter (basically, rs holidays) should be on there. --Youdead00

Closed - There is no consensus to change the wiki's theme or logo for holidays outside holidays with in-game representation. 222 talk 09:49, April 5, 2012 (UTC)
