Forum:Help with an experiment?
I wanted to ask you if this community would be interested in helping us improve search suggestions by participating in a little experiment? As part of our constant effort to improve this facet of our search functionality, we want to try out some alternate methods. If you agree, we will try out these changes here and measure the results.
The testing period will last between two to four weeks.
During that period you will see the following improvements: much faster search suggestions and a different look for the way they appear.
The possible drawbacks are: search suggest will only provide namespace suggestions (no images or categories), and any new articles created during the test will not automatically appear in search suggest (although we can manually add them if that will help). --semanticdrifter <staff/> (help forum | blog) 15:23, October 2, 2013 (UTC)
Let's have the old search instead. MolMan 15:25, October 2, 2013 (UTC)

Um, no - First you give us this crappy new search function against our will, now you want us to test out some "improvements" which will inhibit users from finding new articles for 2+ weeks? No, we cannot do that. New articles are made with every update, which happen every week. Unless you want to recruit one individual to sit there and answer our emails about new articles (could be anywhere from 10 to 100 per update), it can't happen. Search is bad enough as it is, we can't risk making it any worse right now by helping you test it with these drawbacks. 01:49, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

No - Considering what this would be doing is killing the wiki knowing the amount of articles that would be created this month, it's not worth it. Also the fact that I don't see it on running on the current [http://ganglia.wikia.net/sjc/mobile.php#cluster-Wikia-dev Devboxes] makes me worried. So for the current time and until http://runescape.jakub.wikia-dev.com (or any other applicable devbox) shows the update you are planning, then no. Ryan PM 18:27, October 3, 2013 (UTC)
OK. Thanks for responding, everyone.
One reason I targeted this wikia as a potential "guinea pig" is because I know there has been some dissatisfaction here with our search functionality, so I thought "Who better to help us test new adjustments than some of our most vocal critics?" confident that you would be able to give us some great insights in how to improve the product.
It's not on a devbox because the test isn't ready, I am just rounding up subjects.
Also, I am talking about the search suggestions only, not the actual results. The articles would still appear on the results page, just not in the suggestion.
All that being said, I can totally understand why you wouldn't want to take part in the testing and I won't include this community in the batch. Thanks for your time. --semanticdrifter <staff/> (help forum | blog) 16:05, October 4, 2013 (UTC)
