Hello all, I've noticed that some editors have been tagging glitch images for deletion as a result of this RfD. There was consensus there to delete the gallery, but what about information on glitches and images of the glitches included on pages, such as on Cosmic altar?

I propose that we allow them - they have encyclopaedic value, and there is no reason why we shouldn't include interesting information on pages in my opinion. Ajraddatz 02:51, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Discussion

Support - As nom. Ajraddatz 02:51, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Neutral for now - Any non-free images that appear in articles should not be deleted if they are useful to better understanding the topic or notable subject of the article. However, I think that it might be better if we just individually decide if an image is useful in the articles in which they are found or not, because it's hard to determine whether or not some images have encyclopedic value. Oppose - After thinking about this, I notice a problem. The problem is whether or not that glitch its self is notable and should even be mentioned in the article. My opinion is that not every glitch is notable enough (only the most notable glitches have their own article on this wiki). For example, you wouldn't mention every single glitch on the RuneScape or glitch article on this wiki, nor would you mention all of the glitches in one spot if there were over a million of them there (I know I'm being way too extreme there, but it has to be considered). You would only mention the most notable, not every single one. Therefore, I oppose. Smithing 18:25, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Allow them if they are useful and interesting on the article, if not delete them. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 05:31, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Strong oppose - This glitch is incredibly common. It appears everywhere, and everyone experiences it. Everyone makes images, and everyone uploads it. If we allow this kind of images, we would eventually be loaded with so many of them that we already look like a dump for glitch images. Also, reading the closing statement in that RfD I see "Use common sense when determining which images are worth keeping: If the image appears to be fake, is a client-side glitch, or is a duplicate, toss it." and I am sure there are already "duplicates" of this glitch. And even if they all got deleted, File:Nolegs.png was definetely the best quality, so if we keep one(I think it is good to keep one) we should keep that one(or the :File:Noleg.gif|animation of it). If this forum is over, I am gonna clean up all glitch images so only one version exists(unless this forum has consensus otherwise). And we do indeed have much duplicate glitches(Grand Exchange Database#26 November rendering glitch). I don't see how those nolegs glitch images at all seperate articles where it happens would be useful. It happens everywhere, and just one mentioning on Glitch should be enough. "This glitch"? I'm not referring to one glitch, I am being general. We only need one image of each glitch, so if you find duplicates then I'll gladly delete them. However, I only saw that one image... Ajraddatz 22:47, March 4, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Per nom. It can only improve the wiki. bad_fetustalk 18:57, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

Also if it's over 9000 times the same glitch? Ask cook, that happens now. 9001 times the same noleg glitch. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 19:16, March 2, 2011 (UTC)
So then only have one image of it? You seem to have not read the proposal. Ajraddatz 22:47, March 4, 2011 (UTC)
I know that in the proposal you refer to me. I tagged all of those images, except from :File:Noleg.gif. I did indeed let one image be kept, and all other images I tagged. Next time glitches like this occur, we might want to add something to MediaWiki:Uploadtext that people shouldn't upload images of it. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 22:32, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - If we include them we need to place them well and make sure they're not extraneous or cause layout problems. I assume you don't want to keep 100 versions of the nolegs glitch. If the image is notable and unique I see no problem keeping it, but we need to get rid of unnecessary, low-quality, and non-notable graphical glitches that add nothing constructive to pages. ʞooɔ 19:21, March 2, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think there is any non-notable glitch. I agree with the uniqueness part though. bad_fetustalk 14:19, March 3, 2011 (UTC)
Do you consider yet another stretch glitch unique? and if so, would they all be notable? JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 14:23, March 3, 2011 (UTC)
Meh, I'd keep a few stretch glitches and delete the rest. bad_fetustalk 15:02, March 3, 2011 (UTC)
Per Chess, we only need one or a few images of each glitch, but they are all notable... and there is no reason (imo) to not include them on this wiki. Ajraddatz 22:49, March 4, 2011 (UTC)
Most of them are low-quality graphical glitches that aren't remotely important. Keeping one of them is fine, but we don't need multiple cyclopean helmet/no legs images, for example. ʞooɔ 02:49, March 5, 2011 (UTC)\

Comment - We may have to consider the images on The Great Orb Project/Glitches and Mobilising Armies/Glitches. For example, there are several glitch images having to do with GOP barriers, which some people might consider to be superfluous and other people might not, since they're still depicting different glitches (albeit of the same item).  Tien  18:15, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Support - I'm not all out in favour of glitch images but I feel theres good reason to include them on occasion. I think the key is to ensure that the image complements the text and works into the article rather than being whacked in as its own feature. --Henneyj 11:29, March 11, 2011 (UTC)

Support - So long as they are notable enough, complement the text like henneyj says and not duplicated elsewhere. I've just had a look through the glitch image catagory and speedy'd several duplicate glitches. I know I missed several though What I've done Ciphrius Kane Talk 16:27, March 13, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - After careful deliberation and reading through the contents of this thread and the RfD that sparked this discussion, it was clear that the consensus was to keep certain glitch images but to delete the "non-notable" ones. The question became how to define a "notable glitch image". Failing to define notability in such a way as to resolve this thread, I divided up the requirements necessary to keep glitch images into three aspects as follows:

A glitch image (file, media, etc) may be kept if it meets the following requirements:

  • The image is of original content and does not contain material that may be deemed of duplicate nature to any other media hosted on the wiki.
  • The image augments text describing such glitches in such a way that simply describing the glitch in a purely textual format would not or could not define the contents of the glitch adequately.
  • The image portrays the glitch in a manner such that the contents of the glitch are readily notifiable and/or recognizable.

Media that do not conform to these requirements will be deemed unnecessary and ultimately be deleted. This is to allow images and other media that possess encyclopedic value to remain and to remove unnecessary media that need not be kept. Additionally, the Images and media policy has been updated to reflect these requirements. Suppa chuppa Talk 21:08, March 28, 2011 (UTC)
