I would like custodians to be given the (move-subpages) permission. Currently only (sys)admins have it, but I think it fits in with the rest of the custodian tools. I can't imagine it would be more harmful than regular move pages, and would be a nice convenience.

Support - I haven't needed it that often, but I have missed it on occasion. -Hourglass (2011 Hallowe'en event) detail.png I Am Probably Someone Talk III The Spark.png- 09:01, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Question - I don't see any harm in this, but I'm confused where it would be needed. Custodians are aimed at file page maintenance and file pages don't have subpages. Subpages in the mainspace are a very small minority. User pages would be the obvious use for this, but we don't support renaming at the moment and it was always automated by Wikia anyway. Templates and modules rarely move, project pages almost never move and I can't even remember the last time a forum had a subpage. The list goes on in a similar fashion. Is a recent example of where this would have been useful but wasn't available? cqm talk 09:48, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

I don't need it often, but I have run into situations where it would've saved me a little bit of effort. Looking at my log I find at least three templates being moved to userspace that had /doc subpages that needed moving as well. I also believe that if a tradeable item's page needs moving, the item's exchange module needs moving as well, and that in turn comes with a /data subpage - I have some examples of this in my log as well. Though admittedly having to separately move six subpages in a year isn't a big issue.
As a side note, I'm not sure how focused the custodian role is on file maintenance in particular - I was told to request the role because I expressed interest in the deletedhistory and deletedtext permissions, even though I hadn't done much file-related editing at the time (and movefile is probably the custodian permission I've used the least). -Hourglass (2011 Hallowe'en event) detail.png I Am Probably Someone Talk III The Spark.png- 16:21, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
It was born out of a desire to give the movefile permission to non-admins (see Forum:Add "movefile" right to Rollback if you're interested). It's grown beyond that, but there's a reason we ask for file namespace contributions before giving it out. cqm talk 19:03, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
I know movefile was why the role was created, but it having grown beyond that was part of the point I was trying to make (also, I'd say RS:CUST's description of the role makes it sound more like a general-purpose maintenance role than a file maintenance one, and that description hasn't changed since 2011). -Hourglass (2011 Hallowe'en event) detail.png I Am Probably Someone Talk III The Spark.png- 03:10, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
