Forums: Yew Grove > Gameplay Settings - proposed changes to page

Hello admins and editors! First off I hope this is the right place for this and if it’s not I apologize.

I’ve taken some time to revamp the Gameplay settings page as it currently is a solid page of text and marked as “stub” and “incomplete”. I’ve broken the new proposed page down into individual pages that appear on a central “Gameplay settings” page. This allows each “section” to function independently from the others, but also allowing them to be all in one place under the general page.

I split the tabs into individual pages after seeing how some boss strategy pages didn’t allow for easy editing of tabbed pages (the edit source button directs to the numbered “edit” section of the entire page, rather than the specific item you are trying to edit for the tab) – this allows for new editors or inexperienced editors to easily edit a page, instead of hunting through all the source code to find the appropriate section.

You’ll see two different style types for the images

  • The first 4 tabs are one style – image after initial heading (my first idea for adding images)
  • The last 2 tabs are another style – image after “section” (second idea for images - I personally like this one - seems to flow better)

I wanted to throw these pages out there for comments, suggestions, etc. before making a massive change to a single page by adding in basically 7 new pages and a bunch of new images.

Also, I have no knowledge of how to do “proper” images with transparency, etc. so I’ve made little notes next to the intro images which I hope make sense and are understandable. I’m self-taught in terms of coding so I’m sure there are little tweaks here and there that could be made or something that isn’t quite correct so please let me know so I can learn.

Lastly, if this is a style that is appealing/liked, I’d like to look into applying it to all the interface pages – some of them are outdated, hard to find or difficult to navigate (at least for me….).

Thanks for looking and comments (good and bad) are welcome!

Proposal[edit source]

(additional pages are linked in tabs but follow Sandbox1, Sandbox2, etc.)

Discussion[edit source]

Comment - I think I'd rather keep the Update History all together outside the tabber, otherwise, u need to scroll up, click another tab and scroll down again to check the UH. meRds msg meRds msg 13:13, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Comment - I like it. When I initially created the page, I really just wanted something to add Update history too, since there were several patch notes that references. So I just stubbed out the skeleton of it based on what the text was in the interfaces in the game. I didn't add images, and I knew that there was a lot of work that needed to be done to make it a useful page. That being said, I agree with Merds. I think the Update history should be at the bottom of the page, and not in the tabbers. Some of the table of contents links don't seem to work (specifically related to the Update history stuff). - Sounds good on both - I'll wait for some more comments and then make that change to the UH and check out the links. Zjahra (talk) 16:05, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Support/comment - I like the addition of images and the tabber does help to break up the wall of text ^^ I agree that having the images after the text (in each section) seems to flow better than having the images first. It may be worth trying a version with the images to the left/right with the text alongside them. (You could throw a {{Clear}} in before headings so that they stay below the images, should the image happen to be taller than the text in the preceding section.) I also agree that the Update history should be outside the tabber 😁 - Rawny (talk) 18:30, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Clarification - Whilst the tabber does break up the wall of text, I agree with Salix's suggestion below (especially in light of the issues mentioned by cqm) ^^ - Rawny (talk) 21:24, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

Support/comment - I agree that this content needed some images, but I also agree with Rawny on some of the finer details like throwing in a {clear} tag should text go past the image. Also making text wrap around the images rather then picture -> text format currently on it.

Personally I think taking out the "Sections" heading is a good idea mainly because it's not really necessary. We know that sections are coming up based on the previous section that lays them all out. If you were going to make these each different sections (General, combat, skills, etc...) that would be a different story, but since you have tabs, the tab headings should cover that.

Also, don't be afraid to put the images to the left or right, or even alternate. Sometimes it looks better on the left, sometimes it looks better on the right. There is just too much information on the left and a lot of empty space on the right.

Anyways, good work friend :) Divination master cape detail.png AzurFoudre the Ravensworn Master quest cape detail.png 18:15, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Strong Oppose Tabber - Tabs like this don't do well on mobile, especially as the content within them is so long. I'd suggest using sections instead or splitting it into multiple pages if it gets too long. cqm talk 21:24, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Actually, I think I've misunderstood. Are the tabs part of the proposal or just to compare the differences? cqm talk 21:26, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

Comment - I think subpages with the main page having {{Main}} in the sections linking to the subpages probably make more sense in this particulair case in which case general patches can stay in the UH of the main page and specific ones can be moved to the specific subpages. Tabbers shouldn't be used in this case imo. Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 09:47, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Support ^ - I think Salix's idea would be the best option. Like cqm said, mobile has issues with these too. In regards to UH, we can add them separately to every subpage and everything to the main. meRds msg

Support ^ I think this is the option that makes the most sense. Cache117 (talk) 20:54, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
