At this point, I'm done being angry at Wikia over the Oasis update, though I still can't get over the strict limitations of [[MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation]]. Because of it, we've had to add a link to the Recent Changes at the expense of removing a link to the Forums. Frankly, I don't even use the forums, but I think a link to it needs to appear on the main page. Additionally, the RC isn't actually community related; the only reason we are keeping it there at all is due to lack of a better place. However, Wikia updated the personal toolbar at the bottom of the page to allow for RC links, allowing us to add the Forums link back.

With that said, I propose we switch the RC link back out with the Forum link, because the current location of the only forum link (the RC) is a terrible place for it.

Discussion[edit source]

Support - As nom. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 19:40, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

Support - I don't use the skin or the forums but this sounds reasonable now that you can customise the toolbar better (As soon as they add more column we could add it back... like a Tools column). Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 20:12, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - As I have previously stated, the seven sub-link and four header limit can be avoided by adding an additional asterisk to each item. This can allow for many more headers and more subnavigations. However if you do so, do not put more than five headers and/or ten sub-links as you don't want some god awful mess like the [[w:c:cannabis|Cannabis]] Wiki. That being said, I do support re-adding the forums link. Ryan PM 20:20, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

Support - You can add a link to the bottom bar, which you have always been able to do, but you can't add a link to the forums. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 00:56, February 5, 2011 (UTC)

Apathetic - No one uses the forums anymore; a forum admin just told me ingame that the forums are effectively defunct. Thus, I don't really see what the point to adding the forums link is. That being said, I don't really think the RC should go there either, and I don't really care, since I didn't even know that there was a link to the RC there until I read this thread. --LiquidTalk 01:08, February 5, 2011 (UTC)

Do you know when the last post was/how often posts are made? If that's the case (the forums being defunct), then I will just close this. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 15:13, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
I was going to propose that we remove the forums, but never got around to it. As for your question, someone made a post on a months-old thread today, and someone else asked a question yesterday that probably won't get answered. Besides that, there really is nothing. --LiquidTalk 15:17, February 5, 2011 (UTC)
<edit conflict> Sorry, my brain stopped working for a moment. I'm going to guess the reason the forums are "defunct" is because nobody knows how to get there. Wouldn't it be best to add the link back and see what we can do to revive the forums? We are the largest RS fansite; I'm sure people would use the forums if they knew about them. Pretty much the only people who use our forums do not read the rules, and usually post links to private servers/phishing sites, bump old topics that have been dead for months (sometimes YEARS, and I'm looking at YOU, Youdead00), or try to advertise their clans or clan events and EXPECT to get a response. I'm dead serious; they're never used properly, and only seem to attract scammers and noobs. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 16:48, February 5, 2011 (UTC)

Not seeing it - As a MonoBook user, I don't see anything like this, although, looking at the forums, there's not really much life there anyway, so I would say keep the RC link. Real Mad 11:51, February 5, 2011 (UTC)

Support - As long as we don't have to remove any links. 222 talk 10:02, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

OPPOSE The forums are barely alive and a link will not change that. There are just too many more active forum communities out there, we cannot compete. That being said, the users who DO use them know where they are quite well. Additionally, a link to the Forms DOES EXIST on the recent changes page. It takes ONE CLICK TO GET THERE. ONE CLICK. There is NO corresponding click from Forums to recent changes, Therefore, you are proposing to make a change to benefit less than ten people, at the expense of many. That is stupid, entirely. You do not make a change for a few that makes it more difficult for many. Now, I see discussion about people being able to add the RC link to some other place on a personal bar or whatever. That sounds great, except, how many new people know how to do this, or even if it can be done? Damn few. This entire idea is ridiculous. Recent changes is where everything that is happening shows up. Its the most important page in the wiki perhaps. It needs to stay.--Degenret01 14:01, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Anyone who uses the RC would already have it added to their MyTools, and if they are new, wikiactivity is better for them anyways. Let's try and get the forums active again :) Ajraddatz 14:23, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

The forums are NOT dead/dying because the links are gone. They have been dying for a long time, when the left menu bar had an easy pop out link to them. You are deluding yourselves thinking this is the answer. Your also assuming that just because you know how to edit a menu bar that every new person coming along will. More ridiculousness.--Degenret01 14:51, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

It's true, it really is. The forums have been pulseless for months, and with recent problems regarding inability for users to view several threads, it's not helping either. Unless we have some giant campaign to get users back on the forums (and get wikia to debug them- hahaha, no.), they will stay dead for the rest of the wiki's life. (davelopo) 20:49, February 11, 2011 (UTC)
...I didn't mean to say that linking will solve the problem. I do, however, think that a link could help to make some people more aware of them, and this in combination with other advertising as part of a community drive could make them active again. Ajraddatz 20:56, February 11, 2011 (UTC)
Is a "get the community back on the forums! :D" Campaign really reasonable, you think? (davelopo) 21:01, February 11, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I do. Almost all of the other fansites have more activity on their forums than on the content side - the main reason that we are not the same is because our forums suck. Still, though, I think that there is potential for improvement. Ajraddatz 21:03, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Remove Yew Grove link The Yew Grove, as does Forums, has a link on the top line of links on Recent Changes. This could be replaced with a page that does not have a direct link. I do not know off hand what page needs one though.--Degenret01 14:59, February 11, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - There's another thread open debating whether or not we will keep the forums at all. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 19:49, February 12, 2011 (UTC)
