After the recent success of the wikifest I think it's time we build our relationships with RuneHQ and other sites that have in-game communities. I and some others came up with the idea in the Clan Chat to to have an inter-fansite minigame tournament just for fun but mainly to build stronger relationships with other sites. Obviously it'll take some time to organise this but if we spend enough time doing it, it could be a success.

Some ideas I had for the minigames were:

  • Castle Wars (P2P) - Easy pointing system, 1 point per flag, 1 per draw and 2 per win.
  • Clan Wars (P2P/F2P) - 3 points per win maybe?
  • Stealing Creation (P2P) - 3 points per win
  • Soul Wars (P2P) - 3 points per win

We can think of some more and possibly improve on the pointing system. I see that there's a lack of F2P events hopefully we can build on that.

Some fansites we could include in this are Tip.It(Participation Confirmed), RuneHq(Participation Confirmed), and Zybez, it will be hard to contact all of them but hopefully we can do it. Even if we're left with just one other fansite, we can still go ahead with this as there's 4 minigames we can play. I understand that this is just an idea in its early stages but hopefully it can evolve into an annual thing that the community can look forward to every year.

In short, my proposal is to have an Inter-Fansite Minigame Tournament.   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:11, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Edit: So far we have collected the forum posts, that we posted on the threads of the fansites:

The list will be added too as the day progresses on, and will be edited to show the feedback of the communities.

Discussion[edit source]

Support - As nom.   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:12, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Neutral - I'm not sure if this will help us have stronger relationships with other fansites. You've seen the people from RuneHQ yesterday, most of them were flaming us. We can't really have any relationship if they don't want to have them. bad_fetustalk 11:15, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

I like it Despite the fact I am sometimes concerned about our site becoming too "clannish", I think activities vs other fansites would actually be good. Because they are fansites, not typical standard clans. Maybe even more could grow from this, exchanging of article help or editors, I don't know. But I think it is well worth pursuing. Let us open the doors to try different activities, and ask as many fansites as we like. I do really hope we and they put this in the proper perspective of team building and unifying our sites with some common goals and sharing some ideas, not "creating enemies". This must be stressed to them if we agree and propose it to these other sites.--Degenret01 11:17, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Love the idea, and I've posted an topic on, epicly failing with the title there, my faux paus. I think we really could build a relationship with other sites, sure the Rune HQ weren't fond of us the other day, but most of them were low levelled people who just wanted to think they're bigger. I really do think the actual people from the site are nice. Anyway, If you want me to change anything please tell me.

Support - We need to get a council to help put it together, I suggest (if they want to do it) Swiz, Degen , Exsibilation, me and possibly Tim as these people were all active in the discussions in the cc when we decided about this. Some people here might not want to organise this so we could get some other people to help with this. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 11:20, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe 5 is a bit too much? If you think about it, if each fansite has 5 "council members" that's 20 people.   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:23, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
Possibly 3 but they get first choice?. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 11:27, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
To be honest I don't think we even need a council. All "fixtures" will be organised abit like soccer fixtures. Have RSW v RHQ one day then the next week have RSW v Tip It.   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:38, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
I find it quite dumb that you picked people just because they were there. Other people, who weren't even logged in at that time need a chance too. Anyways, As swiz said, there isn't really a need for a council. bad_fetustalk 11:58, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
Why is the council from the wiki? Shouldn't it be comprised of representatives from all the participants and when they come to a conclusion post it on all participating sites simultaneously? [Pharos] 12:12, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
Two from each community will do, that makes up 8 which is enough. They are just to keep order, and for the clan wars challenges. 13:01, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't saying they should get picked I was saying they should have an opportunity to do it as they were very involved in the original discussion. Also we get ones from each fansite not just this one pharos. I guess not to a council, just people from each fansite who will work with each other working out times and dates for the events. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:19, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
We shouldn't be putting ourselves in this "council" role, the community should elect people, Exsi and I are merely putting this together.   Swizz Talk   Events!   15:11, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
Just so people understand i am not saying these people should get elected straight away, i am just saying i put there names forward for when the wiki decides who should get picked in the council.Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 10:31, June 12, 2010 (UTC)
If this pases then they could run it from our side.Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 11:24, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Tomorrow I will make a thread on the official forums looking for some ideas to put on it. I will put a link here when i have created it, Thanks. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 11:27, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Although wouldnt it be much simpler to have a scoring system of 2 for a win 1 for a draw 0 for a loss? Just a suggestion i guess it wont really matter if the other fansites dont all agree to it. Slayer Timwac talk Fire cape.png 11:27, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

I was sticking to football football pointing's. Anyway I'm happy to change it but I think you should get less points for a Castle Wars win then you would any ting else because you can score points for getting flags.   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:35, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
How about for castle wars 3 for a win 1 for a draw and don't include flags, just a lot simpler and sometimes you might get a team get 10 points in a game(exaggerating but still) which isn't really fair. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:23, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I understand the ideas above are just ideas, though I will not support unless at least one event is totally f2p with no optional members aspect of the activity. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 11:41, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

How about making the Clan Wars event completely F2P   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:48, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
I am sure that will start a riot, but it's the only f2p activity (other than GOP) that we could use for the event, so I suppose that works. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 11:49, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
How will it start a riot?   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:50, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
"Oh crap I don't have any f2p armour or weps so I will have to buy some even though they are not as good as what I could use in members and I really don't want to buy any to start with." Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 11:52, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
The wiki has good community spirit I'm sure alot of people will be happy to fight in F2P. Also we have a large F2P community anyway.   Swizz Talk   Events!   11:55, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
If the other sites do not wish for any F2p then it is pointless to decide now we want some of it to be that. Try to arrange some after we get some sites agreeing.--Degenret01 12:01, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
@ the riot and annoyed members point: I was joyously suprised at how well the wiki and to a lesser extent our opponents(Rhq) banded together as a clan when facing a common enemy. There were many players willingly lending their weapons and armour to others while they walked all the way back to varrock to grab another weapon or purchase a duplicate that they could lend out. IMO if they are really that unwilling to play f2p then they can just stand around while everyone else has fun (drenching their blades in blood which counts as fun in rs) [Pharos] 12:25, June 6, 2010 (UTC)
What common enemy? Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 00:19, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
What i meant was that instead of trying to help themselves they helped their teamates with the goal of beating runehq. Normally an attitude taken is to help yourself as an individual. This way we must work as a team to beat a team as strong or stronger than us.Do you kind of know what i mean? [Pharos] 01:18, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
I think that there should only be one clan wars not 2 so f2p makes sense as it is the only one possible, because GOP is a bit harder to do especially since it requires 50rc which a lot of people don't have. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:19, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Support - (btw just checking, everyone can vote in these right?) This will be a great way to bring the wiki closer together, especially those members who barely take part in discussions and editing. This may also tie in well with the triumvirates thingy and the jagex cup somehow. However we will need to depend a bit heavier on rankings ingame to help co-ordinate events on such a huge scale, which I dont think is against the wiki's everyone is equal policy. Also, can we add duel arena to the list? We could have elected members of each clan fight while everyone watches. The representative fighters would be chosen as the winner from a round of duel tournaments. [Pharos] 12:41, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Anyone may state their opinion, yes. But it's not really voting, as we go off consensus here. Instead of just adding up support, subtracting oppose, we look at the value of each argument presented. HaloTalk 13:15, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Yes, some people from Rune HQ were flaming us, but not everyone. We have people who would do that to, but we told them not to. We listen better, that's the simple truth. I'd love to have a chance to play some games with these other fan sites. Especially soul wars...I dominate it. HaloTalk 12:45, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Can we make it so there is a winner for each event and an overall winner? Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 09:44, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - If we go on with 4 events and 4 teams, that's 12 games to record per team. Maybe we should just stick to two events (It wont take as long, if we plan to do this on weekends, best time for most people, I think it'll take over a month to complete). I suggest we set a poll up and people vote for the 2 mini games they would like to do the most (keep in mind one should be done in F2P) and the two most games will be the ones we play, what do you guys think?   Swizz Talk   Events!   20:52, June 7, 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking we want it to last a long time (calendar wise). How much inter fan-site relations will we build if this ends a week after it starts? Let it last a couple months by doing a couple events every other Sauturday or Sunday. Give our groups a chance to actually take some time to get to start talking and exchanging ideas.--Degenret01 00:59, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
I agree with swizz that we should keep it short maybe a couple of weeks just to see how things go. Then, we can plan a larger one once we know everyone is fine with it and will participate in the whole competition. [Pharos] 06:44, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
We don't really need to cull events because we could do it in a way like we have all castle wars at once which would be 6 events (or 7 if we add a non point section final). If we had that it would be between 2 and 3 hours, with 20 minutes per game and 3 minuted between matches.Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 09:17, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
The focus should be on talking to other fansites, the competition is a way to do that. The competition itself should not be the focus. --Degenret01 09:28, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
From what I heard, the focus for RuneHQ at the wikifest was the competition, and to make sure the wiki was receiving a distasteful taunt every 10 seconds. Although we may be trying to build relationships, the players aligned with other sites may not necessarily wish to "become friends". Chicken7 >talk 12:44, June 8, 2010 (UTC)
Well then, we'll just have to win ;) HaloTalk 12:49, June 8, 2010 (UTC)

I don't see why you even made that thread, dude. But anyway, Exsi has been in touch with Tip.It and Zybez and the general mood towards the event seems optimistic. I have spoke to RuneHQ and I'm still waiting for a reply.   Swizz Talk   Events!   15:47, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

RuneHQ Support - I fully support this - I think this is a wonderful idea to get all the fansites together. We've had events like Steel Wars and such, and looking at how Wiki has planned this out, I'm sure it's going to be fun. Additionally, I cannot guarantee there won't be any flaming from members of the RuneHQ community, but I'd like to let everyone know that RuneHQ does not condone their actions and we will try to do our best to keep this from happening. - Double_D_Edd
