OK, it seems that most people are good with the extension itself. Now let's consider what filters we want to have. This discussion will be divided into many topics, please make suggestions on all of them, and even propose new filters!

Blanking pages

  • Disallow anons and new users to blank pages in the mainspace and RuneScape namespaces.
  • Warn all but custodians/rollback/sysop when blanking a talk page (give a RS:DDD) notice). If they wish to, they will still be able to carry out the action.

Section blanking/replacing with little content

  • Tag section blanking and replacing for all non-autoconfirmed users and anons with (Tag: Section blanking/replacing).

Swearing/sexual language

  • Warn all non-autoconfirmed when inserting a swear or sexual phrase into a mainspace or RuneScape page, and tag with (Tag: Swearing).
  • For very strong language, also warn on talk pages.

Small new article

  • Tag all new article creations with under 50 characters with (Tag: Small new article).

Unwikified new article

  • Tag all new articles created without a template with (Tag: Unwikified new article), so that content builders can quickly spot articles needing help.

Adding excessive whitespace

  • Warn user that they are doing it.
  • Tag all edits by non-autoconfirmed with (Tag: Whitespace).

Exchange vandalism

  • Warn all anons and new users when changing a page in the Exchange: namespace by more than a set number of bytes.
  • Tag these edits with (Tag: Large price change).

Discussion

Support all - Yes, they all seem good, though I might suggest that we don't stop them at custodian/rollback/sysop. Perhaps a warning for those groups also when blanking pages without an edit summary? It's possible to do it accidentally. --LiquidTalk 02:24, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Couldn't hurt, especially since they are still able to preform the action. ajr 02:26, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Oh yeah, are people able to opt-out if they wish to? Obviously, this would be limited to autoconfirmed users, but I think it's nice if it's something like Wikia's warn when no edit summary is entered option. That way, users who know they are going to be triggering warnings from this due to legitimate action can do their work without excessive burden. --LiquidTalk 02:27, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
I suppose specific exceptions could be programmed in, but that would take some effort on the part of administrators. I'm not even 100% sure if it's possible. ajr 02:29, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Oh. That's not as good, but I'll still swallow it. The benefits outweigh potential concerns, in my opinion. Besides, if it acts up, we can always remove it. --LiquidTalk 02:30, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
It is also possible to revert all actions by a filter if it sucks :) ajr 02:47, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Can all of these be turned off for autoconfirmed, autoconfirmed most likely know what they are doing and would get grumpy having to be slowed by a warning. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 02:32, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Except for the page blanking, and have that just show up on talk pages and if it is 'Replacing page with'. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 02:34, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, although I think that it would be good to keep it as is. Mistakes happen, and this could cut down some of them. ajr 02:47, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support all - But we need something to cut down on exchange vandalism. These maybe?

  • Warn all anons and new users when changing a page in the Exchange: namespace by more than a set number of bytes.
    • Tag these edits with (Tag: Large price change).
  • Disallow all anons and new users users from inserting non-numerical values, except for text used within the template, tildes, and dates.

--Aburnett(Talk) 02:42, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

You have to move the date and time, would that trigger it? Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 02:44, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
It would be possible to make a filter that tags large numerical changes, and with the large byte change, but I don't think that the other thing is possible. ajr 02:46, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Are you sure? Couldn't you use regex to dissalow any text changes except for those including numbers, months, tildes, and anything else used in a typical exchange update? --Aburnett(Talk) 02:49, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Possibly, but that would present problems when creating an exchange page, and would also be very difficult :P ajr 02:55, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
True. I would be interested at least attempting to code it once this gets enabled. --Aburnett(Talk) 02:58, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
Please read my suggestion below. If that is possible, it would be better than working with bytes etc. imo. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 14:24, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

Support - I see no problems, as long as I don't start getting issues when editing without using edit summaries. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 02:52, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support+Comment - They all sound good, but is there a reason to not completely stop swearing in the mainspace for non-autoconfirmed because if they are going to swear with vandalism even with a warning they will continue doing it. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:56, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

No - Most cases of vandalism are test edits, and if warned that we don't want bad words in our articles and that you will be blocked if you do so, most people won't. ajr 19:14, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
But we don't want test edits in the mainspace, if there is any productive edit which has swearing in it than i would agree with not completely blocking it out but i have never seen any productive edits using swear words. Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 07:50, November 16, 2010 (UTC)
...and that is why I'm proposing that we warn users when making them... ajr 14:00, November 16, 2010 (UTC)
But why don't we stop them having the ability to do adding that stuff to the mainspace? Hunter cape (t).png Sentra246Blue hallowe'en mask.png 06:31, November 17, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Looks fine. Suppa chuppa Talk 07:08, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Per all. Although this seems to be a watered down version of what I was expecting. Why don't we just outright block excessive swearing, and completely disallow any sexual references in all namespaces but discussion, User and Forum. 222 talk 07:19, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

There might be, on some very strange occasion, some time when completely blocking something would prevent a good action from being taken. But, you might be right. ajr 19:14, November 15, 2010 (UTC)
How could that be possible? 222 talk 09:52, November 17, 2010 (UTC)

Support - However I have one concern. This is with anons and newly created accounts about adding more than a set amount of bytes for a given edit (remember this or that?). I say add a filter for edits with byte size changes for anons and newly created users of ±5,000 be disallowed. Ryan PM 15:07, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

That would have a lot of false positives, even though there would be an overall positive effect. What about warning them if they add/remove that much content? ajr 19:14, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support all - With caution. I would also like what Ryan is saying...but my caution is this: sometimes in attempting to control things, we pervert them, and they turn against us. This sounds fine, but let's be very careful about how we do it. HaloTalk 19:19, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Per above. Magic-icon.pngStelercusIlluminated Book of Balance.png 20:28, November 15, 2010 (UTC)

Notice of intent - I'd like a neutral sysop to close this in a couple days, at which time they should go to Special:Contact and request that it be enabled. In the mean time, I'll be trying to program these filters :3 ajr 19:22, November 20, 2010 (UTC)

Support - All looks ok. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 14:19, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

Suggestion - Could we have something that evryone who edits the Exchange: namespace without changing 2+ lines will be stopped, and only rollback+ can continue(for some cases useful) and save? the 2 lines because a price change always needs a change in the price, current date AND last date.(2 lines should also be continue-able for evryone as the price may be stable, and only the date is changed. It should still get the warning for all but bot though) The warning will then tell what to do. This will prevent more problems with incorrect price updates, which happen quite often now. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 14:19, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if that's possible, and it definitely isn't at my skill level :P ajr 15:49, November 22, 2010 (UTC)
Ring ring, bananaphone, give me Q's number. --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 16:07, November 22, 2010 (UTC)
It is 911 or 13371337. Is that enough? JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 20:27, November 24, 2010 (UTC)
Nope. He goes on business trips alot... --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 18:25, November 28, 2010 (UTC)
Ikin says she is so pro at codes. Let's make her do it. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 19:27, November 28, 2010 (UTC)
Well, as she is blocked now, she won't probably be able to do so... JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 11:47, December 6, 2010 (UTC)

Support/Question - Will UTP be mentioned in the swearing on talk pages warning? If not, I believe it should. — Enigma 16:14, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it definitely can be, and should be. ajr 16:32, November 22, 2010 (UTC)

Support/Question - Looks great. Would it be possible to have all tagged edits appear under a single page, or would there need to be multiple pages? For the vandal chasers, it would be much easier to only look at a single page. Summoning-icon.png To3cutt3r Talk HS Log Summoning-icon.png 17:49, November 23, 2010 (UTC)

Support - Everything looks good - I <3 AbuseFilter. --AzurisProblem, wiki? 07:19, November 24, 2010 (UTC)

Bump - Needs discussion. --中亚人/中亞人 (Chinasian/Jeffwang16) 跟我谈话 04:50, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

I've requested this. It takes database changes to enable, so it's not something I can flick on myself, but I think it should be able to be done soon. One thing to mention: this is a really complex tool, which we have very limited ability to support -- so you are going to need to know what you are doing! If you have problems and need it turned off, then please let me know. -- Sannse<staff /> (help forum | blog) 01:56, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
I know know how to turn it on and off myself ;) so it's on now. Please let me know of problems. Thanks -- Sannse<staff /> (help forum | blog) 18:03, December 8, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - This has been implemented. Please direct any bugs/errors/mistakes you find to RS:AR or RS:UH. --LiquidTalk 22:58, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
