'''Oppose''' - I like the (m). It's subtle, doesn't stick out, and doesn't show its age, unlike that ridiculous in-your-face membership symbol from 8 years ago. Not every table needs to look like it's taken from a washing mashine brochure. I agree that "members?" doesn't need to be its own column but there's nothing wrong with a small text-based symbol. As for drop reference and cog icon in the header, I say just be bold and tweak them to be slightly smaller. {{Signatures/5-x}} 14:54, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Drops table updates

With the introduction of Dark Mode(tm), the new Cog(tm) on the rarity column doing maths for us, and RuneMetrics data slowly being introduced on to more and more drops table. I feel it's time to look at our design and say, "what can we do better?"

What's the issues? It's perfect!

With myself being one of the few (maybe only) people processing the RuneMetrics data and putting it up, I look at the drops table everyday. I can tell you. It's far from perfect.

While the colours now update per wiki skin we use. There are other visual things about the drop table that should be changed.

  • Issue one - The cog/"drops" annotation combo
  • Something needs to be done about how wide the rarity column is now due to the cog introduction.
  • Issue two - The "P2P icon.png" to indicate members items on F2P monsters.
  • It's ugly, unsightly, and honestly horrible to put on (code wise). Also it's used throughout the wiki and perhaps something a little more visually would be better.

Proposals

  • Option 1: Smaller Cog image
  • Option 2: Change the "default" annotation from 'drops' to something else. Current options are 'd -' or 'A -'. However open to suggestions.

  • Option 3: Go from "Header nameP2P icon.png" to "Header nameP2P icon.png"
Results being:
Item Members Quantity Rarity[d 1] GE price High alch value
Mystic cloth.png: Forum:Drops table adjustments drops Mystic cloth with rarity 1/128 in quantity 1-3 (noted)Mystic clothF2P icon.png1–3 (noted)1/1284,854-14,5622,400-7,200
Battlestaff.png: Forum:Drops table adjustments drops Battlestaff with rarity 2/128 in quantity 1BattlestaffP2P icon.png (m)P2P icon.png12/1284,8904,200
  1. ^ Estimated based on 4,726 kills from the RuneMetrics drop logging project.
  2. With this change nothing would currently change about the way we mark members objects in the DropsLine template.

    • Option 3-B: Add a parameter, like the proposal below to make marking members objects easier, but visually it'll look like it does above.

    • Option 4:
    • With this opportunity we could potentially update the drops table to look like this:
Item Members Quantity Rarity[d 1] GE price High alch value
    Mystic cloth.pngMystic cloth1–3 (noted)1/1284,854–14,562
    Battlestaff.pngBattlestaffP2P icon.png12/1284,863
    1. ^ Estimated based on 4,726 kills from the RuneMetrics drop logging project.
    2. Instead of:
Item Members Quantity Rarity[d 1] GE price High alch value
      Mystic cloth.png: Forum:Drops table adjustments drops Mystic cloth with rarity 1/128 in quantity 1-3 (noted)Mystic clothF2P icon.png1–3 (noted)1/1284,854-14,5622,400-7,200
      Battlestaff.png: Forum:Drops table adjustments drops Battlestaff with rarity 2/128 in quantity 1BattlestaffP2P icon.png (m)P2P icon.png12/1284,8904,200
      1. ^ Estimated based on 4,726 kills from the RuneMetrics drop logging project.
      2. With this change the DropsLine Template will gain a new parameter: "|Members=yes" Meaning any members only item would get tagged like that. Looking at the code it would also be possible to add a parameter to DropsLineHead to "turn on" this feature so that members only monsters would show a standard drop table.

        Example

To see how this might look on a full and completed drops table please see the link above for a test version of the Ankou drops table.

        Updated Example

The latest version can be found at User:Elessar2/High alch. The javascript for the filters and display settings can be found at User:Elessar2/common.js and the css is at User:Elessar2/common.css for the moment you need to run it in your browser yourself to test it, the css only styles the popup so you can ignore it to test the functionality. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks, Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 16:18, 18 January 2019 (UTC) Updated: 18:39, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

        Discussion

Support - I like option 4, but also make a smaller line-height cog. Can we also change [drops 1] to something shorter? Quest map icon.png Laser Dragon Task map icon.png 23:32, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Could we not just do some thing like Rarity[1] obviously with a link the the text jericowrahl (talk) 18:56, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Support - I also like option 4 the most, but I would move the members icon to the 1st row instead of the 2nd. Rederdex (talk) 23:42, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Complicated Support - With regards to the members mark, I would support the addition of a new parameter like in 4. However, if possible, I would prefer it get an option in how it is displayed added to the cog: Icon in separate column, icon small next to name, P2P icon.png subscript (so it looks like current), or hidden completely. With the cog applying to more than just the drops column, it could then be moved elsewhere, such as the far left, above the item icon, and would not need to be resized. If these additions to cog options are not possible, then my preference is 1, alongside either "no change" or 3-B. -- F-Lambda (talk) 23:47, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Support 4(-ish) - Much like F-Lambda, I like the added Memebers Icon column and moving the "Cog" to the far left (same size) with added option to turn on/off the memebers object column. I don't necessarily think there needs to be multiple options beyond simply "hide members column" from the cog, though I am not opposed to, for example, option to display (m) as it currently is, show new members icon column, or hide members indicators totally. In any case, we could still add the new members parameter so that even if we decide at this time not to change the end result of how the table is displayed, the parameter would still be used backend to indicate members items and display the (m), but allow more flexibility in the future.
Also, I really do not like the [drops 1] annotation. It bothers me personally more than the cog size or anything else. Can this notbe shortened to just a superscript 1 or an asterisk/dagger reference symbol, somethinng like "Rarity¹" or "Rarity †"?  RS AdvLogMyles Prower  Talk 17:16, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Support/I'm probably nitpicking - so I love the look of it all and this is probably unrelated but I noticed that most of the drop rates listed on the example list were not in reduced fractions is 2/128 rather than 1/64 ect. You probably plan on fixing that already but I just wanted to make sure that it was noticed. jericowrahl (talk) 18:43, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Just fyi, the non-reduced fractions are an intentional choice cus it reflects how the drop probability is (most likely) programmed and makes it easier to compare with other drops. That said, reduced fractions is one of the options if you click the cog.    SuperiosityQuick chat button.png : Yo, what's up   23:25, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Half the size of the cog - It's way too big, it should not be the same size as the text JaydenKieran 22:01, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Support 4 - But yeah definitely reduce that cog size and change that Rarity annotation. I think Jericowrahl's suggestion (Rarity[1]) is fine.    SuperiosityQuick chat button.png : Yo, what's up   23:25, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

        Support 1 & 3/3B - Fishing cape.png Kate the HuntressQuest.png 17:47, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Support 3B - I feel like the members icon being small and not taking up an entire column is a better idea than the (m). I also think the size of the cog should most definitely be smaller to improve upon the space the entire drop table takes up. Folks, could a High Alc column be added? 8InchDagger (talk) 13:22, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Support 3B - I like the idea of having a separate column, so you can sort by y/n, but I kinda also agree with the others that having it in the options cog would he nice. If that happens, I think it should be the option to remove members drops. Also, as an option, to convert the value table between GE and alch values (to correlate with what dagger said above me). I feel this would be a nicer feature for ironmen, considering they cannot access the GE. Badassiel (talk) 23:52, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

Edit: perhaps a change in the parameter to say if "no value for GE" then "not sold" for the column, which should translate better if we add the ability to change to alch values, again with a similar parameter if "no alch value" then "cannot alchemise" and therefore eliminate the need to add "gemw=no". Badassiel (talk) 23:58, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

Support 2 and 3B - I see no harm in replacing "drops" with "d-", though maybe it should be explained somewhere what it stands for. Definitively supporting 3B, no extra comments on that. Neutral for 1. As a sidenote, I would love the option to display alch values. Perhaps the cog could get an option to switch between GE values and alch values? Attamaris (talk) 23:02, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Support 4 - I agree with adding the alch values as well, adding a cog to switch GE column is cleaner than adding another column. I'd also add a filter for members/non-members items. Elessar2 (talk) 23:08, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

Oppose - I like the (m). 5-x Talk 14:54, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
