I propose we disable the Rich Text Editor. This supposed 'What you see is what you get' mode almost never comes out as shown on the editor. It causes problems with the source such as unnecessary characters (ie. [[Dragon dagger|Dragon dagger]]), table misalignment, and leaving huge gaps. This does help new users edit but they usually switch to source mode in a couple of days due to it not coming out the same. This change may reduce vandalism by making it not as easy to blank a page. Oppose - First of all, it's not vandalism if it's in good faith. Second of all, disabling the RTE requires that all editors have some knowledge of wiki markup, which is certainly not the case. While I dislike the RTE and have disabled it on my account, I realize that it helps new users by providing a more user-friendly method for editing. --LiquidTalk 20:52, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Sannse and Psycho Robot are working on fixing these issues as seen here. HaloTalk 20:57, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - It's still a relatively new feature, so we should let it have more time to work out all the kinks and bugs. Besides, there's an option to turn it off on every page, so it's really easy to switch to source mode, also, in your preferences users can easily disable it as the default method. Coincidentally, I'm using RT right now to type this out. It's really simple, less distracting, and serves a better purpose for the shorter posts, but for more informative topics or complicated subjects like the Grand Exchange pages, I am in favor of using source, as all the templates and images and coding and everything can only be done through source. Oppose - Per Liquid and Aburnett. However, I do think we should push for Wikia to have better quality assurance with RTE editor development. RTE bugs have in the past and continue to place a large maintenance burden on editors, whose time is better spent making other types of edits. It seems like new RTE-based bugs are appearing all the time and these bugs are negatively impacting the quality of our articles. --Quarenon  Talk 03:53, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - Per Liquid/Aburnett/Quarenon. I've been seeing more and more of these RTE fail-edits, and they get quite annoying (especially when Ajr beats me to fixing them Frown). To be honest, I have no idea how these bugs even happen, but they need to be fixed. I hope sannse and Psycho make some good progress soon. Oppose - I'm gonna oppose for now, since I've told Sannse about the bugs and she said she submitted a report. I'm not "working" on it, really. I just told her it was wigging out. I have no idea how the RTE works. It could be Wiki sponsored sorcery for all I know. But if it can be fixed, it'd be nice so I say give it a while longer. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 04:11, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - If it means that newbies can edit easier, then I'm all for it (and perfectly willing to revert the occasional mistake). Ajraddatz Talk 04:23, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I personally don't use it myself, but I can see its benefits. If you don't like it you can go back to the old school editor via your preferences.   Swizz Talk   Events!   15:30, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I don't use it, didn't use it when I was a newb (I had found it harder), but other newbs seem to be finding it easier to use, I don't see why we should make editing harder for them. bad_fetustalk 15:39, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - I think there is a general consensus that we should keep the RTE, but I understand why it would be considered annoying to people that use the wiki code. Best way to deal with it is to fix any glaring errors you see, and hopefully somebody will fix the problems that the RTE has in the meantime. Request for closure - Good points, I guess i'll just have to suffer. Lol Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 00:57, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Closed - Unanimous opposition; original proposer withdrawn. The RTE will not be disabled at this time. Chicken7 >talk 02:24, May 22, 2010 (UTC)
