As some of you may have noticed, pages in the default Oasis skin are now fluid width: they increase/decrease with the width of your browser window. This is stage one of Wikia's Project Darwin, the first of several to be released of the the coming months. Note this is still in development, there may be bugs although currently they are relatively few.

Along with the more noticeable page width changes, you can now preview different page widths whilst editing. You can find a dropdown for the variable width in the top left of the preview popup which allows previewing for the minimum and maximum page widths as well as the width for your resolution. For admins, you now have access to Special:CSS, a new editing interface especially helpful for those a little unused to CSS. It may teach a few new things to the more seasoned coder too. This interface only applies when editing MediaWiki:Wikia.css, it may be rolled out further depending on feedback.

In normal releases of fluid layout, the font-size has been increased. This has been removed in the article sections due to the page width being more or less the same on the most common screen resolutions.

What is Darwin?
Darwin is an evolution of the default Oasis skin. Since it's introduction 2 years ago, Wikia has been gathering feedback on how to improve. Darwin is the result of that feedback. Note Darwin is not a new skin, merely a redesign of the current skin.
Why are we participating in Darwin?
Darwin is being rolled out across Wikia. This wiki has been volunteered to allow us to give as much feedback as possible. If you don't like something or think it could be improved you can give your feedback and potentially improve Darwin.
What else will come from Darwin?
Currently, Fluid layout and Special:CSS are the only released components of Darwin. Another part is the new VisualEditor, which you can read about here. The other stages will be announced here as they are released.

Your feedback is the most important part of testing Darwin. Without it bugs will go unnoticed, features will be overlooked and ideas will be missed. You can leave your comments below or in the dedicated Darwin forums on Community Central Wiki. cqm 22:48, 25 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

I don't like the bigger text in some places. :c MolMan 17:04, October 26, 2013 (UTC)

Such as? cqm 18:49, 26 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
Pretty much everywhere it's changed. I don't like change :c. But most annoying is the "Recent Activity" side bar. Not only is it changed (which is terrible; I hate change), but the "edited by..." part seems inappropriately large. It's especially bad when an anonymous user makes an edit and the "20 seconds ago" has to wrap to the next line. It was better off the original font size. Also, I can't tell if it's a different font, or just a different size, but the "PAGES ON THIS WIKI", "FILES ON THIS WIKI", and "EDITS SINCE JOINING THIS WIKI" (including the numbers that precede them) are all... just bad. They don't fit the rest of the text we can see. Previewing is pretty messed up too some times, but since that font screw up (it's mainly letter spacing) is different from the font on the saved page, I guess it's just a glitch (?). MolMan 18:57, October 26, 2013 (UTC)
I've noticed the letter spacing. It's not something you can see on wikis with the expected larger font, more a side-effect of reducing the font size. cqm 20:46, 26 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
It seems to me like recently the Tales of Content have started taking up more space, is that related to this? IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 12:49, October 27, 2013 (UTC)
The TOC changes were released within the last week iirc. I'd suggest comparing similar pages to be sure though, such as us and 2007scape wiki. cqm 19:04, 27 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
Hmmm, the ToC changes also caused things like this... (Due to the images in the headers). Didn't use to happen... IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 10:51, October 28, 2013 (UTC)
To be fair, you shouldn't use images in headers anyways... MolMan 11:19, October 28, 2013 (UTC)
That's a known bug caused by Wikia's last update. I image it'll be fixed relatively soon. cqm 14:35, 28 Oct 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
I have submitted a bug report to Wikia about it as well. Dragon dagger.png AmoVos 14:36, October 28, 2013 (UTC)
