Whenever I save images, I only get the choice of saving them as .gif or .bmp, neither of which is recommended for wiki images. The only way I know of to change them is to save them as gifs, open them in another program and then save as a different file type. Then delete the original. Then do it again, and again...please, for the love of pi, tell me there's a quicker way? Vimescarrot 07:44, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Save from what? - maybe there's an official/unofficial plugin, if it doesn't support them natively. Ace of Risk 16:16, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Saving images found on the internet. Right-click "save target as". Vimescarrot 16:20, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I get that all the time. Ok, open Imager and then open the file you wish to become a JPG/PNG/ whatever. Imager is in Start Menu/Programs or All Programs/Accessories. Then change the file type to PNG/JPG when saving. Easy as that. (It doesn't matter which file type you save the first picture off the internet as, because Imager can use both. I recommend GIF, though. :)Huanghe63talk 16:31, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Whatever Imager is, I don't have least, it's not where you said it would be if I do. Seriously, check here. Um...whatever it is, it still sounds like you have to do one at a time...? In which case I can do that using Paint. I wanted to know if there's a way to do it en mass... Vimescarrot 17:04, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh. ok. :)Huanghe63talk 17:47, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Bitmaps aren't a big issue, since it's simple for someone else to change it later (unlike JPEGs, which turn to pure crap after compression). Just like when you create an article and someone else edits it, you can create an image and have someone else change the file type for you. Hyenastetalk 18:28, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, let me ask, can you save gifs with a transparency, or no? Hyenastetalk 18:32, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Do what? Don't even know what that means, much less whether I can or not. How do I find out? Vimescarrot 18:43, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
If you'll answer what program are you using, I may be able to tell. Hyenastetalk 19:09, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Um. The only program I have to view and edit images is Paint...I could download another if I need to, as long as it's free. Vimescarrot 19:12, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Nope, can't do transparencies. :( But yeah, bitmaps will be okay since I can save it, convert it to png, upload it, and delete the old bmp in a span of a few seconds. Hyenastetalk 19:21, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
So...Save as bmp and upload, and let someone else do the work of changing it to png. Ok, fine by me :) Vimescarrot 19:26, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Photofiltre - there may be a few that are better, but this is ultimate no-crap freeware (can't actually remember if it does PNG) - There is a screen capture plugin as well. I really must get the latest version and re-install, as I had it on my old machine (Win98), never got round to putting on this one, as it had an application included. Ace of Risk 22:03, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Huh? Why not use paint? Can't you save .PNG with paint? It's all I use.-- 23:35, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Only in the newest versions of paint. Hyenastetalk 00:19, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't know about newest, I've always been able to save PNG with the Paint I got with Windows ME...But I think you misunderstand what I'm asking. Yes, I can use Paint to convert images to PNG, but I have to do it one by one. I'm asking if there's some way to do it en mass, to a lot of pictures all at once. Not that it matters all that much, i've decided to pull my finger out, stop being such a lazy arse and do them all one by one anyway :p Vimescarrot 07:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Irfanview - that is popular for batch conversion, I believe.Ace of Risk 12:10, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I think only the Windows that came out after Win 2k (I have it) has the ability to save PNG. I can't, so I use the Imager to convert to JPG. I wonder if Microsoft will ever let Win 2k save PNG... Huanghe63talk 16:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
