Comment - Looks like Wonderfl and I reached a middle ground of keeping the improvements from their changes, but also going back to being automatically generated tables, although this time around a few tables for each 'type' of achievement instead of one massive one. So if anyone has anything else they wanna add, please do so, otherwise I'd like someone else of my fellow admins to close this. One additional idea I got is to also do this for completionist cape (t) and master quest cape as well instead of only doing this on completionist cape. 13:05, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Comment - I was looking through the contents of the sections that Wonderfl made and while I generally agree that most are categorised correctly, some of the achievements are open to interpretation I guess. As there are some miniquests that are listed in the first section that I would consider to belong more to the Quests section. And the Prifddinas ones in Skills could also be considered Exploration. Is there a neutral way to do this? 11:59, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Forums: Yew Grove > Completionist cape requirement organisation

I was just updating pages that needed updating because of the release of Desperate Measures and I noticed Wonderfl had changed how the requirements are organised on the completionist cape page. But instead of reverting it I wanted to know your opinion of it.

Previously vs currently.

Plus points:

  • Looks cool
  • Organised by category type of gameplay

Minus points:

  • Is no longer updated automatically to include new requirements and/or exclude removed requirements
  • Is no longer updated automatically to show the current achievement description
  • Makes it inconsistent with completionist cape (t) and master quest cape

Options:

  1. Leave as it is now and don't make the other page consistent
  2. Leave as it is now and change the trimmed comp and MQC page to match this style
  3. Revert back to the automatically generated list of achievements
  4. Merge both styles: keep the automated table with the categorisation of the new version and also do this for MQC and trimmed

Discussion[edit source]

3 - I prefer the old way as it is less maintenance, but I do like the new look. Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 18:27, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

4 - Merge both as described in my reply below. :) Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 00:35, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Comment - It's also worth noting that without the DPL, it loads significantly faster. Talk-to Kelsey 23:40, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

3 - I do like the new icons, but I also like automation, is there a way to add the icons to it, or combine it in some way? Karu (talk) 23:41, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

    • hmm. So like, add categories in the old format, Skills, Combat, Quests, etc. When we click the sorting arrows, it will somewhat sort them.
The achievement icon for each achievement could be added to the automated table, but categorising it like it is now and adding those icons that are currently on the page might convolute the individual achievement pages a little too much since the phrase category is already used and the achievements do not use those icons in-game nor are they categorised as such in-game either. While it does make sense to split them up this way, the game itself doesn't do that. But now I think about it, we could call it type (or something else that isn't category) and add that to the "cape" achievements so you could sort them by type as well as add individual icons per type, so almost like it is now, but without individual icons within a type of achievement. To avoid cluttering the achievement pages themselves we could add args to the templates that don't get written to the page and are only used on these aggregate pages. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 07:53, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
Agreed, but I kinda meant in the code, but I guess adding one more parameter wouldn't hurt. Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 07:58, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

4 - I would say we could upgrade the Achievements table template to support the following:

  • Addition of icons per requirement
  • Addition of tags like Skill, Category, Minigame, Area
  • Ability to display additional columns for the above
  • Ability to filter out and display reqs only from a certain Category

This would then allow us to keep the categorized system while maintaining the benefits of the automated table. We would then use this generated list multiple times on the page, once under each category. I wouldn't mind doing the menial work of tagging each achievement with a category and icon if required. Wonderfl (talk) 02:22, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Each achievement already has an icon, we can add those to the table in addition to an icon for the achievement's type/tag. Unless you want to give another individual icon to them? So if we give each "cape" achievement a type/tag, we could also give that type a wiki category so we could split it like it is now instead of changing it back to a big table. The phrase category is already used to I wouldn't use that. :P We won't have to add the type visually to the achievements table template since it'll be split per those types. :) Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 07:58, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
Yes, it would be nice to add an individual icon to each "cape" achievement. I checked and most of the achievements simply have the blue star icon. So I added an individual icon to give more variety and to make it easier to understand. Wonderfl (talk) 11:44, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
So if I understand correctly, you'd like to have an individual icon for each "cape" achievement instead of having an icon per type? Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 13:41, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
Yes Salix, something like this:
Icon Achievement Description
Safety gloves.png Stay Safe Fully complete the Stronghold of Player Safety.
Fighting boots.png Stay Secure Fully complete the Stronghold of Security.
Ice nihil icon.png Annihilator Earn 'the Annihilator' title by fighting all four nihil at once.
TokHaar-Kal-Ket.png Kiln Fighter Complete the Fight Kiln.
First dragonkin journal.png Long Live the Queen Defeat the Queen Black Dragon and obtain the first dragonkin journal.
Tuska mask.png Bipedal Mask Construct a Tuska mask. Players must be on a Slayer task in order for airuts to drop the mask pieces.
Wonderfl (talk) 04:26, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
That looks good. :) Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 13:05, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Comment - I like the look of it categorized, and I think it makes it easier to use, but I do think it still should be auto-generated. Seers headband 2 chathead.png Elessar2 (talk) 07:53, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Seems like you like option 4. ;) Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 07:58, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
