As seen on Category:Competitions, we have a few competitions. Per RS:GRAN, competitions that occur that are in some relation to RuneScape are notable enough to have their own article. I'm opening a discussion as to our guidelines/style guide for competitions.

I suggest:

• Competitions are notable enough for their own article if they either:
  • Require you to perform an action in-game (see Golden Path Challenge and Skybox Screenshot Competition)
  • Result in a unique in-game reward (see Jagex Clan Cup)
• The page should include the following templates:
  • {{Infobox competition}} at the top
  • {{Community events}} at the bottom - the competition should also be added to this template
• The page should describe:
  • Who is running the competition (specific mod name should be included if there is one, such as Mod Shauny for Skybox Screenshot Competition)
  • The opening date and closing date (if known)
  • How to enter
  • What the prizes are
  • Who the winners were. Notable enough to include under RS:PLAYERS, and editors should follow that policy when adding names.
    • The winning 'piece' should be included too if applicable, such as the winning video for a video competition

It is fairly straight forward and I'm fine with writing the style guide for this, I just wanted to see if anyone had any objections or changes they wished to make before I did so.

Comment - This rules out a lot of competitions that require creative input, but no action in-game. Think chaos giants, the Imcando pickaxe (debatable since it was not a real competition), Ikadia, Menaphos Grand Library and pub, [[Armies of Gielinor Story Competition]] and various competitions that ended in a guaranteed content poll, such as aquanites, The Poison Arrow stuff, Sera and the Thalassus. And that's just off the top of my head. What's the stance on those? Do we give all of them separate articles, or just list them on a broader article? User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 19:00, May 24, 2017 (UTC)

Competitions that result in the addition of new content to the game in my opinion should not have their own article, instead there should be a sub-section on the content's article in question regarding the competition itself and the addition of Category:Competitions to the article. Under the proposal I've outlined, the [[Armies of Gielinor Story Competition]] article would not be suitable and shouldn't exist. However, it could exist if we agreed that the prize of lifetime RuneScape membership is 'unique'. Thoughts on that? jayden 19:20, May 24, 2017 (UTC)

I mean I don't see why we couldn't have a separate article, I just thought it would be better as a sub-section. Similar to the splitting of item pages that happened last year(?), we could have an article for the content competitions per RS:G. jayden 19:32, May 24, 2017 (UTC)

Proposal - To add to the original proposal; let's say that a competition (taking the term broadly) is notable if and only if:

• It is organised by Jagex (the exception might be A New Mystery)
• It is directly related to RuneScape (the exception might be [[Armies of Gielinor Story Competition]], which is related only narratively)
• The reward or outcome is visible in-game (this would include non-specific rewards or content, such as Mod Tale, or Castle Wars, where the winning country got a wallpaper)

Then;

• Annual competitions get their own article; Triumvirate, Clan Cup, Machinima Contests, ...
• Design-game-content competitions are all listed on one large article; Aquanites, Ikadia & chaos giants (sorry Ryan, leader of RuneWiki), Thalassus, Menaphos pub and library, ...
• RuneLabs already has its own article
• Miscellaneous events should also be listed in bulk; Mod Tale, Skilling Ladder, International Castle Wars
  • Exceptions would be events with a lot of information, e.g. Golden Path

Stuff like "like us on facebook to win a laptop", "retweet to win a bond", the skybox competition or the quest screenshot competition should not get their own articles or be mentioned anywhere. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 07:24, May 28, 2017 (UTC)
