I think we should close down the fc. Very few people are in it anymore; it's moribund at best and a wasteland of despair at worst. Today two gold site spammers joined that chat and we had to pull a rank from the cc to kick them. Admittedly that's not a big deal, but since nothing's going on in the fc it's more trouble than the chat itself is worth.

People do occasionally trickle in there not knowing about the cc. So while helping people who know about the fc but not the cc is some small reason to keep the fc active, I think it's not enough to keep it open. As another possiblity, if we keep it open, I suggest that we encourage more ranks to idle in the fc or appoint fc-only ranks simply to keep order.

Discussion

Support - As having done some of those kicks the previous night, all the chat channel was a single individual using at least four bot accounts. These accounts would spam about 15 lines every eight to ten seconds. There is generally five or less individuals in this chat at a time with most of them also being in the CC as well. The friends chat has served its purpose as we have transitioned to the clan chat. Ryan PM 06:25, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Well, I haven't been in the FC much, but when I have I was the only one who bothered talking or even the only one in there whatsoever. I say we get rid of it and move on. --Touhou FTW 01:48, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

No. Not yet, at any rate. You're still hired until this thread closes. --LiquidTalk 21:48, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

Sad - Too bad that the friend chat is too deserted for me to participate in and Jagex will not allow me to become a member of the clan chat. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 18:09, September 1, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - I really have no idea how to take this. I see no reason why we need to do anything to change it. Why not just keep it open? I've barely seen any spammers in there, because tbh, there are much better fc's for people to spam. Just leave it open to rot. No Harm and No Gain. Support - While I would have loved to see the chat revived, it is quite blatant that all interest and nearly all awareness of it has ceased, and that combined with the fact that the CC is an infinately more flexible and efficient system would deem keeping a redundant chat open for no deserving purpose a very foolish thing to do. As we seem to be saying to our features rather too much these days, buhbai. Sniff Ronan Talk 22:14, September 1, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - The main purpose of leaving it open (at least in my mind), was always about redirecting people to the clan chat. This has been mostly done, and although we still get the occasional "where'd everyone go?" line, it's generally not super active people that it will bother if they can't find us. I never saw it as a place for non-ranks to be in. As far as I see it, if ranks only want to sit and redirect people that should be fine to leave it open. But we shouldn't have unranked people who are also in the clan chat in there. Or basically it should be at your own risk, because of the potential for unkicked spammers (let me remind you, there is always the ability to ignore them, and then you can still redirect people to the clan chat). Support - I'll miss being owner, but it was always a terrible idea to have two chats. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 13:21, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

The idea (at least in my mind) was never about having two chats. I could have told you it was crazy from the beginning as someone who played a lot. I always saw it with the purpose of redirecting. HaloTalk 19:27, September 2, 2011 (UTC)
Would there be a practical way to change the title/name of the chat to something that could act as a redirect? --Henneyj 03:57, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

Support if you count the IRC we already have two chats, FC would be number three. The few people looking for where everyone is at will more than likely end up on the wikia to find out what the name is and can be redirected there. Comment- Instead of closing it completly, leave it as it is. The only difference being have two or three Autotalkers (just in case computers go off, muted from a mod popping in, etc.) and it saying, "Please go to the Clan Chat 'RSW'." "'RSW' is the official clan For the Runescape Wikia" etc.. That way more people know what clan to go to if the pop in the R S Wikia FC and are completly alone forever. That just sounds like we should use bots. Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 23:25, September 5, 2011 (UTC)

  • Support, now that there is clan chat we don't need friends anymore. Besides, friends is meant for... well... friends... ajr 02:22, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - Call me a nostalgia buff, but I quite like the RSW friends chat. It has not fallen into complete disrepair since the release of the clan chat. It is still a nice place for people to sit and talk. It's not used very much, but it's nice to have the opportunity to chat with people. It's not being that much of a hindrance; I say we just leave it. --LiquidTalk 03:31, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

Well there's a difference between completely closing it and leaving it open but dropping it as an 'official' chat, or deciding not to keep it moderated. Would the latter sit with you or do you feel it should be left as it is? --Henneyj 20:17, September 6, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Why is the ET using Gaz's FC this weekend? If people want the FC to become more like how it was before (with a decent amount of people), use R S Wikia instead. It's a start at least, and people may decide to hang around there after the ET finishes up. Real Nub 20:02, September 7, 2011 (UTC)

There have already been several spammers I've had to ignore. Unless you plan to get C Teng to play for over 6 hours each day, and idle in IRC for much of the time that he isn't, dealing with them effectively isn't going to happen. In addition we'll be using our own FCs for all future events (instead of "rsw events") - giving us the control we need, when we need it. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 20:15, September 7, 2011 (UTC)
Can't we kick the spammers anyways? We still have our ranks right? Santa hat.png Powers38 おはようヾ(´・ω・`) 06:52, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, we all can still kick in the cc, so I see no reason not to use the fc for this weekend. That's a fantastic idea Real! Firemaking cape.pngQwert Yuiop8 talk Firemaking-icon.png 22:59, September 8, 2011 (UTC) P.S. I miss you :(

Closed - The friends chat "R S Wikia" will no longer be an official wiki-sanctioned chat. Nostalgic people are free to stay and chat within it. 222 talk 12:06, September 18, 2011 (UTC)
