Hey everyone, we're currently concluding our latest kick sweep here of some of the inactive members that represent nearly half of all the players in the clan right now. While the clan has been plodding along quite happily in this situation for some time now, I'd like to see us gaining some more active members. Our spot on the clan highscores is largely retained through us avoiding kicking players with large amounts of clan XP who been inactive for a long time. At times the clan chat is dead; it's noticeable that we're lacking in members who are online and chatting. I have a couple of suggestions on how to recruit new people, and am open to more ideas :)

  • Have a pinned message in the #welcome channel on Discord advertising the clan.
  • Link to the clan in the wiki welcome message.
  • Have a section about the clan on the mainpage (like Discord and Twitter)
  • Reward people for recruiting; an extra entry in the clan raffle or straight up gp reward for each recruitment by a clan member. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelJTalk page 23:07, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Discussion

Support - I have some reservations about the last point, but if it's feasible then yes to all. cqm talk 10:17, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Support all but the last point - There should be no rewards for recruitment.svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 15:29, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Support all but the last point - per Ty jayden 15:39, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Support all except last - Could be prone to abuse, and I think there's no issue with recruiting people right now - it's hard to get people to move clans, and there are less and less players who aren't in any clan at all. Support all but last - Support on more advertisement about the clan chat, but I doubt if we are really desperate to reward others for recruiting. -TIMMMO (talk) 16:10, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Support all points except the last - If you need incentives to recruit your friends to join a well established clan then you're not really a suitable player I feel, also agreed with the abuse sentiments. Clue Scrolls | Tumeken (talk) 22:23, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Comment - Why shouldn't there be rewards for recruitment? It is very important for the clan's future that we have an active user base - having half of the clan members inactive is not sustainable in the long term. We've had the first 3 options in the past and none of them have made a particularly great impact on the number of active players that we have in the clan. We need to do something more than this. I think it's possible to offer a reward - say 1m gp or 1 extra raffle entry - for recruiting a new member. Since the invite message says who has invited a new recruit to the clan a screenshot of this can be used to verify that someone wanting to claim the reward has actually invited the new member. If someone really wanted to go out of their way to abuse the reward, e.g. by creating a lot of new accounts and inviting them and those accounts not being played after, we could always demote them to recruit or remove them from the clan. Having this sort of system might also work to encourage people to join in the first place; given that we are a social clan aiming more towards lower level players and that there are many other clans that these players could join, having a system where clan members can earn some gp by doing something to benefit the clan might be an extra reason to join our clan and not one of the many others out there. I don’t really have an opinion yet on rewards for recruiting but from experience we’ve more or less been sitting at half the clan being inactive by the definition used for kicklist (no xp in the last month). If we define active to be actually gains meaningful xp and contributes to the CC with conversation then therethininknkkk’s only 50-100 active members at any time. I’m not saying that this is good by any means, but I wouldn’t really say that our current state is unsustainable in the long term since we’ve been doing this for over five years now and the clan is about the same as always. --LiquidTalk 04:18, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
Actually, looking back over the last 3 years of kicklists this is the highest number of inactive people we've had in a kicklist. It's kindof hard to compare without knowing the total number of players who were in the clan at the time, and with the varying amounts of time between inactivity kicks but still. As I've said, there's times when the chat is completely silent for long periods of time and that is off-putting even to someone like me who has a strong association with the clan and wiki. How are we going to attract new people when this is the situation (that is potentially getting worse with more and more inactive members)?. People might not like the idea of rewarding recruitment but I think we need to do something to increase our active clan members. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelJTalk page 21:23, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
I strongly oppose rewards for recruiting since I know admins will be exempt from it, plus it is open for abuse from users recruiting alts to get the dolla bills. svco4bY.png3Gf5N2F.png 03:52, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
I oppose in part because it feels in part like an MLM. It's not exactly the same, but it does give me the same weird feeling. -- F-Lambda (talk) 21:43, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Support first three points, Oppose point 4 - If option 4 is chosen, though, it should be limited to raffle entries -- F-Lambda (talk) 21:43, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Support all, especially last - money is nice (fwiw I've never been in wiki clan and don't plan on being in it) cUYuYGL.png Shockstorm 22:57, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Support all, last may need tweaking - Honestly, I agree with the people who are saying that there's a danger of abuse with the incentives. Perhaps we can treat it like capping, you recruit N number of people, and then you stop getting rewarded for it, or the rewards change. Some kind of diminishing returns system might help reduce the possibility of people grinding out recruitments just for the sake of getting rewards. Arkevorkhat (talk) 19:04, 24 December 2018 (UTC)

Support 1-3, comment on 4 - 4 will be abused, if your smart about it. I do not really support 4, unless, if the member they recruited has stayed for X months and contributed to clan citadel (just examples). Other than that, in my old clan I got a list of inactive members and we did a massive 300 sweep. They didn't talk nor show themselves, so I would like it to be cleaned out. This will show new players that it isn't a "dead" clan and will hopefully keep retention rate up. Support first three - Everything's already been said. Option 4 can be abused, is kind of a hassle and isn't really need or effective anyway. Superiosity the WikianQuick chat button.png : Yo 23:09, 27 December 2018 (UTC)

Closed - there is consensus to promote the clan with a pinned message in the #welcome channel on Discord, a link in the welcome message and a section on the mainpage. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelJTalk page 20:15, 2 January 2019 (UTC)
