See: Forum:Chatbox images policy

I'd like to gauge whether or not it would be worth keeping some, all, none, etc. of chatbox images. Most can be represented by text on the page, however sometimes it could add more to the article as does an equipment image. Currently there is no mention whatsoever about keeping or deleting chatbox images in either RuneScape:Deletion policy and RuneScape:Images and media policy. This must change.

Keep some - Ryan PM 16:41, February 25, 2013 (UTC)

Keep none - And use more descriptive deletion entries of current in use images rather than "Unnecessary image" and amend the deletion policy. Ryan PM 16:57, February 25, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - This came about over the deletion of this image. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 16:43, February 25, 2013 (UTC)

Comment again - This thread will not help with anything unless we sit down and clearly define what is worth keeping and what isn't. This is basically an exact copy of the last thread, which was closed as using common sense to determine what's worth keeping. If we're no longer capable of this, we have to make strict guidelines on it. "Keeping some" is not going to help anyone. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 16:53, February 25, 2013 (UTC)
Uploaded the image to imgur as not everyone can see it (it said something about no longer available). cqm 17:29, 25 Feb 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

Support Common sense - Looking through Category:Chatbox images, many of them could quite easily be deleted an represented by text. Melzar's notes was once a somewhat ridiculous series of strung together chatboxes, which, whilst a little bland was better represented as text - the image was small and difficult to read. However, we still have images such as :File:Bankers.png, shown right, that I do not think pure text can do justice. Level 99 chatbox images could be described as superfluous, but I think it's a nice touch. We want the articles to be read, and a giant text wall is neither inviting or interesting. To define guidelines is not going to work without defining what is, and what isn't, image-worthy and frankly what is that is somewhat subjective. I thought an image of the chatbox message when a Champion scroll drops was image worthy, User:Hofmic disagreed and the message can now be found in the trivia of the article.

We trust our administrators with the ability to delete images, but we do not trust them to have common sense or to be able to explain their actions if there is someone who questions them? None of us are beyond reproach but a little trust does not go amiss every now and then. cqm 17:29, 25 Feb 2013 (UTC) (UTC)

Bankers.png is practically a bunch of duplicate chatheads. MolMan 19:40, February 25, 2013 (UTC)
Lol at that file on Crandor. MolMan 01:19, February 26, 2013 (UTC)

Oppose this one thing - While not exactly chatbox images (for which I currently am having trouble in defining my exact opinion), I vehemently oppose the related genre of game chat images such as this one. For those of you who can't see it, the images was basically this in png format:

Other player declined trade!

Support - RS:UCS, of course, but seriously, some of these really aren't needed. Per Cåm. Blaze_fire.png12.png 08:36, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - If anyone had bothered to read, you would notice that using common sense clearly doesn't work anymore. Come up with a better idea please. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 21:59, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

I'm thinking only the fundamentals. Like, an image that shows certain chatbox interfaces as an example, but nothing that's along the lines of "HERP DERP, he said this!". MolMan 22:02, March 6, 2013 (UTC)
So in other words, one image of what the chatbox looks like, and delete the rest? sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 22:04, March 6, 2013 (UTC)
Something like "Simple chatbox images are better represented as text rather than an image". Keeps the UCS factor for defining simple and it's now a tangible policy we can send people to. cqm 00:01, 7 Mar 2013 (UTC) (UTC)
But, can you come up with an example where we would keep a chatbox using that logic? sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 02:31, March 7, 2013 (UTC)
I'm not sure what we'll extend this to, but the images on right click came to mind. MolMan 02:34, March 7, 2013 (UTC)
Well as far as I can see the options are:
 • File:Sigmund hand cutoff.png - moved to a more appropriate category, inline with other similar quest images.
 • File:Sithik portrait bar.png - transcripted onto the page, which was probably missed due to it not being considered part of :Category:Texts and Tomes.
 • :File:Worlds-offline-1hr-maintenance.png - Added into the page as trivia or under the relevant header in the body of the article.
 • Keep one as an example of a chatbox.
Overall, this reduces the need to constantly update chatbox images, when chatheads or the chaboxes are graphically updated. The only chatbox image I would be inclined to keep is :File:Paulchat.png as a demonstration of the lack of Mod prefix.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cåm (talk).

Comment - Literally every file that is simply RuneScape font can be done with Template:RSFont. I was unable to find any other template that did such a thing and made it. Whatevs. MolMan 21:02, March 16, 2013 (UTC)

Okay - Support deleting all chatbox images and chatbox text images. Keep one only for educational purposes on interfaces. The rest can go, they are seriously not needed. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 02:30, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - keep a few examples, delete the rest. They're unnecessary, in my opinion. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 02:58, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

Comment - A few of them are useful, like the one that shows how a fairy in zanaris was never updated, chathead-wise.  Remove most of the useless ones, though.  Abyssal whip.png Secondchance975 Coins 250.png 17:05, April 2, 2013 (UTC)

No it's not, we could just use an actual chat head image. MolMan 18:44, April 2, 2013 (UTC)
That's your opinion, I think it should stay.  Abyssal whip.png Secondchance975 Coins 250.png 17:03, April 3, 2013 (UTC)
Opinion? It is rather objective that a chathead by itself is more accurate. It can be explained in text if it matters that the model is old (which it really doesn't). MolMan 18:37, April 3, 2013 (UTC)
If an image can easily be explained with text and the image does not compliment the article in any way, then it's not necessary (basics of the image rules). sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 13:33, April 4, 2013 (UTC)

Closed - All Chatbox images will be deleted, with a few RS:UCS exceptions. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 19:07, April 8, 2013 (UTC)
