Forum:Block IP Editing
I think we should block IP editing. A very large portion of edits made by IP's (around 80%) are vandalism and every single vandal I have seen on the CVU has been an IP address. Also, checking the block log, the first page I saw had only two accounts and about 40 IP addresses. I know the wiki says anyone can edit, but this is getting stupid now.

Support - As starter of this thread. 00:21, 19 May 2009 (UTC) Oppose It goes against the whole spirit of the wiki Atlandy 00:22, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - I know there are a lot that vandals, but like atlandy said, it goes against the spirit of the wiki. Anyone can edit wikipedia. They probably face vandalism everyday and at a larger number than us. We seem to have a good number of editors facing vandalism. Powers38 おはようヾ(´･ω･｀) 00:25, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Oppose Must be that time of year again, we get this proposal time and again, and I hope like hell it never passes. Yes, while most vandals do not create accounts, there are LOTS of good I.P. editors out there. Maybe at times it seems like 80% are vandals but I assure you, you did not look at any stats what so ever to come up with that number. Do some research before you make a claim man. There are countless times I check the edits of 5 6 or 7 IP addresses, to find all of them GOOD. So no, we shouldn't change the wiki because of a few tools with nothing better to do atm.--Degenret01 00:34, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - Many IPs actually have great contributions to the wiki. It just seems that IPs vandalize a lot because why go through the effort to make an account to vandalize when you can just vandalize without signing up? Also, some people think that editing as an IP makes them less noticeable (I'd rather vandalize the wiki as an IP than as a registered user, I admit :P).00:40, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - That just takes away from the whole point of a wikia, that anyone can edit. Look at the top of your browser, The RuneScape Fansite that anyone can edit! Seem familiar? Sure, I notice it too, many vandals are in fact IPs, but, how is preventing IPs from editing going to stop anything, when they can make an account in less than a few minutes?
Also, I have seem many good edits by IPs also, and I saw someone encouraged these IPs to form an account to remain more anonymous in their editing. That goes to show that not all IP addresses are here to vandalize us. ~MuzTalk 00:44, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - Per Atlandy --01:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - Many IP editors make good contributions and the ones who vandalize are dealt with rather easily.01:49, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Comment - You can't do that anyways, even if we wanted. Violates the purpose of Wikia, and it's a violation of their rules.

Honestly the biggest oppose ever - Lvl 3, I am disappointed at this. If we were to get rid of I.P editing, it would go against the whole spirit of the wikia. If an I.P edits once, comes back a little later and discovers there blocked, do you really think they're going to create an account? --Supirion1 05:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Edit conflict - About to say the same thing. 07:29, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
I would like to apologise to everyone about this extreme outburst. I thought at the time that it would be one of the most effective ways to conflict vandalism. However, after reading everyone's comments, I now realise how wrong I was and how I almost broke every rule in the book.
- To Degenret01 - I agree with you completely now, it seems like 80% of IP's are vandals some of the time, but I realise it was wrong.
- To everyone else - I realise this was a stupid idea and I hope the communtity forgives. Block me if you think I deserve it, but please, I pray you forgive me.
Thanks and sorry to everyone again. 07:39, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
