'ello. Just quick message (that I should've posted earlier...) about conversion of beta articles to mainspace articles. I strongly recommend against simply copy-pasting the beta article onto the mainspace article or something like that, because, since the creation of beta articles, edits have been made to the mainspace articles that weren't made in the beta version. This could be images, cleanups, extra information, you name it.

I think we should very carefully select what to do. First of all, infoboxes and stats etc. can be directly copied to and DII's and inventory images etc. can be merged with the mainspace articles, but for the main body of the article, I think we should keep the mainspace version. That should really be at the discretion of the mover. Certain articles have been rewritten to reflect the changes that are brought with EoC, in which case the entire article should be moved. I know that I, myself, have already done some uniforming of beta namespace articles in preparation for this move. MolMan 18:09, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - Cook has stated that he does not want any information left behind. Moving the templates was what I originally thought of a while ago, and I think it's still right we do this. The other information really isn't that much and we can always get it later. Build onto this pseudocode:

for each page in the Beta namespace:
consider the main-namespace version of the page to be Main and the beta-specific version to be Beta
if Beta was not modified by a human:
speedy delete Beta, and nothing else
if Main is a redirect to Beta: // like this
move Beta to Main over redirect
if Main was not modified by a human:
copy-paste Beta to Main or merge histories (admins)
if Main is about an item having equipment stats:
copy the Infobox Bonuses Beta from Beta to Main
if Main contains {{Beta}} or [[:Category:Beta|Category:Beta]]:
    delete instances from Main
if Beta was about a beta-specific thing:
place the {{Gone}} template at the top of Main
replace references to 'accuracy' in Main to 'hit chance'
remove 'Beta:' from links on Main
edit references to single-combat, which doesn't exist anymore in the EoC, in Main
  // TODO More code here

when links to Infobox Bonuses have been emptied:
move Template:Infobox Bonuses Beta to Template:Infobox Bonuses and fix references

for each file:
if the name of the file ends with (beta).png:
consider the beta-specific page that refers to it to be Beta and the main-namespace version of Beta to be Main
load Main in a browser tab
if Main looks like it refers to the beta image:
an admin may have merged histories from (beta).png to regular.png
either ask an admin to merge histories from (beta).png to regular.png, or make the page point to (beta).png
remove 'Beta:' from the license template on the file's description page
  // TODO More code here

Any more popular page (like godswords) should be checked to see if more than just the infoboxes were changed and what the major difference is and whether or not the beta version of the article is better. On that matter, the main body of an article were to be changed in the beta namespace, it was for the better and is more than likely a more accurate version. In fact, a large number of Beta: namespace articles have had the necessary info removed/changed in preparation for the EoC. I honestly see no reason to keep the body of the mainspace article; there weren't too many eye-catching rewrites. MolMan 20:54, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

It's not just popular articles that have been changed, you see. A rather stupid, but still functional example would be Icefiend and [[Beta:Icefiend]]. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 06:54, November 20, 2012 (UTC)

I agree with Fswe1. The mainspace articles contain much more information. Of course some aspects of that information will become worthless, but it's always easier and safer to delete the out-of-date sentences/paragraphs than to risk losing all the stuff that should remain unchanged. Many beta articles are just bare shells with only bonuses infobox filled in. The idea of changing infoboxes, then working on mainspace articles' bodies seems better. 5-x Talk 22:07, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

Can you give an actual example? For the most part, beta articles were copied verbatim from the mainspace counterparts. There's practically no example of articles that have more information in the mainspace mainly because if info was removed, it was meant to be removed. MolMan 01:04, November 20, 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps they're referring to the fact that people make edits to the mainspace articles and not beta articles. If we were to copy everything from beta to mainspace, we'd lose all of those new edits to the mainspace article. sssSp7p.pngIjLCqFF.png 13:30, November 20, 2012 (UTC)
As of currently, there is a bug where {{beta}} is not displaying properly on some pages, causing new users and anons to edit the beta articles instead. One such example is Sagittarian chaps; I have found many more pages in the past 1 hour or so. --Alchez 13:36, November 20, 2012 (UTC)
^^That, what Fergs said. Helpful edits and potential images would be lost. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 14:49, November 20, 2012 (UTC)
That doesn't prove that we can't live with losing it. And @Alchez, the past hour (for when you posted) means absolutely nothing, as we've already started moving pages long before then meaning that the beta template was removed. O, it changed... Stupid cook. MolMan 15:15, November 20, 2012 (UTC)

Merge now (via bot), ask questions later. - If we only merge the infoboxes then info on the beta pages will be lost. If we merge the entire article then we can just get the info that the beta may lack from the page history. Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 08:59, November 21, 2012 (UTC)

This request for closure is complete A user has requested closure for Beta to Mainspace. Request complete. The reason given was: Dead

Closed - Because the merge of beta content into the main namespace is going smoothly even without this thread.
