I propose that we ban Melon (IGN Tennis Pool) from the friends and clan chat.

Since, well, forever, Melon has been a corrosive member of our chat. Pretty much every time he talks he is enormously coarse, venomously nasty and unfailingly unpleasant. He flirts with kicks on an almost daily basis due to spam, attacks or totally inappropriate remarks. Using ignore is sometimes a response to this kind of behavior, but it is sustained and widespread with Melon. There are no signs that it will ever let up, and we don't need to have someone like this in our chat.

While I've been able to abide this behaviour until now, today he crossed the line. He was asked to hold some items for another wikian until such time as they might be requested back. Melon took this opportunity to delete all wikians from his friends list, leave this wiki's clan chat and sell the items, declaring his intent to leave the wiki. While we should perhaps not respond as a wiki for actions outside the chat directed at one single member, I think this exemplifies the appalling disrespect he has for other people that he has shown again and again in the chat. It's enough.

I think it's time we rid our chat of this.

Discussion

Neutral - Sometimes he is like this, not all the time. He is a good guy gonna need more evidence before I can change. Twig Talk 772kZGs.png 06:10, May 6, 2011 (UTC)

Change to Full support - Okay looked more into it and learned more about the thing with Pharos and thats even low for him. Twig Talk 772kZGs.png 02:14, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

WaitWaitWait - Just to be absolutely clear, that last part is between me and him and there was little harm done in the end anyway. It should only be taken as an indication of disrespect, and not an act in itself. - [Pharos] 06:16, May 6, 2011 (UTC)

Indeed. I am not suggesting that action itself warrants the ban. Merely that it illustrates the profound contempt he has for the wiki (and people in general) which he repeatedly expresses. He wished to leave the wiki with this act—I propose we help that aim along. (wszx) 06:20, May 6, 2011 (UTC)

Strong Support - I won't lie to you guys: I DO NOT like, trust, or agree with Melon in any way, shape, or form. He recently flamed my fashion sense in-game (minor, but wearing a puffer hat and an Xmas scarf because I WANT to doesn't require "You wear the weirdest shit, Stinko") and rudely asked why I was "making a clan that would die within a week" (minor again, but still uncalled for). Along with these, his caustic personality and general attitude have made me resent talking to him. In fact the only time I AGREED with Melon on something is when he was defending himself against Bawble! Did I mention that whenever we start talking to each other, HE blames ME for "jumping down his throat"? He's got to go. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 15:03, May 6, 2011 (UTC)

Need screenshots - As I'm no longer playing, I've not seen any of what you're claiming. Unless you can give evidence of REGULAR trolling and flaming, I will not support this. Real Nub 18:23, May 6, 2011 (UTC)

Closure - Melon has made it clear he has no intentions of coming back here. It's for the best we avoid all the drama and just ban him now.   Swizz Talk   Events!   19:42, May 6, 2011 (UTC)

Support - Well, my opinion is pretty biased, but oh well. It states quite clearly that all rules of Runescape are to be followed in both FC and CC. Long story short, do we really want someone like that in our community? And as per above, while this is a new level of outrageous behaviour, he does generally act quite offensively and arrogantly. Given that he left, this is all irrelevant now, but oh well. Liquid bullied me into adding my 2gp. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 04:09, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - Aside from stealing Pharos's money, I really don't think melon has done anything too bad.Wicid13 04:25, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Neutral - My interactions with Melon have generally been positive. But then again, I haven't had many interactions with Melon. Matt (t) 04:42, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Neutral - Yes, he's trolled me quite excessively, but I've also had numerous positive interactions with him, so I'll be neutral in this case. However, I would like this dealt with expediently. Drawing it out will only lead to wikidrama. --LiquidTalk 14:56, May 7, 2011 (UTC)

Strong oppose I find melon no more abrasive and abusive then many other users on the chats, if we ban him we would have to ban several other people to make it fair and melon is kinda of cruel but he's pretty funny as well so i must oppose banning him--Turok Obama 02:17, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

Strong Oppose - I know Melon stole a clanmate's money, which shocked me just as much as any of you, but I find it extremely hypocritical of you to say these things of him, Harle. You're one of the worst Passive-Aggressive trolls I've ever had to deal with, and you haven't even been told off. In some instances you've even had some ranks (not going to name names) going along with your trolling. I think you need to straighten up yourself before you make such accusations against other users.--Cheers, Off-hand ascension crossbow.pngYodaAscension crossbow.png 21:05, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

And I think you need to learn what the wikipedia:tu quoque and wikipedia:ad hominem logical fallacies are. I know avoiding fallacies is something only adults consider when they discuss things, but maybe you could pretend. (wszx) 21:13, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
I find it funny that you need to resort to insulting him after he just called you a troll. ajr 21:15, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Trolling is not synonymous with insulting. (wszx) 21:17, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
But it sure as hell happens together a lot! Firemaking cape.pngQwert Yuiop8 talk Firemaking-icon.png 21:25, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
You're right, but I cannot imagine a comment like that being made for any reason other than trying to get the user upset, or bait him into a conversation which you so often do. Anyways, that's all from me... ajr 21:41, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Do you really need to resort to insulting Yoda's age because he made a logical fallacy? I mean it's not like everybody your age has taken a logic class... Wicid13 21:45, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
And by insulting Yoda there, you used the logical fallacy ad hominem in the same sentence that pointed out that he was using ad hominem... Wicid13 21:52, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Only kind of. My response did not rest on the purported insult—that was just extra. My point is that his argument is fallacious; any extraneous insults would be distinct from that. (wszx) 22:00, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Well you're correct about his argument being fallacious, but still there are no pictures of any trolling or other bad behavior that Melon has done, other than the incident with Pharos that was strictly a personal matter. Wicid13 22:09, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
RS:SAOW - Do not support or oppose a proposal based on who made it; support or oppose a proposal based on its own merits. --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 21:38, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Andorin, Melon has been nice and has always been a friend to me, and I Do want him to continue that way. I was just merely stating what I thought. Melon does deserve to stay, as he is usually no worse than many of the other people that frequent the cc.--Cheers, Off-hand ascension crossbow.pngYodaAscension crossbow.png 21:42, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
Then please use that sentiment to oppose the proposal instead of "Harle is a troll so his proposal is invalid." --Andorin (Talk) (Contribs) 21:55, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

Strong Oppose - Melon is, and always has been one of the most helpful wikians we have in the Clan Chat. I'm not here to say that he is never a troll. I have personally kicked him before. But, he does not deserve to be penned as "a corrosive member". I do not understand why people in the clan these days simply resort to making ban threads for users who help the community as a whole. We have some great admins/ranked users who know very well how to right click "Kick/ban Tennis Pool". In my honest opinion. There are many people worse then Melon laying around these days, no need to over react. Concerning the Pharos incident. We cannot take personal incidents into account for the behavior of someone in the cc. You cannot simply infer that a user has "appalling disrespect" for people as a whole. That is a problem to be settled between Pharos and Melon. Not the whole wiki community. He does not deserve the same fate as the likes of Bawble or Arin. Compare Melon to them, then rethink what you all are about to do.

Thank you, Firemaking cape.pngQwert Yuiop8 talk Firemaking-icon.png 21:38, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

Comment - Today, Melon informed me that he no longer has membership, so he won't play nearly as much. This coupled with the fact that he probably won't even go in the chat for a awhile after he starts playing again makes the ban mostly useless unless it's a non-deserved permanent ban. Wicid13 22:00, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

Change to Neutral - As per Wicid. He's gone, so it doesn't matter. It's over, so why worry about it? I say we should close this and move on. Now that's a throwing weapon!Doucher4000******r4000I'll eat you! 01:03, May 9, 2011 (UTC)

Part of the problem with that attitude is that people don't tend to retire for as long as they plan. Melon himself was going to scale back and quit members because of schoolwork at the beginning of the term, and yet here he is (or was). Qwert returned just today after retiring twice (by my count) in recent weeks. And not ten seconds ago I switched back to my RS screen to see that Lashazior is here once again after retiring on April 30. So while I'm not going to argue with anyone who disagrees with the merits of a ban, I do encourage you to consider that Melon is like as not going to return—if you think he deserves a ban then you should say so. (wszx) 01:13, May 9, 2011 (UTC)

What Doucher Did - Changing to Neutral - 'nuff said. 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 14:25, May 9, 2011 (UTC)

Oppose - Firstly, I'll say that there's no way in hell I'm supporting this, given that nobody has given any evidence of general disrespect towards the clan chat. Secondly, Melon is a heck of a lot better than some people I've previously seen in the chat. I personally never issued a kick (although Qwert has, apparently) and any memories of Melon being kicked are hazy, given the three-month time period I've been off of Runescape. Next, regarding the "stolen items" incident - it in no way involves the entire community, so using that as evidence for his "appalling disrespect [towards] other people" is frankly pathetic. Also, nobody has brought up any problems with Melon in a thread since Stinko's thread from about 10 months ago. That to me says that nobody has had an issue with Melon other than a minor argument in almost a year.

Oh, and he's quitting apparently, so blocking him is useless. This needs closure, it'll serve no purpose if it passes. Real Nub 16:00, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

Support - melonWatermelon slice.png 22:29, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

What? If this is a guilty plea, then I'll close it now... but otherwise, can you please explain yourself a bit more? Thanks. --LiquidTalk 22:32, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
No Comment - I support the ban. melonWatermelon slice.png 22:39, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
I've been neutral on it, but if you support it then I'll close this. If you don't want me to do so, tell me now. I'm closing this in a few minutes if I don't hear anything back. --LiquidTalk 22:42, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
Reminder - Don't forget my alts Beekeeper and Alksejtaksne. melonWatermelon slice.png 22:44, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

Closed - As the accused has supported his own ban thread, I will take it as an admission of guilt and a guilty plea. As such, he will be banned from the Clan Chat indefinitely, until the community determines otherwise. --LiquidTalk 22:46, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
