Resourceful aura

Hi, I'll be quick.

Basically we should make a new infobox for auras instead of the item infobox we're currently using. This was discussed previously but for some reason that thread's consensus isn't reflected in current aura articles. Regardless, thanks to the recent Aura management update I think its pretty clear that we should replace the current infoboxes (see edit below) since (most) auras are no longer items and that they actually contain info that's useful like duration, cooldown and price.

I'd be bold but I dunno how to make something like this so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Example of a potential infobox that I totally stole from the previous thread (ty terry). Will definitely have to be redone by someone who can do a better job

EDIT: So for reasons stated below (see my reply to Haidro) I've come to realise that we should not replace the item infoboxes as they still exist in game as items both in cache and the equipment screen. So my new proposal is this: we replace the equip/bonus templates on aura pages with a modified aura-specific version.

I've mocked up a kind of idea of how this would look using my godtier photoshop skillz. I understand there's a lot of redundant information, it's the best I can think of for now. (Honestly, this all getting a bit more complicated than I thought it was going to be.)

(Oops I forgot to put in numbers for the duration/cooldown but whatever).

Comment - what about the auras that still exist as items? Will they have both pages? Magic logs detail.pngIsobelJTalk page 10:58, January 23, 2018 (UTC)

I wasn't really sure when I made this proposal but now that I've thought about I think that item-only auras should stay as is. My reason being that non-interface auras are usually special case auras so my proposed infobox might be trickier to apply to them (Oddball aura has no duration/cooldown, Hellion aura and Desert pantheon aura have multiple effects, Daemonheim auras are mostly passive effects etc). I'm aware this reasoning doesn't really apply equally to all item-only auras (eg Illumination aura functions fairly standardly) but honestly it's the best I can think of. Of course, I'm open to suggestions that may be better. Superiosity the WikianQuick chat button.png : Sup 11:48, January 23, 2018 (UTC)
Addendum - Shauny has confirmed the Illumination aura is being moved to the interface so ignore my preivous statement regarding it. Superiosity the WikianQuick chat button.png : Sup 11:55, January 23, 2018 (UTC)

Oppose - The items still exist in the cache. Per RS:G, we should keep them with an infobox item template like we do now. When I first made the original thread we still hadn't really defined RS:G to the extent that it's at now, nor did we have the tools back then to see what items actually existed in RS's cache.

The only other suggestion I can make is that we have historical pages for the auras - but I'm neutral about it. We'd be having the same content between two pages, bar a couple of templates (eg, I don't imagine we'd have an equipment infobox on the new pages).

Also, the template (Template:Infobox Aura) did exist - we had only used it on some auras and not others (Honestly I think I'm to blame here... I got lazy). You make a good point that they're still cache items but I also didn't realize until recently that activating an aura from the interface actually equips it in the aura slot. I'll admit I've been mulling over my original proposal ever since you told me you were gonna oppose. I still stand by we should have a new template with aura-specific details but I will withdraw my original suggestion that these replace the current item infoboxes. I'll update my proposition above accordingly. Superiosity the WikianQuick chat button.png : Sup 23:00, January 23, 2018 (UTC)

Use additional infobox, don't replace Item or Bonuses - I think it remains important that every ingame item uses Infobox Item, and that every equipable item uses Infobox Bonuses. I support infobox-ifying as much of the information about auras as we can, though -- just make sure it occurs early on the page. (People have at times complained that we move too many things away from prose at the beginning of articles, into easily-missed tables/templates later on -- the prime example of this is recipes.)

If the auras fully stop being items, then we can revisit in a more general way. But for now I think we shouldn't carve out exceptions like this. ʞooɔ 23:30, January 26, 2018 (UTC)

Also for historical purposes: that thread you linked was superseded by Forum:Infobox Aura revisited. ʞooɔ 23:34, January 26, 2018 (UTC)
Do the auras that are now part of the aura management interface still exist as items? It seemed like they were made unobtainable in item form. Magic logs detail.pngIsobelJTalk page 17:31, January 27, 2018 (UTC)
When you activate an aura from the interface, it will appear equipped in your aura slot for the duration of its activation. Superiosity the WikianQuick chat button.png : Sup 21:01, January 27, 2018 (UTC)

Request closure - Despite a rather majority support, I'll withdraw my proposal(s) and request closure of this thread. I feel that if a general proposal is passed then it will instigate yet another thread on the specifics which will be a lot more discussion than I intended this to be. I agree with dro's points and, although cook's suggestion I think is most appropriate, that indicate to me we're better off not proposing anything at all. Personally, I think what I should've done from the start was just be bold and fix up the inconsistencies which pushed me to make this thread. Closed - Withdrawn by Superiosity. If anyone has a proposal for dealing with auras that they'd like to make, do so on another thread. jayden 22:16, January 27, 2018 (UTC)
